The first thing I noticed when JJ turned in his weapon was that he pointed it at Hope when he put it on her desk. BIG NO NO!! I was taught as a child that you NEVER point a gun at anyone. It's probably a good thing he won't be handling a weapon any more.

Very true, but does the Salem P.D. really offer any serious training? Yes, there were episodes that that showed JJ going to the police academy, but what was he really taught? Instead of the usual subjects, the curriculum probably consisted of how to conduct personal business during work hours, learning clever lines with which to insult Andre and other DiMeras, initiating love affairs with fellow police officers, covering up crimes committed by friends, and making illegal warrantless searches.

I was taught that with all hunting weapons: knives, handguns and rifles. That was a huge faux pas for the show.

Actors. One reason they are generally given rubber guns. Unless the script calls for actually firing the weapon.
Reminds me of actor Jon-Erik Hexum who put a loaded prop gun to his head and pulled the trigger. The blank caused a piece of skull to go into his brain, rendering him brain dead. This happened in 1984 on the set of his TV show, Cover Up (which he starred in with actress Jennifer O'Neill). It was an actual gun but loaded with blanks. He removed all but one and was playing around between scenes, not realizing a blank could be dangerous.
