Replay of the my son/your son thing. Tripp is outside listening to Kayla list his crimes, done to people who did nothing but love & accept him. Tripp stalks off. Steve worries that Tripp will be ruined in prison, and that Joey is already in prison (in his soul) as they go back & forth. Kayla essentially blames Steve for bringing Tripp into their lives, apparently she just went along with things because of how much Steve wanted them.

In a hotel room, Bonnie checks out her Adrienne look. Anjelica stops by, Bonnie meets her, their plans are great. Bonnie looks forward to seeking vengeance on Maggie (her first step is to dump Lucas, though she wants to have a little fun with him first). Anjelica is gleeful about Adrienne's plight. Anjelica scolds her for not doing her homework on Adrienne. The plan is for Bonnie to get with Justin, then dump him, so that he'll get over her, and Anjelica can move in. Lucas arrives, he is shocked to see Anjelica, who claims they're burying the hatchet. Bonnie/Adrienne agrees, Anjelica leaves. Lucas has been looking all over for her, Bonnie is flattered (anyone should see in a second that this is not Adrienne) but tries to keep it together. They kiss passionately, Bonnie pulls away and says we need to talk. He thinks they should marry quickly, quietly, stick around town for Sonny. Bonnie's response (again this should be a giveaway) although stilted at first, is let's break up. Lucas is stymied, wonders what could have changed since this morning, worries about remission, etc. Bonnie says she made the wrong choice when she chose Lucas, her heart belongs to Justin.

In the Square, Theo runs into Claire. He has flowers that she suspects might be for her, but they're for Abby. He laments Abby's peril, for which he feels responsible. He can't talk about his job, bolts. Later Claire gets a quarter tip from someone, Tripp comes up and returns something (an mp3 player with her songs, it seems) to her, will one day say he knew her when. He's leaving town. She wonders about his family, becoming a doctor, he flat-out says that he set up Kayla, now she hates him. Claire wants him to apologise. Tripp plans to flee, Claire says moving around a lot (like she did as a kid) is lonely. Tripp has no other options.

At the hospital, Maggie is visiting Abby's flower-laden room. Chad brings Thomas and they give her the stuffed elephant. Later, Harold has taken Thomas home. Abby and Chad talk. Abby doesn't want Chad to be with her because she's grateful, he assures her they are soulmates, and Gabi endorsed their being together. Abby is planning a getaway when she is out, but Chad reminds her he needs to confess to murder first.

At the Salem PD, Raines orders Lani to disclose what she knows about the Hernandez investigation, even though she can't. Tell me or you're fired. She talks about the fact that Mayor Abe is her father, supposedly not to threaten him, but to avoid disappointing Abe. Raines says she's dismissed.

At the Pub, Abe gifts Valerie with something that is not a ring. She reacts strongly thinking it's a ring, then they laugh a bit. He likes having someone to lavish gifts on, and is thankful for her getting him through his anger at Theo's job.

At the Nurse's station, Chad tells Theo he's grateful for what he did for him, and absolves him of guilt for Abby's condition. Chad is turning himself in, will try to protect Theo, but the police may have questions.

At the Pub, Kayla is closing up, Steve arrives. Kayla doesn't want to talk. Basically (sorry, these scenes are truly awful and make very little sense) Kayla accuses Steve of making decisions without her. Back and forth, back and forth. Kayla is equating the acts of Tripp and Joey, Steve continues to try to speak rationally and will do his best to protect Joe. Kayla gives him the boot.

Claire tells Tripp that Aunt Kayla is very forgiving, Claire talks about how she screwed up with Theo, originally she felt like running away, but now they are good friends.

In Abby's hospital room, Theo and Abby talk about Chad, and how he's trying to do the right thing. At the police station, Chad tells Raines (after a flashback to earlier in today's episode) that he's here to confess to murder.

Here's some fun info about the show you might enjoy, from the headwriter:
This addresses one of the issues we've been discussing here, about the silly switch.

The Doppelganger saga: The way I'm reading this, is Anjelica has come up with this absurdly elaborate plan to get back with Justin (umm, okay) and in throwing in her lot with Hattie and Bonnie she has teamed up with two women incapable of pulling it off. Hilarious. I say again hopefully this will not last long.

Here's how I would have written the Lucas and Anjelica exchange:

Lucas *seeing Anjelica:* What the heck are you doing here?

Anjelica: I wish just once someone in this town would greet me civilly.

Lucas: Oh I'm sorry. Hello Anjelica, how are you? What the heck are you doing here?

See. They clearly missed an opportunity to mine some comedy gold there. That's one of the reasons I've returned to point out this mistakes when they occur. :)

Claire and Tripp: I just realized that Tripp, who is a good-looking young guy, has been on the show for about four or five months now and they haven't done anything with him vaguely hinting of romance. Well I guess they kind of hinted that he was developing feelings for Jade, but since they were writing her out and she was totally fixated on Joey, that was a dead end. I think we're starting to see that change today.

Of course I don't know for sure, but there had to be a point to them having scenes now. I'm not too excited at the prospect of a Theo/Claire/Tripp triangle, to be honest.. But since those three are the ones in their age group who aren't related to each other, I think that's what we're going to get.

On the other hand, I've noticed a welcome change in Claire. She's starting to feel more like the nice sensible girl she was when she first arrived on the scene and less like the irritating overly self-involved twit we've gotten over the past year. I l like that.:clap:

Good to read that at least yes, the writers thought of the double mastectomy issue. Now I assume people knew Bonnie Lockhart. Has it ever been mentioned before that she was dead ringer for Adrienne? I don't know. Look alikes are always confusing. Surprised we didn't see anymore of Adrienne in jail.

I don't think Chad should go in there saying I want to confess to murder. He doesn't remember killing Deimos! He just needs to say apparently there was a picture of me, describe it and let the police investigate.

Thanks for the summary. I missed the last half of the show due to Trump's news conference coverage.
Yay! I missed Trump's news conference! :rotfl:

Better Call Vargas: If Joey's very ill-advised plan to go to prison to atone for the Ava murder ever is carried out, Steve should call Vargas to arrange for the same kind of protection he gave to Nick Fallon while the trickster was in jail.

Foolish Bonnie: She seriously thinks she can mess with both Maggie and Victor? She's on the road to perdition here. Once the all-knowing grouch catches on to what she's doing, he might have a new job for his wayward nephew, Xander.

Foolish Chad: Now he's gone and done it -- confessed to a crime he "thinks" he committed although he has no memory of it. If Raines had a sense of humor he'd put Chad and Sonny in a room and let them argue over who's the real killer. Chad: "I killed Deimos, I think; Sonny: "No, I killed him. I just know it."

Overconfident Steve: Kayla should insist that Steve reevaluate his ability to handle things. Today, he said that he thought could control the Little Trippy situation. This brings to mind the time he confidently said that he could "handle" Ava, and then he, Kayla, Bo, and Hope all ended up as captives at the Vitali family compound.

One Breakup Too Many: Bonnie and Hattie better hope that Lucas and John don't get together to discuss their breakups. The true weirdness of two such unlikely events in quick succession should raise red flags.

Thanks for the summary. I missed the last half of the show due to Trump's news conference coverage.
Lil0, you might want to check to see if your cable provider has Days on OnDemand? They have recently added Days to OnDemand. I also missed the last half of the show, but was able to catch the episode on OnDemand.

Thank you for the summary, Jason.

DrBakerFan, "If Lt. Raines had a sense of humor." :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I don't think a whole canister of laughing gas could make that man smile!
Here's something to make Raines frown: unless he's free to run the Salem P.D. like a tin-pot tyrant (like Big Boy Sonny at Titan), he simply can't fire Lani on the spot. As a government employee, she's entitled to due process. In addition, she would also be supported by the police union. Imagine union rep Rafe storming into Raines's office demanding to know what he thinks he's doing.

On a totally different subject, how about equal treatment for Abigail's toy stuffed elephant. Fred the ceramic elephant was the center of an involved plot, so why not this guy? Who knows, hidden inside the elephant could be the formula for Nick Fallon's long-lost fuels project, a key to a Stefano safe-deposit box, the secret recipe for Mama DiMera's tasty tomato sauce, or a mystic good luck charm (Salemites could really use this one.)

On the other hand, I've noticed a welcome change in Claire. She's starting to feel more like the nice sensible girl she was when she first arrived on the scene and less like the irritating overly self-involved twit we've gotten over the past year.
If they figure out a way to redeem Tripp without demonizing Kayla (which is how it looks like they're planning to do it now), I could support a Tripp/Claire coupling. And I have liked the redirection of Claire back to her original path, too.
In addition, she would also be supported by the police union.
Not in Salem, LOLOL. Although it appears they're setting Raines up to be a bad guy, but I'm hoping they're just trying to trick us.

Abby sure had a lot of flowers. I think it's time to recast Thomas unfortunately. The twins who play him are female and it's becoming a bit more obvious.

I really hope this Deimos stuff is wrapped up soon.

I'll say this again. If Anjelica wanted Justin so badly, why not just pursue him directly? He is single and unattached.

Claire and Tripp. I don't hate it. I'm open to a triangle.

Also, Claire must have been referring to her Aunt who is younger than she is and her grandmother who ignores her when she said her family is dysfunctional.

So was Lani actually fired or just dismissed from the room? I wasn't clear on that.

This is some of the best work I've ever seen from Mary Beth Evans(Kayla) and Stephen Nichols(Steve). I empathize with Kayla but I'm still on Steve and Joey's side. This needs to come out.

I am hoping that Steve, Kayla and Tripp can have a good sit down and he can apologize profusely. I think he really is a good guy and Kayla saw that really. I am hoping for a reconciliation. Maybe even Tripp telling Joey not to confess. That he forgives him. I also really like the new Claire. Such an improvement over the old Claire.

Has it ever been mentioned before that she was dead ringer for Adrienne?
Justin and Adrienne weren't on the show when Bonnie Lockhart was in Salem, so they were rarely mentioned.

But, there was one brief scene where someone mentioned Adrienne while talking to Bonnie and she replied "I hear that Adrienne is a real looker."

Thanks, Jason.

A very emotional day in Salem. Breakups, makeups and fighting.

I enjoyed Chad and Abby's getting back together scenes, but then
he told her he was turning himself in.

I smiled when Theo told Abby he as sad about Chad

Sad to see Bonnie break up with Lucas just so she can get back together
with Justin to break up with him. I really don't think Anjelica's plan to
get Justin is going to work at all.

I wonder how long Claire's break is supposed to be? She stopped
clearing off
tables to talk to Tripp, but she didn't go back to finish the job.

Interesting to see Tripp taking a trip out of town :)

Sad to watch Steve and Kayla fighting about his son/their son. Whatever happens
I hope they won't give up on their love.

Thanks for the summary. A good show. I really liked the teen scenes. Joey has become more responsible. Claire has matured. Tripp seems to be trying to get over his issues. Let's keep them moving forward. At this rate, they'll be acting more like adults than many grown Salemites. Also, I'm not happy about how Kayla is mad at Patch. Be mad at Tripp and Ava, if you must be mad at someone.

The doppelgänger thing has a lot of potential to be a funny storyline, like Vivian trapped in the sarcophagus 7 years ago (can't believe it's already been 7 years!). Hopefully the writers can deliver. Still, poor John, Marlena, and Adrienne. On the bright side, they (and Lucas) get more airtime.

The confession stuff at the cop shop reminds me of a scene in the early 2000s "Zorro" movie with Antonio Banderas, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Anthony Hopkins. Someone comes into the jail asking who Zorro is, and all the prisoners claim that they are Zorro (except for the real one, of course). Similarly, it seems everyone is simultaneously the killer of Deimos: JJ, Chad, Sonny, Xander, Victor...the list goes on and on. This needs to close up before September in my opinion. Time for a fresh storyline.

Bonnie and Anjelica were arguing pretty loudly, considering that they knew that Lucas was on the other side of the door.

Tripp told Claire about his setting up Kayla?!   Claire seems to have become a Maggie understudy, readying herself to take over the town busybody job. Unfortunately, she will have to get in line behind Jennifer.

So, Chad is willing to rat out Theo for "destroying (photo) evidence?"   Maybe he should wait for Theo to also feel so guilty, that he too confesses.

@macgyverswife, right on Chad confessing only to the photo!

This is some of the best work I've ever seen from Mary Beth Evans(Kayla) and Stephen Nichols(Steve). I empathize with Kayla but I'm still on Steve and Joey's side.
Well said. One ...er, very passionate and unique... person on twitter apparently "knew all along" that Kayla was "just going along with Steve." Okey dokey.
So was Lani actually fired or just dismissed from the room? I wasn't clear on that.
Honestly, I wasn't either. I think the latter, but I'm not sure.
I'll say this again. If Anjelica wanted Justin so badly, why not just pursue him directly?
She seems to think that the 6th Justin/Adrienne breakup will be the one that sticks. She also seems to think that this dumb scheme will work which makes her an idiot. LOL

Seriously though - after that scene I am now convinced that Anjelica has another motive that she hasn't told her dupes yet. What it is, I don't know, but sorry honey, Justin's no prize.
I really don't think Anjelica's plan to
get Justin is going to work at all.
I'm now firmly convinced that we're not supposed to think it will work, and that she has another motive. It better be worth it. I doubt it will be though, because Hattie, a once fun and innocent character, has now drugged and kidnapped two people. Is there any doubt she'll be back in Statesville by sweeps?
Be mad at Tripp and Ava, if you must be mad at someone.
By Tripp's own logic, Kayla had every right to kill Ava, since she killed Kayla's father. They should have used that angle on the little moron.

I don't like Steve and Kayla at odds but I think the stuff with Tripp is so fresh in her mind that she should feel angry and I am glad they aired it out. Not going the direction of letting this fester and bother Kayla so she gets full of resent!

Lt. Raines' low hiss of a voice bugs me but I also don't want to hear him scream either! Fickle, fickle!

Now the other day I was all "Poor John" now for this show I am all "Poor Lucas"! He was so enthusiastic about his plans.
