Peter Pan Live

LOL, gotta say there are a lot of different opinions about the whole thing. :)

I read many thought Christopher Walken, who played Hook, was lethargic... But Captain Hook isn't a very enthusiastic character anyway. Disney doesn't portray him that way on the Neverland Pirates show (Peyton watches it every day). On top of that, Walken is in his 70s, I think. I thought he was spot on. Peter Pan is supposed to be fast, energetic. And Captain Hook, a schemer with henchman to take care of business for him.

If so (in re: Captain Hook) then they should not have had him supposedly singing and dancing. I give him credit for the attempts, but ......
Heck, John Travolta probably could have done well in that part.
When I read interviews with various performers, they noted that during rehearsals, Walken never did the same thing twice. You had to be on your toes, as he stood in different places, looked at a different person than he was supposed to, that you never knew what he was going to do.....or even say.

Apparently he was in Jersey Boys movie as well this year. He seemed to have been given very basic singing and dancing parts, probably for a reason but I think Allison Williams was the draw not him.

I forgot to mention that the visible wires were really bothering me. They should have used clear ones.

I don't think there was lip syncing but I do think there were sound issues. Especially in the first couple songs the music was too loud. I know I read that after Sound of Music they decided to have 2 different sound mixers, 1 for music and 1 for speaking. They will likely fix these glitches on the DVD. I have the Sound of Music DVD and I know there were mistakes in the live broadcast but they were edited out of the DVD.

And I loved the Walmart commercials with Melissa Joan Hart and family too.

I finally saw the show last night. I skipped the commercials :)

I really enjoyed the show. It's been years since I've seen the
performances done on TV with Mary Martin and I've forgotten
most of the story. I sang along when I knew the song.

I think everyone did a great job. I kept wondering about
the dog. I know in some productions it's someone inside a
costume. I think this time they had real dog since they
kept holding onto the collar.

The wires bothered me too, but I read reviews after and they
mentioned it. They used clear ones when she was flying over the ship.

I hope NBC does another live production. They didn't get
as many viewers, but they got good ratings.

It was definitely a real dog. They talked about it during the "Making Of" special which is on the NBC site.

I watched the Sound of Music Live again last night. I'll be curious to hear the ratings for that even though a rerun.

Peter Pan was panned a bit in some article I just read about "gaffes and mistakes" the past year. Only about 6 were discussed, but last season and definitely last show of How I Met Your Mother was @1. They talked of the long time host of Meet the Press being fired/let go, and of Peter Pan...I think mostly because (as some of us noted) it ran too long - 3 hrs.
