Downton Abbey

LOL, I saw that. Violet wins. Truly clever. Watched Manners of Speaking after, with their little round table discussion, over the air interview with Matt Rousch of TV Guide, and is interesting the take on various happenings. I will say Lady Mary is very self absorbed, Am glad Cora learned the truth, but no idea why Anna now has to have seen something "odd" at the train station.
One never knows the direction any story is going to go, so the writer here (Julian Fellowes) really keeps us intrigued.

So funny when Violet said of Lord Grantham, "He's a man. Men don't have rights!"

Interesting in the previews when Lord Grantham sees something about little Marigold that looks familiar to him. I was wondering if people wouldn't see a resemblance to Edith in the child and start to get suspicious.

An off-the-topic question. Does anyone watch Grantchester, which follows Downton Abbey on my channel? Is a Vicar a Catholic priest? From the way the character is being played, I keep wondering if a Vicar can get married. The show is a little odd but I've gotten hooked on it.

About Marigold resembling Edith, when I was a child someone related to us had an adopted daughter. Everyone remarked about how much the daughter looked like her adopted mother. I didn't know until many years later that the child was a product of the mother's brother's illicit affair. I used to think it strange that an adopted child often bore a resemblance to one of the parents. Now I realize there may have been a reason for it more often than anyone knew.

I watch Grantchester and have been a little confused about that question too. Sometimes something is said that makes me believe he chose the church over marriage, but at other times I get the impression it doesn't have to be either/or.

I watch Grantchester and I'm confused if he's a Catholic priest or
a vicar also. I like the show, except too much drinking and smoking

I just looked up vicar and it could be a priest or any member
of clergy

In Britain, the Church of England is big.........and it's priests are called Vicars. But a Catholic priest also can be called Vicar. There WAS a series on PBS about Father Brown, an elderly priest, who rode a bicycle, lol, and solved or helped solve crimes.
...from Wikipedia.....Sidney Chambers is an Anglican priest (and former Scots Guards officer) who finds himself involved in solving crimes, assisting the overworked Detective Inspector Keating. They forge an unlikely partnership with gruff Keating's methodical approach to policing complementing Chambers' more intuitive techniques of coaxing information from witnesses and suspects.....

I also enjoyed Violet calling Mary out on her lack of compassion for Edith. What will Mary do with herself with Tony gone and the other guy leaving the country for such a long period of time? I'm sure she'll find another victim to lure in and then decide to cast him aside once she's won his affection and he's broken off an engagement.

Another good episode

I was surprised when Anna was arrested. I wonder if another
woman did it that might look like her.

I was happy for Mrs Patmore when Richard showed
her the memorial for her nephew.

It didn't take Richard long to figure out about Marigold.

Did someone on here say this may be the last season? Anybody know for sure? I can see how it might be, since a lot of the characters seem to be scattering. I will be sad to see it go.

They have announced there will be a season 6. There are rumors based on Julian Fellows' NBC TV show he's working on, that he might not continue on with Downton. But nothing official.

They did create a twist with Lord Grantham and Marigold, that the resemblance he saw was Gregson and not Edith.

If Green had a "type" as the police said, then it possible that it was another woman that resembled Anna.

What a season finale.

We heard Violet's secret about the prince, oh my.
Poor Isobel, she won't marry Dickie now.

Mr Carson asked Mrs Hughes to marry him

I knew Bates would show up at the end. That's when
I cried.

Evidently, they are already filming Season 6. Really, it was a wonderful end to the season.
I truly hope that this nonsense with Green's death is over, and it is once again declared an accident, which it probably was. Unless it was some other woman he raped, who may have given him a shove.

I loved the entire household singing those Christmas carols, but was surprised at the verses, which were not familiar to me. I loved Robert telling Edith he realized Marigold was her daughter, and he loved her and tis fine. I am glad that Violet still has her friend Isobel to hang with, and that both ladies made their decisions on their own, for their own reasons.
I was so touched by Carson and Mrs. Hughes. First, that he bought the house in both their names, and then asked her, in such a different way, to marry him. It really was sooo romantic. And yet they never kissed, have never called each other by their given names, and barely held hands when she accepted. And no ring either. Loved it.
And the very difficult father-in-law was saved from embarrassment and disgrace by Rose, which has now endeared her to him. Sort of clumsy, but glad Mr. Grumpy had a change of heart.
I really liked that Moseby & Baxter visited all those Pubs to find the one where Bates had lunched, and that Thomas' scheming was for something worthwhile. Ah, that snobby, nasty butler got his comeuppance for sure. And Bravo to Violet for pronouncing the broth so delicious. LOLOL. She could barely keep herself from making a grimace.
And Anna was home for Christmas, and Lord Grantham managed to get hold of Bates who returned to her as a surprise. Yayyyyyy. Applause, Applause, take a bow, Downton. Twas ALL good.

I enjoyed Violet too when she said the broth was yummy.

I wondered about the Christmas songs too. Maybe they are
song that way in England.

Well, that is certainly good news! Read an interview with Julian Fellowes who writes Downton. He mentioned he no longer owns the show, that it is owned by NBC Universal now, that renewal is just one year at a time, and that he is penning a series for NBC called The Gilded Age...at least, so far, that is what it is called. He also said that while American audiences are different than British ones, they have so embraced Downton....(whose ratings slipped a tiny bit in Britain this past season).

Poirot and Kat, you summed it up for me. I enjoyed all those things you mentioned. Poirot, I agree with you about the proposal being so romantic. That was so much more romantic to me than watching people rolling around in bed.

I think Mary was attracted to the new guy at the hunt. I wonder if he may give her a run for her money. I wouldn't mind seeing her humbled a bit.

Oh, and it was nice that Mary warmed up to Edith a tiny bit when they and Tom were in the bedroom having a moment of remembrance for Sybil. (Hope I got all the names right. I still have trouble remembering the names of all the characters).
