Spectator 5.0 still a work in progress.

Thanks for all your dedicated hard work. Kudos!!
Noel,

Thank you very much, but honestly (and with great humility), We wouldn't be here today if it weren't for the continuous hard work and dedication of one person, Poirot, who makes this entire site possible. If there's anyone who deserves thanks for dedicated hard work, it should most definitely be her (and her staff)...

Please give it up for the real heroes, not just the cowardly wizard behind the curtain... :)

Much love and respect,

Wayne

Thank you, Oh Wizard Behind The Curtain. Is it time to donate to the Spectator upgrade fund again? Please let us know.

Honestly, it's not about money. Well, ok, no one here is rich (I'm presuming). It's about the author's abandonment of his projects, only to rebrand them a year later as paid modules. I understand his desire to get paid for his work, but between the three free modules we were using (all of which are now pay-to-play), the cost is more than the initial cost of the Site software package (Xenforo) itself... I find that a little objectionable, and I'm looking for lower-cost (or at least official from the Xenforo company) alternatives.

Have to admit that I started to panic when I popped in a few minutes ago for the first time since early Saturday morning. This was the first place that I came to after Windows 10 finished installing a few minutes ago. My first thought was (cleaned up language so Poirot and Just Samantha don't have to correct / warn me in red) ......."What the heck! Windows 10 messed with my Spectator!!! I want Windows 7 back!" :rotfl: I'm glad that I finally found this thread. Now time to sleep.

I'm SO sorry for any confusion or irritation. Upgrades are never easy, and to get hit with both the Windows 10 upgrade and the Spectator upgrade on the same day was probably pretty jarring... Hopefully though, you haven't chucked your computer out the window as we all wanted to do with the Windows 8 upgrade... :)

Wayne it does go to last message in topic, but it stops in middle of message instead of
at top of it. I have desk top computer so maybe that's why.

Thanks Wayne, I wanted to let you know.

I'm glad you were able to fix the web site without
have to make drastic changes
:)

Yes, happens to me, too, the going to latest new response, but middle. Sometimes it will go to the top of it a few seconds later. Also have desktop, as many do.

Thank you Wayne for upgrading the site

Any chance you can PM me the URL that you are getting this issue with? I mean, what page are you on and what are you clicking when it takes you to the middle of a post? Still trying to replicate the error here. Need to make sure we're on the same page (proverbially speaking)...

Since it happens anywhere (in fact just did in this thread) ...bit hard to give you an url. However, for me, it goes to the middle of the new post, jumps down a bit, then up and then is back in the newest post.

Maybe you can borrow a Windows based computer for just a minute , and try it, thus see what we mean. Libraries usually have Windows based desktops.....but perhaps you can go in a store and fake an interest in purchasing one. (just kidding now...)

I have a laptop, but have not been here with it yet. I do realize that those who only use phones probably don't even see the site the way others do. (Cause before, it looked a bit different on my laptop. and by the way, I HATE the laptop)

I really don't know (yet) that it's a Windows issue, or a "desktop" issue. I simply don't have enough information to replicate the problem as of yet. Specifically, I haven't seen the issue, but I may not be clicking on the same thing you do, so I have no idea where to begin looking.

If I were to guess, I'd think it might be related to that little part of code that keeps the header menu (at the top of your screen right now) scrolling up or down with you, but I have no real way to know until I can replicate, then test the problem on my end (finding, then turning that feature off -- though I think we'd miss it)

I found the birthdays, too, kat. It's under members>notable members, best I can tell.

I did notice I had received some private messages, but they didn't show up on my email like before. I wonder if that option is gone or because of my email provider. I haven't checked my profile to see if it needs any tweaks.
