I'm sorry if this has already been discussed and I missed it, but I'm wondering what is up with Abby? It seems like her manipulative behavior has just come out of nowhere... unless I missed something. I know that her behavior is annoying, gross and eye-rolling, but isn't it sort of out-of-place, as well? I guess they needed to have some reason for Austin to take Carrie back so readily, but really? This just seems arbitrary. Thoughts?

Yes they needed to give Austin a reason to forgive Carrie quickly. Having him think he slept with little Abbie is a good way to do that... but I must say although Abbie seems a little off her rocker lately... I do feel sorry for her, she seems truely crushed. I hope they don't turn her into Jan Sprears crazy... Austin is kinda pissing me off, he THINKS he slept with a young impressionable girl and he just leaves her out to dry? He has not tried to talk with Abbie about what happened at all. Instead he is groveling to his wife to let him fix things and not even telling her what really happened. Although we all know he really did not sleep with Abbie, he thinks he did.

Abbie is really losing touch with reality. Hate the bit with Austin....yuck! Could be interesting if she has mental health issues like her Grandma Laura so I am reserving the right to change my mind. If they go that route the story would've been stronger had she lost it over Melanie and Chad.

She is nuts. Marlena needs to get in her head.

^I agree. A Marlena getting in her head storyline would be way better than the Abby Austin crap they have goin right now.

Abby has lost touch with reality and walking that fine line of fantasy. Her manipulations are surprising........disappointing..........and will cause more trouble for Jack & Jenn!

It looks and sounds to me as if Abby is starting to believe her own lie for herself. To know that you lied about what happened, then be mad at the wife of the person you have a crush on, and go as far as to sit and talk to her about the situation (without specifics) IN FRONT of your own father and the mean you are crushing on/lying to, just ummmm is all I can say. Definitely shows the younger, immature side of Abby and that she still has a good amount of growing up to do.

Yes, thats the fantasy. She's living in it ..........not just pretending. And that is destructive and scary.

C'mon, they can't "fix" Abigail until she ruins Austin's marriage.

Well it's a good thing Marlena isn't Abby's step mother.

And Jack is going to figure something out with the way he saw Abby looking at Austin.

They actually could've done a far more interesting story had they decided to show that Abby had inherited the mental illness that runs in her mother's side of the family and that this was how it began to manifest itself. Then they could have shown how a young person with mental illness is diagnosed and treated.

But then again, this is the show that had a woman who had her heart REMOVED and then put back into her chest, hopping around her hospital room within a week and wearing V-neck shirts and showing no scar within a month. So I doubt they could accurately portray a young person suffering from mental illness.

Yes, I so agree Just Samantha! Unless that's the end game, this is totally out of the blue for Abby.

I could be wrong, but I thought that Laura Horton suffered from a deep depression, not necessarily a mental illness. She was not bi-polar, schizophrenic, or anything like that. She was sent to the sanitarium and given tranquilizers, or sedated or something. Vivian is the one who to stop her taking the pills and get back to herself, thus she was fine when she came back to Salem.

There is NO tendency toward mental illness for Abby to inherit. Admittedly, she has become very delusional in a very short period of time...but this is not inherited.

Laura's mother was mentally ill, as was Laura.

There was a time when Jennifer was a teenager that she was afraid she'd suffer the from the same mental illness of her Grandmother and Laura (who was in a mental institution during that time period).

When they revisited Laura in the mental institution (when Jamie Lyn Bauer started playing her), it was sort of tweaked that she was in that condition because she was being drugged. But the original storyline was that she was mentally ill, like her mother.

And sometimes, mental illnesses run in a family.

This is from Beth's Days of Our Lives Page website (about Laura's mental illness):

Laura's mother, Carrie, had been a paranoid schizophrenic since Laura's childhood. It was her mother's condition that had driven Laura to become a psychiatrist in the first place. In 1979, Carrie finally committed suicide in her hospital room. Her mother's death and Bill's non-affair with Kate took a heavy toll on Laura. She began acting very strangely towards people she knew and loved. When Julie William's face was burned in an explosion, Laura told Julie that Doug would never love her again and encouraged her to divorce him. She also put little Jennifer on a cross-country bus thinking that she'd be safer that way. Though Jennifer was rescued, Laura just plunged deeper into insanity. She began to suffer from hallucinations; she constantly heard her mother's voice, telling her that she was "losing control." Finally, the voice told her to kill herself. Laura tried to hang herself, but was saved in the nick of time by Bill. After being placed in Lakewood Sanitarium, Laura became catatonic.

Here is something from Jennifer's character history on Beth's Page:

During this time, Laura Horton, Jennifer's mother, began suffering relapses. Not fully aware of what her mother suffered from, Jennifer was overwhelmed when she was told that her mother was schizophrenic. She was also told that her grandmother (Carrie Spencer, not Alice!) had also been schizophrenic, and that the illness was sometimes hereditary. Fearing that she, too, would become mentally ill, Jennifer pushed Frankie away to spare him the pain of seeing her ill. Of course, she didn't tell Frankie any of this, so he had no idea why he was getting the cold shoulder all of the sudden. Jennifer merely told him that things had changed and that their relationship wouldn't work out. After getting nowhere with Jennifer, Frankie reluctantly moved out and broke up with her. Jennife was broken up about it, but she remained confident that what she was doing was the best thing for everyone concerned. Despite her choice, she watched over Frankie, and became jealous when he began working long hours with his professor Paula Carson at the Teen Hotline. Meanwhile, Jennifer befriended another student on campus, Alan Brand. Jennifer only saw Alan as a friend and opened up to him about her problems with Frankie, unaware that Alan wanted more than a friendship.

o.k. THANKS, JS. I said "I could be wrong" and I was. Laura was already gone when I began watching, so I only saw Jen visit her a couple of times, and we never saw her face, just the figure that was staring straight ahead. I knew she suffered because of Bill's affair, tho, and he did have one.
And if Abby HAS developed any sort of mental illness, she will have to be on meds, probably the rest of her life to keep things under control. So, I really hope they do not go there with Abby.

Like I said, done accurately, they could've done a really great story of a young person grappling with a mental illness and the subsequent treatment, but I doubt Days could do a story like that any justice. She'd either be carted off to a mental hospital and never mentioned again; or go on medication, never have any other issues and it would be forgotten.

I agree that this is out of the blue although she has been caught up in fantasy for awhile. And I agree completely that Austin is a schmuck! He is supposedly an adult (although in Salem that doesn't mean much) and he should have gone back to Abby and talked to her about it, especially hearing how difficult this has been for her.

This is going to blow up in Austin's face sooooo badly.

I can see Carrie blowing a gasket when she finds out that he "slept" with Abby (that he thinks) and stood there with her while trying to help Abby through her broken heart.

And I wonder how long it will be before everyone finds out that Abby made up the entire thing?
