Good morning. A neighbor told me I had some cows out in the road a couple of days ago so I need to go check out the fence and see what needs to be done. He said they came out through the creek and that it probably washed out with all the rain we'd had earlier.

Wishing everyone a good day. I'll check in later.

Good morning. @Old Cowgirl - I have such great memories of going out and checking the cattle with my grandfather, helping him round up the stray ones that got on the other side of the fence. As a kid it was fun but as an adult, probably an annoyance. Good luck.

@SHANRICK - sad to hear that a person was killed but glad all the kids were reunited with their families. I'm sure there will be lots of hugs tonight for a lot of parents.

Have been keeping in touch with my parents and sisters and keeping up to date on the fires back home. To date there have been 5 properties destroyed and some buildings on some farms and ranches. The good news is that winds have died down and they were to get some rain last night so that will help in getting a bit more control of things. I guess with this fire it has been hard to predict where it's path is because as it's been explained it breaks out like fingers and spreads so it is going in every direction.

This is my Friday as I have tomorrow off so looking after a cousins two little girls tonight while they go out for dinner, tomorrow I will be prepping the walls in our den to paint, clearing out the furniture in the den and ripping up the carpet to have hardwood installed on Monday. After a year and a few months it's exciting that we are doing our first big change.

Well, the floors are not a big change as it is throughout the main floor but once the den is done it will be the same flooring and connect the den with the rest. Saturday is a yard day so will cut back the clamatas, day lillies, prune the trees and bushes and hopefully clean out our garage. When we made the decision to put our tent trailer up on kijiji, we just unpacked and threw everything in the garage so it's mess.

Hope y'all have a good day and great weekend and may the lives of those who have been affected by the storms, fires and anything else that is going on in their lives that is stressful or traumatic, find a bright spot.

Good Morning everyone!

Well our low today was predicted to be 73F so of course it was 84F. Just like yesterday was predicted to be 104F but rose to 108F. I am so over summer, hot weather, cloudless days and heat!! Sigh, deep breath, sorry. I remember September was the best month because autumnal changes started, the air was crisp & clean, and the frost usually appeared signaling the holidays were coming. Time to refocus on memories for now.

The fires here have devastated Montana friends. They lost their home, barn, feeders, grain towers, and much of their crops. It is devastating! They are heart broken, shocked, depressed but determined to overcome it all. Westerners have a fierce determination to not let the elements, weather or disease hold them back. It may take them decades to achieve their former status because livestock are expensive replacements. Breaks my heart.

Glad to see so much help being sent to Houston and Florida for recovery efforts now. Americans have compassionate generous hearts, and for the most part donate time, skill, possessions and money to help anyone who suffered from these hurricanes. How anyone can chose to be paid by a charity to assist them is beyond my understanding. Samaritan's Purse does not do that and just one reason I love this charity!

OC: good luck rounding up your stray cattle and bringing them back to your fields. Seems like you could use a fence mender roam your property once a month to repair breaches. Do you ever catch the cattle playing? Most people I know are surprised when I share with them that dairy cattle love to play, have different personalities, and can be very affectionate. Hope your day goes smoothly, easily, and without any more glitches.

Muzza: wow, I admire your achieving spirit! What a to-do list you have made for yourself. I do love a home with matching hardwood floors from door to door. It sounds like it will be a beautiful den when completed. I also enjoy hearing your farm early memories because, like me, they form the basis of our character and heart. Enjoy your long weekend!

JS: Yes, and the nursing home scandal in Hollywood, Florida is also grievous!! Those poor helpless elderly people who died of dehydration, heat exposure, and suffered greatly without anyone taking steps to help them!! If any nurses worked there, and they usually at least give medications. They should be ashamed of themselves for not doing something to help them! Or alerting police, health officials, or the governor's office. I cried over this story and it was the talk of the hospital yesterday.

Shan: hug your little granddaughter extra this weekend!

Take care everyone! Blessings to you all.

Oh, JS, I had not read that about the hospital!! That is horrific and totally irresponsible, not to mention cold and heartless!! Nursing is a compassionate field and I agree their licenses should be revoked. Also the owners/managers of the nursing home should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. My heart goes out to the grieving families who must be totally bewildered at how this could even happen to their loved one!!:sad:

Morning Friends,

Cool for now, but supposed to get into the 80's again today.

I'm working from home as the plumber was here this morning to put in the water heater. It's all new and shiny. Wish it was for my part of the house, but it will be eventually. That all looks good, but the plumber did break the glass in the back storm door. However he took it straight from here to a local glass place to have it fixed and they'll bring it back once completed. So that's good news, I almost feel a bit guilty as I'm sure the glass in that door is ancient old. I'm 75% certain the door in the back is original to the house as the intricate carvings in the door match some hidden woodwork in Gena's closet.

OC - good luck catching your cattle and getting the fence fixed

Muzz - enjoy the long weekend, and I hope all the home projects don't turn up any unexpected surprises.

Noel - I'm so with you on being ready to move onto fall.

JS - the tragedies in Washington and that Florida nursing home are just terrible, they both make me ill.

Hope today is a better day for this whole darn world.

Manda: glad you are having a good water heater repair experience. I am delighted to hear about a workman who actually replaces something they break! Anyway you will enjoy the new water heater when the house is all yours again! Just love old hard wood carvings/engravings. A real treasure now and the joy of an older home. Enjoy!

Good morning. It's another nice day here, for a change. I missed my little resident lizard for a few days, but she is back. I can see she is shedding her skin, so maybe that is why she's been hiding a lot, lol.

Take care people!

Morning all.

Like Noel, I saw next week's weather and thought OMG, it is almost time to open up the house at night. But alas, if this morning was any sample of what the next week will bring, it'll be nope. Another week of 24/7 A/C. The drive for the office A/C unit went out. They were able to get it fixed around noon. But with sealed windows it was really stuffy yesterday.

Had a great Bonsai Club meeting last night. One of our members talked about adeniums and how to care for them. They aren't truly bonsai but when you live in the desert, you are limited with what you can use. The attached picture is NOT one of our club's. Mine are all just leggy, leafy things. They have passed flowering time, care, water 2-3 times a week.

When you hear that the first COLD rain is coming, mid to late November, you bring them in before the rain, put them in a safe dark place in your garage and after the 2nd night in a row when the overnight low is 50 degrees and frost worries have left, late March you bring them out, repot and trim. The perfect lazy person's plant.

I can say that the nursing home news is bringing up unpleasant nightmares for me. How could they?? How could they not check on people?? I get that the staff had their own families and homes to check on. But really, you couldn't check on the people placed in your care?? You couldn't call for help??

Almost as bad as Marriott Hotel who sent a boat to pick up people stranded on the islands in the Caribbean and ONLY picked up people who could prove they stayed at their hotel. Took half filled boats to an island less damaged so those folks could get food/water and arrange for passage home. Left others waiting for some other something to help them. They are still waiting.

Okay, off to work.

Happy Thursday.

KT: glad your little lizard is back playing in your yard. They are so cute. I insist no one harm the lizards on our fences, yards, or homes. The best part is they eat the yucky bugs! Have a nice Thursday!

Robin: Yep, we've got the A/C blues! I'm at 7 months and counting. Glad your A/C was fixed rather quickly as stuffy is a nice word for you endured yesterday. I enjoy your bonsai/plant teaching and pictures. Those are really beautiful for a lazy person's plant. I might just give it a try too! Hope your evening is peaceful and relaxing. As for the nursing home, the only words that come to mind as this point are not printable and my tears still flow.

Manda, some of the nursing home personnel may be getting jail time. Just saw that people in another nursing home in the area were similarly neglected.

Wasn't there a hospital (New Orleans?), whose staff stayed with patients during Katrina's horror? True heroes!

Robin, thankfully Marriot's behavior has not been universally bad. Read some letters of praise for their generosity during the storm. Local management decisions, I guess.

I wonder if we will be seeing some lessening of population density in vulnerable areas. Nah, who am I kidding?

It's been a long week and I can't wait for it to be over. Now for the healing to begin. This city is coming together and helping everyone we can.

My daughter has decided to home school! JS is right when it doesn't take anything but signing her out of the district. The state doesn't care until they are 8 years old and then they will come looking for them to test occasionally. Sad I think but everyone Coley has talked to say they have never been questioned or ask to be tested.

JS - you are so right on about they should lose their license. That is just sick! They should never be aloud to work as care givers in any way.

Shan: Bravo to your daughter for deciding to home school. We talk about it too because they no longer teach civics, much history or basic fundamental skills. The violence prompts me to consider quit working, living on little, but prepping the children for a wise life.

Thank you, Noel. She graduated in June with her Masters in History and French and is taking this year off from teaching at the University to raise the baby. She had toyed with the idea all summer and has been researching on it and after yesterday decided it was time. Thankfully her husband is making enough that she can do it now.

Another sunny, warm day here. Low in the 80s. It's supposed to be nice until early
next week when rain is in forecast.

I'm going to ask for suggestions to help me with the digger in my flowerbed. I'm not
planning to put new mulch out until spring, dog hair doesn't work and I know the cat
needs to be outside at night. Since the cat was inside last night, digger decided to play
in the new mulch.
I'm not sure what's digging in the flowerbed, probably an armadillo.

Another busy day at school. I found out today the books that were added Tues had
had the wrong reading level. Program has a flaw and I found out today. All
fixed now.

Shan, I'm glad it's possible your daughter can teach Ember at home. I hope she can find
other home school kids Ember's age and they can do activities together.

Muzzaman, sorry to hear your family lost some buildings because of the fires. I'm glad the
weather changed to help
. I've been praying.

OC, I hope you found the fence that needs mending.

Noel and robin, wishing you a cooler weekend.

manda, I'm glad the new water is in. Have you evicted your tenant yet?

I hope everyone has a good rest of the day.

Hi everyone. It has been a long long day at school with many problems. I'm finishing my work, and going home to sleep off a migraine.

Shanrick - your daughter will be great at home schooling. It is just a shame that a tragedy had to be a factor in her decision making. Prayers going up for your town.

Good afternoon all, Weird day as it seemed overcast, but then hazy sun, was 82 in town. Got nearly everything done, except one thing, but it was minor.

I read the story about the nursing home, and it seems that the nursing home keep calling EMT's as patients were having trouble breathing. The patients died in the hospital. Except one. Most on 2nd floor. Seems when the electric went off, their back up generator was not really doing the job it was supposed to do. And yes, the patients could have been taken earlier to a nearby hospital. As it is, all of them were taken, there was something like 200-300 or something. A huge number. The nursing home CLAIMS it kept calling the electric company.....but would imagine that place was flooded. I was astounded at the number of nursing homes, and the huge number of people in them, plus assisted living. But then, Florida does have a majority of seniors. It is all too sad.

Right now, it looks again like it is going to rain. Trees are changing color quickly, wow. I do hope there is mild weather for all. OC, I remember when I lived in Illinois, every once in a while, a cow would be mooing under my window (farms all around out little sub-division, now huge suburb) .

OC: oh my what a huge project to re-fence your pastures! I have no idea the cost but it will be high.:eek:Sure hope the weather cools soon here in the southwest. Cattle can always find shade, so glad they stayed off the road.

Poirot: good news your errands were completed and those projects off your list. At lunch I saw a press conference by the hospital on the nursing home patients. It is more complIcated than originally reported but accountability needs enforcement.

OC: you asked about my ears. The specialist had to use a scalpel to remove wax from my canals as it was stuck to the walls. Diabetics can have sugary-sticky wax as they grow older. My Dad did and evidently so do I now. In two weeks my hearing will be tested to check for conductive hearing loss. No one wants to have the wax removed by scalpel: trust me it hurts and bled for a couple days.
