Days of Our Lives

Accusations, excuses, pity parties as Sami sinks even deeper into the quagmire of life she created all on her own. Gabi & Eli are talking, with Eli blaming JJ for shooting Theo, only because Theo was black & wearing a hoodie. Gabi is defending JJ, but Eli is defining JJ as a racist, tho won’t go so far as to say he is a white supremacist. Gabi decides to leave before she says something she will regret, and storms off.

Jennifer is with Hope, who eventually tells her about losing her job, breaking up with Rafe. Jen is relieved to know that Rafe convinced Abe to not fire JJ, and let Internal Affairs handle the case. Now the two talk at length over the breakup between Hope & Rafe with Jen getting Hope to realize the reason she did not want to get married was because she felt that if anything happened to Rafe, she just could not go thru that again (as she did with Bo). She loves Rafe, but is afraid of losing him. Jen convinces Hope to go tell that to Rafe, she needs to do so.

Rafe is listening to Sami make all her excuses about loving her son, wanting to help him regain his memory, doing what she had to do, doesn’t know why everyone thinks she was wrong. Rafe finally gets her to tell him exactly what she did. She moans about her son now hating her. His expression is great, she babbles, he notes she broke about a million laws, she rants at him about turning her in to his commissioner fiance’. He has not intention of doing so, and Hope is no longer commissioner, nor his fiance’. Sami’s turn to get “the look”. Whatever they tell each other, is beside the point. She soon makes a drink, gives him one, they sit and chat a bit.

Lani is with Abe, Theo gone for tests, tells him about the breakup with JJ. She is sad, but her focus is now on her father and Theo. Val comes in, Lani goes for a walk. Val wants to be there for Abe, feels she let Theo down during surgery, is so sorry. Nope, Abe doesn’t blame her one bit, knows she did her best, Theo was in good hands, he is glad she is there, needs her, loves her, she loves him, kiss.

Gabi has gone to see JJ, bringing him a burger, only says she & Eli had a difference of opinion over something. JJ does his blaming himself thing, Gabi protests, talks how it was not his fault, he did what he was trained to do. Tears and hugs.

Claire is with Tripp, bemoaning feeling so helpless, sitting around that hospital room with Abe, doing nothing. Tripp says maybe there is something she CAN do.

Thus, Claire arranges and holds a candlelight vigil for Theo, with lots of family & friends. She makes a short speech, then Abe gives a longer one, telling of a determined to make friends Theo, deciding to run for student council; how Abe feared he would say or do something to turn off the kids, but Theo made posters, great speech, was elected 2 years in a row. Then Claire sings the song she wrote for Theo, everyone holding their candles waving them back and forth a bit as she sings, while playing her guitar.

And back in Sami’s room, Sami almost kisses Rafe who has been holding her, but she draws back, apologizes, then goes on about how Hope will move on, but with her, once you have lost the love of your life……..oops, sorry, Rafe! But he gets it, understands, thinks eventually she will find someone again. Nope, that was it for her, (I do hate writing this, but she says it). No more men for her, she has her kids, her family & friends. And yes, their faces move closer together, short small kisses, big, more passionate ones.

LOL, and I did forget.......(thank you Barbara S. for the reminder). After the candlelight vigil, Tripp & Claire stand in the square, a bright light hits their faces. They sort of squint, and we see it is a motorcycle, the rider gets off, takes off the helmet (giving the rider a sort of Darth Vader look), shakes out the hair, turns around.....Claire says......Ciara? The rider glares.

Thanks for the episode.

I was so looking forward to Sami & Rafe's hookup, but when she said "love of my life" I was done. She can slink out of Salem anyday now. The writers' approach to this is just terrible.

Jennifer being there for Hope was nice, but don't encourage her! I want Hope & Rafe done forever--and not them predictably reuniting, then Hope learns the truth, and it's over. That will be months of pain. For the viewers, not Hope or Rafe.

The teens and young adults with Theo just felt like filler today. Just didn't care about any of it. Ciara's return, though, was good.

I couldn’t believe they are playing the race card! When Eli spit this out, I was in total shock and infuriated by this scripting. Thank goodness Gabi let him have it right between the eyes.

Yes, this is, unfortunately, a very real issue but there is enough of this sadness in the real world. Let us please have an out for one hour a day. Unbelievable!

The thing about Eli suggesting *and that's probably putting it lightlly* racial bias on JJ's part is they couldn't really do this story without bringing it up because sadly the perspective Eli voiced. It had kind of been the 600-pound elephant in the room. I don't think they could just ignore it.

My problem with Eli and Gabi's conversation is we know what happened the night JJ shot Theo. So we know Eli's accusation is in fact a load of hogwash. That's why I think the story would work better if we hadn't seen the actual shooting, if we as the audience had come upon a stricken JJ trying to care for a injured Theo like Lani did. That way there would be some ambiguity and things would have more power. I think JJ's self-doubt would have more impact.

I still wouldn't agree with Eli suggesting JJ that the shooting occurred due at least in part on some latent racial bias on JJ's part-because JJ has never hinted at such feelings, but I think then we could view the question has having a bit more validity. Because well Eli just doesn't know JJ that well. That's my opinion anyway.

Some of my other thoughts on the show:

I think the vigil was a nice idea on paper but somewhat lacking in execution. I had to resist the urge chuckle whenever Abe or Claire said "All of us who love Theo" because I kept thinking you mean his family and three extras? It was kind of a pathetic turnout, I'm sorry to say. I think this was a situation where they should have loosened the purse strings a little and did a crowd scene.

On the plus side, I have say I rather like Olive Rose Keegan's (Claire) singing voice. She makes me think of a young Jewel.

Sami and Rafe: I really don't care much but I did get a kick out of the look on Rafe's face when she told him what she had done to Will. All I can say is that the world of Samantha Gene Brady is a rather...special place, isn't it?

Gabi and JJ: I loved their scenes, although I'm not sure what's going on. I like her with Eli and I don't think their argument is necessarily a precursor to them going their separate ways.

But it darn it all, if those scenes don't reignite my love for Gabi and JJ. I still think with a chance, they could have been more than they were the first time around. But again, I still see the potential for Gabi and Eli. So my loyalties are definitely torn. *sigh*

What, oh what, is a Gabi fan to do?

I enjoyed the show today but there was only 1 part that threw me for a loop and that's when Sami said the love of her life, referring to EJ. I have watched Days for a lot of years and I have never known EJ to be the love of her life.

Rafe knows Sami so well. Loved his expression when she was telling him what she did.

I also love that Gabi is there for JJ. I am still hoping these two find their way back to each other.

actually, Abe said about the same thing to JJ when the shooting first happened. He mentioned the hoodie, it startled me back then.

However, Eli being so adamant about it...seemed out of character for him. The scene was very forced, in my opinion.

@Troy42-We all have our opinions, that’s a good thing. However I strongly disagree that Eli’s venomous theory of JJ being racially biased had to be addressed. JJ has never exhibited prejudice towards Theo, Lani, Valerie, or Abe, or any other ethnicity.

I totally agree with you, JJ has never exhibited any racial bias against anyone. We, the audience, know that. Eli hardly knows JJ, so he doesn't. Sure, one could probably argue that Eli has been in Salem long enough he could/should have gotten to know JJ well enough to know what kind of person he is, but apparently not.

And just to be clear: I don't like that that Eli expressed that theory at all. And to say that it had to be brought up was probably a bit of an overstatement on my part.

But my point was that sadly in a case like this it would be something that would be be brought up, as unfair as it may be it would be brought up

I actually agree with your original post, Tobyj, but I was saying, as ugly as it was, I understand why they did it.

Hear, hear. This makes Eli look like a dope to the uninformed viewer, and is grinding a mill many of us already understand. I don't think Days can handle a story like this. Especially not in an episode where a woman is pining for her abuser to one of her abuser's other victims.

Meanwhile it was interesting to see the correcting couples pairing up in non-romantic scenes; Tripp and Claire, Eli and Lani, and JJ and Gabi.

Thanks, Poirot.

Hopefully, Monday will be a new day in Salem and Gabi won't be wearing her
peek a boob dress.

Is it too late for Hope to tell Rafe she wants him back? It might be because
he's kissing Sami now.

What an entrance Ciara made coming back to Salem. Riding her motorcycle
in the Horton Square. I thought of Shawn and his motorcycle escapade.

LOVED the look on Rafe's face when Sami started to tell him what she had done to Will! Priceless.

DOUBLE LOVED that Ciara Brady rode in on a motorcycle.

That was the most pathetic vigil EVER! I actually started laughing when they thanked EVERYONE for coming (all 10 people and we only knew 5 of them). I know they threw it together but you'd think Roman and some people that cared about the Carvers would show up. That scene was ridiculous! I do admit though that Claire is one of my least liked characters. I typically fast forward whenever she comes on. She can sing though!

Have a great weekend y'all!

A bit of a slow episode for a Friday and a very poorly edited one but still an ok episode. I liked it.

I too thought Eli's accusations were out of nowhere but I loved Gabi defending JJ and then going to see him. I too hope they find their way back to one another again. I don't dislike Gabi with Eli but I like her with JJ better and I feel like we've been cheated out of them as a couple so many times already. I want to see them make a go for real.

Actually maybe Eli should recuse himself from this case.

I wish I could care about Val and Abe professing their love to each other but I don't.
Claire and Tripp: :love::love::love:

I thought it was interesting that we didn't actually see Theo today since most of the show revolved around him. It was almost like they we treating him as dead instead of comatose.

Yes the vigil was a bit pathetic. Where were the rest of the family members and friends?

The Jen/Hope and Sami/Rafe scenes were great. Well written and well acted.

I hope Shawn didn't teach his sister how to ride a motorcycle.

I couldn't see the show today, so enjoyed the write-up.

I gasped when I read what Eli did. For heaven's sake, JJ was dating Lani and Abe has been a family friend forever. Speaking of Abe, I think he has gone overboard with JJ. He's been a cop for 40 years and should realize things go wrong sometimes. Wish I could have seen Ciara ride in on the bike! Regarding Sami and Rafe. Can't two people ever comfort one another, without falling in bed?
