Good morning. I couldn't sleep, so finally got up around midnight. I did get to see the last quarter moon rising shortly after I got up. It looked like an orange slice, but I guess it could have passed for one of Robin's peach slices, lol.

Something bit me on my left eyebrow while I was asleep. It's itchy, but hurts to rub it. My first thought was a brown recluse spider, so I looked it up online. I found a mnemonic, NOT RECLUSE, to help distinguish a recluse bite from something else. I think I'm safe. It seems all the rain is driving critters out of the woods!

Take care folks!

Good early morning, Bet you will be napping at some point today, kt. I was so tired, I dozed off during the Patrick Duffy Christmas movie last night on Hallmark. It was a new one...so guess I will have to see it on rerun sometime. I woke up at 5 a.m. and was so ticked, as was still so tired. My son showed up unexpectedly Friday evening, and my niece & her husband on Saturday. My nieces husband loves to fish, so she was bugging my son to come and take him fishing.

My niece is a fan of lighthouses, so was up in Minnesota, into Duluth, (left her 100 degree tempt for 54 instead. LOL But it warmed up here, was 82 yesterday. Anyway, she got 3 in Duluth area, (3 more before that) and even got to see one of those huge iron ore carriers pass under the lift bridge. (that is a ship like the Edmund Fitzgerald)

I will be off to shower, and then to church today. I think my son has to return home today sometime, as he has work.

Good Sunday

Restless and sleepless night. No Hallmark channels in hospital so missing Hallmark Christmas movies. Hoping to nod off soon.

KT: a recluse bite would not be a good thing. Glad you saw the moon but hope you nap today.

Poirot: enjoy your surprise family visit and still get to nap today. Glad it is warm for your area....At last.

AGuy: sure hope your continued healing is progressing smoothly.

Wishing each of you a relaxing day.:)

Good morning. I was the only SS member when I signed in a couple of minutes ago. It rained a couple of tenths here last night. I heard thunder right before I went to sleep, thought it was missing us. A few more sprinkles this morning. It won't amount to much more.

Noel, I did not know you are in the hospital. I guess I missed that when I read about your passing out and falling. I kept wondering why you weren't in the hospital. Seems you are where you need to be then. I hope they've been able to get your blood pressure under control. Sorry you are missing the Christmas movies. Hospitals definitely don't have the best choices in tv.

Thinking of A. Guy too. Hope you are healing well, Guy.

Kt, from yesterday's Donuts, I've always wanted to have a garden of native plants but never did do it. I guess in a way I do have one, since my yard is essentially just part of the surrounding pasture that gets mowed. I get wildflowers, cactus, yuccas, and all kinds of native things coming up in it. Hope you get some rest today.

Poirot, how nice to have the unexpected family show up! I'd love to go somewhere and see all those things your niece went to see--lighthouse, big carriers, etc. I have been places and seen some of those but it's been so long ago the memories are dim. My friend in the Detroit area sends me pictures of lakes and rivers and such. She's been off visiting in NY state and recently sent pictures, including some at the Erie Canal, a place I've always wanted to go. The old song about it always fascinated me.

A quiet day here. Five minutes after I put out bird feed this morning, a raccoon was up there eating it, while several turkeys were on the ground getting the crumbs and drinking water. It's cloudy for now so I can open up all my curtains.

OC, it must be nice to see those wildflowers come up. Pretty, and you don't have to plant, or take care of them. The raccoon in the bird feeder would make me a little nervous.

No post-surgery problems; hope it stays that way. :)

Noel, I hope that you will recover quickly from your surgery/fall. Those wee ones need you!

KT, your spider bite suspicions reminded me to pick up some activated charcoal, just-in-case. You can buy spider bite first aid kits, but I think they are mainly powdered activated charcoal. It would be my luck to get bitten when the kit is miles away.

Poirot, I wouldn't mind seeing that big ship go under the lift bridge!

JS, when you mentioned propping eyes open, I flashed to that scene in "A Clockwork Orange!"

Have a restful Sunday, everyone!

OC: those wildflowers must be gorgeous. Enjoy a quiet restful day. Thanks for the kind thoughts.

JS: my granny used that saying too

Robin: take B12 and enjoy your family (wink).

AGuy: bravo to post-op healing for you!!

Another sunny day. It's in the 80s, but feels hotter than that. I made myself go outside after
dinner. I was out almost two hours. I hope I won't fall asleep too early this evening.

Noel, I didn't realize you were in the hospital. I hope they're working on your
problem and you'll be home soon.

kt, I hope you were able to sleep some today.

Poirot, enjoy your family visit.

robin, enjoy your family too.

I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their Sunday.

Kat, maybe you'd better have some of those toothpicks handy, in case you start falling asleep to early! I grew up with that saying too.

Robin, it's so nice to get to enjoy grandkids. I usually don't get much sleep when mine are around either.

A. Guy, I'm glad your recovery is going well. Oh that raccoon thinks he's a pet. He's usually there late in the afternoon but only occasionally in the mornings--it was cloudy this morning. My "feeder" is a one-layer scaffolding so the raccoon easily climbs up there and helps himself.

Kt, when my husband got bitten by a brown recluse, he was very sick in about an hour--throwing up, passing out, rapid heartbeat. I'm glad that didn't happen to you. I'm assuming you are still okay.

OC, I looked up symptoms of a brown recluse bite and so far don't have any. The bite was in my eyebrow, so I have some swelling and a droopy eyelid. Even a mosquito bite would make me swell like that. I do have tenderness below my jaw on that side. I'm thinking it's a lymph node kicking in to fight infection. I'm keeping an eye on it.

Edited to add: OC, that sounds more like a black widow bite your husband had.

From what I've read, a spider bite should just be cleaned with soap and water, then apply ice incrementally for swelling. Some things can make the bite area worse or cause the venom to spread faster.

Kt, you could be right. We didn't actually see the spider. It was in some jeans that were hanging in the closet. He put them on and drove to the field to plow. He said the calf of his leg felt irritated but he thought it was just rubbing against the tractor seat. Then when he started getting sick he headed home (nearly three miles) and had a hard time getting here because he was blacking out. He got in bed and wouldn't go to the doctor. The place on his leg started turning colors pretty soon and was hurting worse.

Over a few weeks, maybe months, it rotted out a hole about as big around as a quarter. He did go to the doctor after a couple of days. Dr. said probably a brown recluse bite. Of course there was nothing he could do about it then. He said if my husband had come in right away, a shot of cortisone might have helped somewhat.

Kt, it sounds like you are staying on top of it. The eyebrow is a nasty spot for any bite--so close to the eye. I'm like you, mosquito (and even gnat) bites make me swell up, and they seem to want to go for the eye area. I hope it doesn't get any worse for you, my friend.

Noel, I'm so sorry to hear you are in the hospital. Take care and I hope you are home soon.

It was pretty hot here today, with temperatures up to 105 degrees. My brother came over earlier to see my mom and also help me set out the garbage totes for pickup. Right now I'm just relaxing in the air conditioned house.

I hope everybody has a good evening and a good start to the next week.

Evening all. Tonight the monsoon is hitting my neighborhood.

The noise is the wind blowing. (turn down your sound)

Thunder and rain has now come. Thankfully Mr. Gus is too hard of hearing to be bothered. Rain is coming in sideways. Wind gusts measured up to 60 mph!!!

I'm just happy I was able to land prior to this storm hitting.

robin, I glad you got rain. I read there was flash flooding yesterday in Arizona and people died.
