My dear friends......

I am in the position of watching the show every day, no matter what, since I do summaries. But I have done so since I first began watching the show way back. Rain or shine.....unless i was on vacation for a few days down in Chicago, I watched, no matter what. I have loved some stuff, hated other stuff, rolled my eyes, praised and complained, was in awe, was disappointed greatly. I have lived thru a lot of different writers, characters, changed personalities, detested storylines, wonderful ones.

But one thing I have NEVER done, is say I would stop watching because this or that happened, or did not happen, or that I did not approve of storyline.

I am a fan of Days, a viewer, a loyal one. Yep, I have gotten just as aggravated and annoyed as I have on nighttime prime time shows at times. It is why I volunteered to be part of the Early Edition for several years, and why I finally agreed to Wayne's months of pestering me, lol, to host this board.

In that capacity, I have tried to make this board a safe place, where one can not be bashed for opinions, where one does not run into unexpected cursing, where people can debate, agree to disagree, and all are friends. Where we can laugh, get jokes, do humorous threads, giggle, smile, join in, come back for more.

And yes, Days, just like other shows, has it's ups and downs. Tis amazing how one day can be the pits and the next is fantastic. And then we have Corday, owner of a business who has no idea how to run it. And we have NBC, not helping at all, with their puny payment to the show. Thus, we have the playing of musical chairs with the writers, as the inept Corday attempts to rectify.

Through it all, we have stayed. We have not jumped ship. Our site is not only here, but on Facebook as well, Though I am not on Twitter that much, we are there as well. (If I knew how to post as Salem Spectator, I would. But only Wayne knows that password)

It pains me to read those of you so loyal viewers who are professing to jump ship. You don't like a storyline, or the way a character is portrayed, or the coupling. And others feel the same way, but are sticking it out. Real life is not always happy, is it? People die, move far away, we lose jobs, witness family or friends' problems, have disappointments, failures, health issues, and yet we go on, don't we?

So why is it, that when these same things occur on Days, people are ready to call it quits? Already? Despite the news that new writers are coming aboard? Despite the fact that this is a soap staple?

So, you don't like Rafe/Hope. Folks did not like Daniel/Jen, did they? Or Eric/Serena? Or Kayla/Shane? Or Sami/EJ? Did you really like Nicole's father impregnating Jan Spears? Or Belle marrying Philip while Shawn married Mimi?

Hey, we all survived it, didn't we, as did the characters.

Folks, I love this board, and all of you. Just upset at the idea that some are thinking of deserting, because a story is not going the way one wants it to go. Yep, free will and all that.

I fully understand what you say. I think a lot of us, say things we don't really mean. I think you know I have watched since the beginning, except for when I worked prior to VCR. I have almost given up, a certain episode or story, but I'm still here. The only difference, is if I miss a day now, it isn't a disaster! I was so disappointed when you gave up Early Edition, but glad I found this.

I DVR the show due to work issues. I do love being able to fast forward through commercials. And I do also sometimes skip parts that bore me. But leave the show? Never. Angry at times? Yes. frustrated? HEAVENS, yes. But give this up? Not likely.

I can't thank you enough Poirot for all time taken to keep the board up and running and the summaries. I read them and watch the show later in the evening.

Thank you, thank you.

Wasn't me who gave up Early Edition, was my partners. And that is why this board came to be. Including the summaries. At the time, I could still get the feed to Canada a day ahead on my big dish. Alas, Days discontinued giving Canada the day ahead, so...thus we got "Today in Salem".

Anyone interested in a 6 ft. dish, with all indoor controls? LOL

Despite the news that new writers are coming aboard?
From past experience of waiting with bated breath for stories written by "new" writers, this isn't very encouraging. :)

Poirot, I get that you are and have been a loyal fan of the show, but I won't watch a show that bores me. I'm an old lady with multiple health problems, and there are many things I enjoy more than watching a boring show, no matter which one it is. Frankly, I am in the process of "winding down" (http://www.heraldanewday.com/Poems12/winding.html) and won't waste my time this way. I have stopped watching many shows that once had me on the edge of my seat, but that now don't do anything for me.

KathyLu..........I know and realize what you are going through. You and I go wayyyy back. I cannot tell you how much it means to me that you are still here, that you have survived all you have had to go through, and that you are still here, with me.

I understand where you are coming from, am awed at your poems on your website. You are one talented lady, thank you for your friendship, and your loyalty. God Bless.

I have said before that I greatly appreciate this board because it does not allow people to be bashed for unpopular opinions, and we don't have to put up with people constantly bashing the young actresses over and over. It's a good, safe haven.

That said, I did quit Days once. I left Days on September 28, 2012, which was Molly Burnett's (Melanie) last day. I didn't leave because she did. Around this time Gary Tomlin and Christopher Whitesell came back as headwriters and Peter Reckell (Bo) was leaving. And I didn't like the tone of Tomlin and Whitesell, which was "We don't care about writing for the veterans, so if you don't like our writing that's too bad. There's the door."

So I gladly walked out.

I came back full-time when Peter Reckell (Bo) did in August 2015, along with Stephen Nichols (Patch). I could have walked out again when Peter left, but I chose to stick around because there was a renewed emphasis on the vets and familiar faces.

I don't care for Rafe/Hope at all. I'd rather they told Peter we'd like you back on your terms because I think that could do something to raise this show's ratings. But I've made up my mind this time that I'm sticking around until the end, whenever that is.

Thank you, Steve, for saying what I didn't say in my post. As Poirot said, we go way back. Like many others who "followed" her from another board, this is it for me. I never check out other Days of Our Lives sites. I won't participate in a board/blog where the things mentioned in your first sentence are not only allowed, but encouraged. Poirot and Wayne have done themselves proud with this site and, although I am now a sporadic watcher of the show, I look forward to coming to this board many times during the day.

I admit I whine, only because I am disappointed with the overall potential that they have so much in front of them that is not being utilized. I know NBC, some of these members on this board are associated with Days staff, and actors do read the boards and comments. I want to be heard because, despite my age, I feel I am just as loyal and have the same commitment as those much older. I just don't feel the need to gussy up my comments and make myself seem a lot more educated then necessary when I am discussing a soap I love.

Again I whine and talk smack but I'd be grieving and very upset if the option of the show not being available to watch and relive was gone. I just feel since they do read what we want, why do some of these writers' don't do their own research or take any fan suggestions? They have recreated things that basically where they might as well start a spin off of Days of Our Lives.

I am one of those who have said I am almost ready to quit watching the show. And I think I can say that, with all due respect to those who are willing to see it until the end. Heck, I may even see it until the end, I haven't decided yet.

I too have been a loyal fan for more than thirty years now, although I did quit for a few months a while back, following the Marlena possessed by the Devil ridiculous storyline. But I eventually came back. Since then, I endured Sami and her rantings. For those of you who know me on this board, this is the character I could not stand, from the beginning, and it got even worse when she and EJ were paired as this great love story. But again, I continued watching, hoping it would get better. And it kind of did. For one, Sami and EJ did leave, so it was the end of "The Sami and EJ show". Then, Daniel died, thus the end of "The Daniel Jonas show". And some of the vets came back (still no sign of Jack, though, and that makes me mad) : Kayla, Steve (my all time favorite couple), Shane (not enough for my taste), Abe is seen more, etc.

But, alas, things still are not improving in my view. The stories for the vets are not worth it, in my opinion. Even now, Steve will be stuck with a child he had with Ava. Seriously ? Two minutes of marriage with Kayla and this ? Joey is bad enough... Sorry, I feel nothing for the character. Nor do I feel anything for Jade and her dad. Plus, so many others who leave me cold : Lani, now JJ, unfortunately, can't-crack-a-smile-mumbling-Eric, Claire, who's a waste of screen time, etc.

And the storylines ? Either boring, at least to me, too dark, or just plain stupid. I know this is not the real world, but a small dose of reality once in a while would at least add some balance.

Balance, now there is another thing that is seriously lacking. Too much gloom and doom, too much heartache, not enough joy, happiness, happy endings, comic relief. I mean, just look at poor Nicole. And when I say happiness and comic relief, I'm not talking about two women belly dancing to get a business deal ! Again, Poirot, you and I disagree on this and that's O.K. But to see the men talking business while the women "help" by belly dancing is not something I enjoy. I find it insulting, frankly. Not only to women, but to men also, who apparently need this kind of stuff to sign on a dotted line.

Anyway, all this to say, that to me, Days of our Lives is now like a bad book. Though I am a published author and I know the work that goes into producing a novel, if I do come across one that is badly written, in my opinion, I don't make it my goal to read it from beginning to end. Life is too short and I want to enjoy what I do, what I read, what I watch. If it becomes boring, infuriating, I will quit. Plain and simple.

Now, that does not mean I don't enjoy the board here, because I do. And I appreciate the summaries a lot (and I have written a few myself... not much, but I did try to help in the past). And maybe, to some, I may appear overly critical, so I am sorry about that and I may just step back, refrain myself from commenting until I find something positive to say about the show.

I just hope that happens soon... Otherwise, yes, I am out.

I started watching in early 1967 and have tried to watch every day since. Sometimes, of course, work got in the way. I was so excited when we got a VCR so I could binge watch on my days off work. I was so happy when it went from 30 minutes to an hour.

I have laughed, cried, and yelled at the show many times. Also read Early Edition and was thrilled when I found this site.

I only remember once that I said I would stop watching. During the Melaswen story, and I said if they kill Alice I would never watch again. I lied. I am still here!
I love this site as much I love the show. And when Days does go off the air:sad: I will miss talking to all of you about the shows twists and turns. But this board is so much more than talking about Days. I feel that all of you are family.

So to sum it up, THANK YOU to all of my cyber family.

Special thanks to Wayne and Poirot and all the staff that keep the Salem Spectator the safe and awesome site that it is.

I have watched since 1978 until last week. I never thought I would do it but I stopped watching, the whole Holly storyline is what did it for me. I might watch it again when the new writers stories start but I got tired of the bad writing so I had to stop and I haven't missed it at all. I hope to one day start watching again but I just need a break.

Sorry.

@Poirot I used to read the Early Edition! I've been watching since early 80's. I may fast forward through some scenes, but I will not give it up until it goes away and I have no choice!

I have been watching since preteens and will continue to watch until they carry me out! I appreciate everything Poirot does to help keep me updated as I don't always get to watch - This show is like our lives! We don't always like everyone or like what's going on in someone else's life but it's life - good, bad, & ugly.

Early Edition was a favorite way to get the scoop a little early. Not like now and we know months in advance sometimes what is going to happen.

I've been watching all these years as this was my mom's favorite show and we would talk about the show when I got home from school. She would laugh and tell me what so and so did that day, and how to NEVER do that! lol. Back then they were great life lessons. But no matter what, not going to stop watching.

I work fulltime and so I depend on this to keep me up to date, or on those occasions when one of my kids (or me) are home sick or a snow day allows me to be home to watch. (Speaking of which, I was home yesterday to watch and saw that Harry Connick Jr has a show right after? When did that happen?!)

Curiosity keeps me tuned in. I liked Sami and Rafe, but I also liked EJ and Sami, and now Rafe and Hope, and I want Adrienne to choose Justin. If she chooses Lucas, I'll stick around, because I know something else will happen with another storyline that I'll want to keep up to date.

The great thing about tv is that it can be turned off, unlike life. The key is to not take them both too seriously :)

Want to know what I loved about my big dish, and getting the feed to Canada a day early. I would get to see Monday's show early Friday a.m. So I would already find out the result of Friday's cliffhanger. Truly that was so fun for me, when I did Early Edition. LOL

Back then, the show only filmed several weeks in advance........not all these months as they do now. Heck, by the time we see some things, the actors have forgotten what they said or did. As far as spoilers, sure, we get them a couple weeks in advance now, but that just leads to lots of speculation, conclusion jumping, etc. so by the time it actually airs, sometimes it is a letdown, or folks are tired of talking or reading about it.

This is why the show is so emphatic to the cast about zipping their lips, and not posting pics with a new cast member until that person is either airing or about to air.
