Good morning! I'm up early, even with my back hurting. My roommate had to be in the shower by 6:45 and she takes really long showers so I hopped in first at 6:30.
Day 2 of medication. We'll see how it goes. I tried the pain meds last night. Very little effect on me. Like, I'm supposed to get sleepy while taking it? Well, one pill did nothing (though it was close to bedtime anyways). Eased my pain very little. Yep. Now wouldn't you imagine, I can't take tylenol or advil because they never work for me? If this stuff BARELY, ever so slightly works, then there's something wrong. I must need like, morphine for pain. Lol! Medicines often have little to no effect on me. Last semester, I had to take some penicillin and to this day? My tonsil is still swollen. I'm just learning to deal with that. I actually also have a high tolerance for pain. When my back first started hurting, I powered through it. Yep. Only went to the doctor after a weekend of the rash/pain being there.

But yeah, hopefully this medicine will at least get rid of my rash. I think I might have a spot of it on my chest but I can't tell. Might be. But it's only one little one. I get pimples on my chest a lot so originally I was just like...yeah that's a pimple but now I'm not so sure...

Anyways, yep. For those of you who didn't see yesterdays' thread, I got shingles. And I'm only 19. Let the old jokes commence!

Meanwhile, Sunny, why you torture us with cheddar bay biscuits??? Lol! Just because you went to Red Lobster and all I got for lunch yesterday was free Don Jose (my friend's family owns the place)....

Good morning everyone. A cold day with a dusting of snow to come later. We're already 6 feet below the amount of snow that we should've had since January 1st. I hope we don't have monsoon rains in the spring to make up for it.

Heading up the highway to a senior center that is 2 hours away. Not looking forward to the drive this morning.

@ sunny - Yummy! I love the biscuits.

@ lily - I feel for you. Shingles is an awful horrible pain. Unfortunately, I couldn't take the shingles drug, and mine lasted over a year. It felt like someone was sticking long needles in me all of the time. I'm proof that the old wives tale about shingles is wrong....mine went all the way around from my chest to my back in a circle, and I'm still here.

So what's the old wives tale?
Firstly, I know one "tale" is that only old people get it but apparently it's becoming more and more common for younger people to get it.

Good morning, everyone! Rachael & I have started the day lazily, but I've got to get moving soon. I'm always amazed at how messy a house can get in 1 day.

Morning, Sunny & thanks for the biscuits!

Lily--My mom had shingles a few years back & the only thing that worked for her pain was the combination of tramadol & Lyrica. Traditional painkillers like hydrocodone, oxycodone, and morphine don't work well for that kind of pain. You definitely should be on some kind of antiviral like famciclovir or valacyclovir to prevent post-herpetic neuralgia, though. I think the wive's tale RS is talking about may be that shingles only affects one dermatome, like your right upper back or left upper chest, etc. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

RS-- good luck with your senior center. I hate driving for work, so God Bless you on the road!

Yeah, I have hydrocodone and then I also have the antiviral acyclovir. But, honestly, I have such a high pain tolerance, it really doesn't bother me THAT much. Sure it hurts like hell but I've always been able to tolerate pain like this. And if that's the old wives tale then I'm a textbook case. Lol. Mine is on my right upper back, on the edge of my shoulder blade, thankfully above my bra-line! Back pain is right beneath the rash. I was an excellent teaching tool for many people yesterday. (nurses, nursing students, med students) I felt like an animal in a cage. But other than the back pain and the rash, I have no other symptoms. No typical "sick" feeling. I feel normal. Except my back hurts.

Good Morning all. We are supposed to get some snow this afternoon. Our weather continues to yo-yo. Yesterday it was almost 60, I walked at lunch to Georgetown and got some Georgetown Cupcakes (yummm...). Today it's barely 30 and snow is coming. Go figure!

My nephew's cousin is doing "Flat Stanley", and I have him right now. Flat Stanley, for those who dont' know is a kids book about a kid who is flattened and gets mailed around the country to visit. The idea is the kids mail him to people who don't live near them and have that person show Stanley around and take his picture at various places. So I took him to Georgetown. I plan to take him to the National Mall soon to get his pic at some monuments.

Our new office space is coming along. I really like it. I have a window. The whole space is much more open and we can all see each other.

Sunny, thanks for the cheddar biscuits, love them!
Lily, sorry that you have Shingles. Hope it's not too bad. I have a friend who had it at 25, so apparently it's becoming more common with younger people. Feel better!
Squirrely, a two hour drive....drive carefully. That snow is on it's way.
    NCR, enjoy your lazy morning.

    Have a good day all.
    tropical breeze appreciates this.

Good morning folks. Was up again at 4:30 a.m. Ugh. Stomach has not gotten any better, but I stopped the new med, tho actually, I just missed only 1 dose, and that was yesterday. Out temps dropped way down near zero again, after several days in the mid-upper 30s. We had a few snow flurries yesterday, nothing to speak of. The warmer weather melted all the snow off the roofs and trees, ground is still all white. LOL
Had shingles twice now, once on my face, and again around my chest, just below the bra line. Shingles follow a nerve line. My husband first got them in his very late 20s his back round to the front, down the hip into the groin area. It was years later that he got them on his face, very different from me. Mine went from around the cheek bone, up into eyelid, forehead and into the hairline/scalp. His was from the chin line up over the cheek. He was first told it was an abcess and given some antibiotic, broke out in a huge rash which was so itchy, he went to ER at 2 a.m. where they realized it was shingles.
At least I recognized it the second time right away and got myself in to the ER (twas a Saturday, and my doc office was closed. )
The sun is out, the temp is up to 10. More laundry today. I canceled my dentist yesterday cuz of the stomach problem, which I hope alleviates within the next day or so.

Good Morning! Another chilly day today, after having really nice weather the past few weeks mother nature seems to feel the need to remind us that winter is not over yet. My exercise class last night went really well, definitely helped motivate me especially after everything I ate on Sunday. We have confirmation tonight for my sister, and I told her I hope she gets picked on by the bishop like I did when I was confirmed. Tomorrow is her 18th birthday so in a matter of 24 hours she will be seen as an adult in the eyes of the church and state.

@Lily: I do hope you get better soon!

    MORNING ALL!

SUNNY...I thought you might have Cheddar Bay Biscuits to share today after your trip to Red Lobster yesterday.
LILY...I know a three people who have had shingles...one in their 20's, one in their 40's, and one in their 50's...so i dont think it is for the elderly anymore.
RS...the lack of snow has to be good for your basement :)
NC...hope your cleaning goes quickly so you can have a relaxing day
OLIVIAUNT...I am sure you will get some great pics of Flat Stanley....lots of photo ops in your area.
BARB...I had the tummy problem last week, but it was due to the antibiotics that I was on. Activia helped A LOT.
JENLE...is the exercise class something new??
    ROCKY...morning!

I am super excited because my "little brother" and his wife are coming in from VA this weekend. Him and his brother and sister are throwing a party for his mom's 70th bday and mom and dad's 50th wedding anniversary. He is not actually my brother, but our parents have known each other since before either of us were born and his family is my second family, his parents live about 2 miles from me. (When we lived in Houston, we lived right next door to my parents. So when we moved to Magnolia it was nice to have my 2nd parents live so close by.) We usually only get to see him once a year, so this is a treat.

    Everyone have an OUTSTANDING day!

Good Afternoon Everyone, Have not been able to post for the last several days something has been wrong with our internet through our phone company. But now I am able to get on and read the tons of emails I have.
Lily-sorry that you have the shingles hope you feel better soon. My Dad and brother-in-law have had them on their backs and I know it be painful. I had the chickenpox vacine twice and still got the chickenpox when I was 27yrs old from a friends little boy. The doctor told me then that I could get the shingles later in life and having seen what my Dad and BIL went through with pain I pray that I never get them. Hope you feel better soon.
Sunny-thanks for the chedder biscuts sound so good.
Everyone have a great day filled with blessings.

Oh cripe.......my huge long post disappeared before I was finished.

    The short version...

2 inches of snow on the ground with more coming down. Got caught in a white out on the interstate. So much for our "dusting" of snow predicted.

A dang squirrel jumped out at me when I went into the janitor's storage room to put salt on the icy sidewalk at the office.

The shingles myth I was referring to: If the shingles form a complete circle around your chest / back, you die within 2 weeks of the ends of the rash meeting.

had shingles in a complete circle at my bra line for over a year spanning ages 47 and 48. Never had chicken pox as a kid because I was kept away from other kids due to respiratory illnesses. (The school gave me a tutor at home for most of second grade.)

@ Oliviaunt.............You are more than welcome to send Flat Stanley to me. Let me know if you want my address.

I had one a few years ago from the daughter of my brother's neighbor in California. Stanley went to the Avenue of 444 Flags, Reyers (the largest shoe store in the world), a preschool, and a senior center.

You all remind me of a news story. These people had a lawn ornament stolen from their front yard, it was a small one, I think a gnome (Or maybe Grumpy the dwarf). About a year later it reappeared on the lawn with a plastic bag around the neck. Inside was a slew of pictures, with little thing everywhere. Sitting on Lincoln's lap in D.C., Disney World, , in front of Buckingham Palace, next to one of those guards, Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, the Alamo in San Antonio, a Vegas hotel, even Mardi Gras in New Orleans. The people had no idea who took it, but that little guy had a huge adventure, for sure. LOL

    Late afternoon hello,
I just have to add to the Flat Stanley comments today, My neice Erin's class sent out Flat Stanley's I got him for a while here and Hubby took him all over the counrty on business trips, boy was she a hit at he school in the middle of nowhere North Dakota... :rotfl:
Then Alex's class did Stanley... he sent Stanley up to North Dakota.... and then my neice took him on her travels cross counrty to her new job in Calif and then Seattle... The little boy does get around!!
We still have the scrap book that Stanley compiled of his travels...

And are shingles not part of the chickenpox family?? My BIL gets flair-ups when he is under a great deal of stress and his system is weakened..
    Fell better soon.

My granddaughter sent Flat Stanley to me a couple of years ago. He helped us do all kinds of things here on the ranch.
Barb, I remember that gnome story and how it was stolen and went around the world, returning with pictures. Funny. Wow, you and your husband both had really awful cases of shingles!
Squirrel, you had shingles without ever having had chicken pox? I didn't know that was possible. And boy, did you ever have a long-running case of it! What a bad break, to not be able to take the meds! I thought I was the only one who suffered through things for that reason. But thankfully, I was able to take the anti-virals. Watch out for those jumping squirrels. It probably wanted you for a squirrelly friend.
Jammers, good to see you. Have fun with your "brother!"

I visited my sis at the hospital today and took some papers we both needed to sign. It was a break for us that hospitals usually have a notary public in their offices. This one was kind enough to come down to my sister's room so we were able to get our business done.
