Ice bucket challenge

Pretty funny.......a GLASS??? The "longer" version. Cannot play it, see it, etc.

Boy, I had never heard of this before this weekend, and it sure has spread like wildfire. I have seen news anchors, actors, entertainers, athletes, etc. doing this just this last couple of days. Wow.

I am loving seeing all of the celebrities who are doing this. ALS is a horrific disease and it's just great that it is getting some awareness and funding for research for a cure. By the way Steve Gleason, former player for the New Orleans Saints who has ALS, upped the stakes to a naked ice bucket challenge :rotfl:

This is a link to the ALS Association website http://www.alsa.org/fight-als/ice-bucket-challenge.html

There is a video of the Foo Fighters challenge and it is hysterical - they did a take on the original Carrie movie.

I have a dear friend here who has it, is now bedridden, in hospice care, can no longer swallow. I was watching some clips of "accidents" during the challenge that were pretty funny, and no one was hurt. The people pouring, who dropped the container on themselves, tripped, or the person supposed to be getting the water/ice getting hit in the head with the container. Funny really was the guy who backed out, so his wife actually climbed up on their roof with a bucket of ice water, and when he came out of the house to go to work, she was overhead and he got doused. LOL

On the Today show, Jenna Bush Hagar challenged her parents, especially her mother, wanting to see her mom's hair messed up.

President Bush said he thought it was unpresidential to get doused with water, so he'd make a donation to ALS, but then Laura Bush came up behind him with a bucket of ice water and dumped it over his head. She said she'd make the donation since she wasn't messing up her hair. It was a funny clip.

I think someone challenged President Clinton, too; not sure if he did it, though.

The primary goal of the challenge has been to increase awareness and I think they've accomplished that goal. I'll be the first to admit that I don't know anyone personally who's been affected and the disease itself was nowhere on my radar. Great job to whoever was responsible for this brilliant campaign and to the celebrity participants who've used their notoriety for good.

There was a high school football coach named Charlie Wedemeyer who had ALS. He and his wife wrote a book, which is outstanding. (he's also the brother of Herman Wedemeyer, who played Duke on the original Hawaii Five-O)

In 1988, a TV movie was made about Charlie's life and struggles, with Michael Nouri playing Charlie Wedemeyer and Pam Dawber playing his wife, Lucy.

Charlie died in 2010.

If you ever get the chance to read the book or catch the movie, they're both well worth the time.

My awareness came through Steve Gleason, as mentioned before. He has a foundation that raises money to assist those with ALS for special housing and technology. He is partnered with Microsoft in technology developments. And several months ago he passed the 3 year mark they had given him for survival.

Heck he even made the climb to Machu Picchu last year (with a lot of help from friends) The NFL made a documentary of it and I cry every time I watch it.
Needless to say I am a HUGE fan of his

Even funnier that Ali talks of the "drought" in California which is why she only uses a glass, but there is that huge pool of water. LOL. The guy is one of the trainers on Biggest Loser.

Chrishell Stause (Jordan) her good friend Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea on Y&R) and her beau, Justin Hartley (new Adam on Y&R), all took the challenge.

edited to write out actress' name; also to fix uploaded clip....JS

I love your signature, girl. And I truly love that you are going to do the challenge.

I have 2 friends, one male, one female, who have died after contracting this disease. And a dear friend now who is under hospice care. She can not move her arms or legs, cannot swallow, can barely speak, but her mind is as sharp as ever. So.....when you do the challenge, can you perhaps just whisper..........this is for Merry? (yes, that is her name)

There is a great video on Ben Affleck's Facebook page of him doing it and pulling his wife Jennifer Garner into the water with him with his kids laughing in the background.

Ali Sweeney (Sami) was not a happy camper in that video. I shudder to think of what she said to Dolvett when the cameras were turned off.

Great article on the Ice Bucket Challenge: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/18/b...raised-millions-for-als-association.html?_r=0
