Is there a way to just view Status Updates and Like/Comment on them? It seems you can only do this by pulling up a member name one at a time?

Not that I'm aware of. I think you can only view them individually on each member's profile.
@Heather4CU -- I realize your question is several months old now. Just wanted to mention that now you can do what you're asking for. Under Members, select "New Profile Posts"... There's not really a way to keep up with a profile post from months ago except maybe going to someone's account, but if you wanted to keep up with a rolling "facebook style" list of status updates, that's your place.
There's also the "Activity Updates" under Members which really IS more like a FB log of who did what, when. This morning, it looks like @Just Samantha is trying desperately to catch up with @Poirot with the post numbers
