Happy Days are over, as the gloom, misery and despair takes over Salem once again. Thank goodness, we had the Steve/Kayla wedding! Julie hangs up the phone, is in shock, unable to talk, but finally blurts out that it was Scotty on the phone, Julie's son, David was killed instantly in a motorcycle accident. She wails about always telling him those things were dangerous. Doug holds her, Hope offers words of comfort, but Abe & Valerie are there as well, and she is in shock, takes off.
Doug & Rafe have called everyone they can think of, Doug is taking Julie home. She wants to rest. Abe goes in search of Valerie.
Valerie sits on a park bench (yep, that gorgeous February winter weather means no one needs a coat, etc. Marlena happens by, stops and sits with her, is told about David, remembers Valerie used to date him. They have a nice talk, and just as it seems Valerie is going to tell Marlena some secret, along comes Abe, Marlena leaves, Abe says he forgot that Valerie & David dated once. He is sorry, she really wants to be by herself for a while. Abe leaves.
Adrienne is walking past the alley, sees Paul sprawled out, rushes over, he is bleeding from a head injury, she will take him to hospital. No, he tells her of Sonny being grabbed, how he saw Sonny trying to fight the guys off, joined in, got knocked out, they took Sonny. She realizes it is this dang war, tries to call Justin, he doesn't answer, she remembers he is in court. Paul is insistent he is o.k., they have to help Sonny, & Adrienne insists they go confront Deimos.
Brady has come in the living room at the Kmansion, looking for Nicole, Deimos says she is with Justin. They argue a bit, Brady figures Deimos is too confident, and accuses him of bribing the judge. Deimos says he did what he had to do.
At the courthouse, Chloe has to turn Holly over to Child Protective Services woman, who will be holding her until after the hearing. Justin & Belle both get word that the proceedings have been moved to the judges' chambers. No one but the two women, two lawyers, judge & court steno can be there. Deimos WAS going to be in the court, no matter what, is not happy about being told no dice.
Rafe & Hope are somewhere, in a club, it is rather empty, but they want to relax and celebrate her return to Salem. Music plays, they dance, kiss.
At the hearing, it seems Judge Duncan is replacing Judge Pierce, who recused himself. Seems Belle's investigators found phone communication between Deimos & the judge, and when the judge realized the proof, he recused himself. Belle gives Justin copies of all the phone calls the judge had, incoming and outgoing.
And now Belle goes first. Acknowledges that Chloe was surrogate, with Nicole & Daniel's permission. Then Daniel died. Chloe tries 2nd time, successful. Then she proceeds to drag Nik thru the mud, the porn film, stealing another child to pass off as her own, stabbing a man, refusing to break it off with a dangerous man like Deimos Kiriakis. She recites a lot,, including the bacterial infection. Nicole is getting very upset, was upset about Deimos talking with Judge Pierce, did not know.
Judge says she accepts they did not know. More dragging Nicole thru the mud, Judge overrules Justin's objections, but he finally gets his chance, talks of Nik & Chloe being best friends, that despite Chloe's past as a prostitute, they were grateful she agreed to be the surrogate. He mentions how Nik saved Chloe's life, drove thru blizzard to get her to safety, delivered the baby, and got her to hospital, and yet despite all of that Chloe never once told her good friend Holly was her baby. Chloe protests, she had a stroke. Justin counters with her not telling when she was over it? Finally, the judge leaves to go over it all. Before she leaves, Nicole makes a tearful plea, trying to keep herself together, but not too successful.
Over at the Kmansion, Adrienne & Paul burst in, she rants at Deimos. He avoids, tries to blame others, tries to say no proof Sonny was kidnapped, but Adrienne will not be put off. Paul was there, he saw Sonny attacked. Brady joins the fray, telling Deimos to fix this. Words are flying back and forth, fast and furious. Adrienne wants to know where Chad & Gabi are, for Deimos to release them, she knows about the tech device, him wanting the key, how it is useless without it. He tries to deflect, even accusing her of wanting a big story, offering to buy the Spectator, give them a good price. Adrienne will not be put off, and neither will Brady. He warns Deimos to "fix" this.
The judge has returned, everyone waits expectantly. She had a lot to go over, to consider, but has reached a decision.
