At the Teen apartment, Ciara declares Claire (who was checking out a friend's selfies) the most selfish person she knows. They need to get ready for David's funeral. (Claire states David was Ciara's first cousin, and her second.) They snipe at each other.

At the Pub, Julie speaks with Hope on the phone. Hope can't make it to the funeral. Doug and Maggie have arrived, learn that Hope has food poisoning. Doug thinks Julie should leave to have some private time to say goodby; she worries she's not worthy. We learn David was a rambler, didn't stick around in one place long enough to put down roots, she blames herself, and giving him up for adoption. (We are reminded that she was a teen, his father had died, and she got him back.) Maggie sympathises with losing a child, wanting one more minute with their child. Julie laments giving him up, feels David resents her. She regrets focusing on Doug after David left town. She always thought there'd be more time; now he's gone. How can she grieve, when she let her son down?

At the Hospital, Abe learns that Valerie will be checking on Chad and then zipping out of town. It's meant a lot to them to get to know each other again; Valerie misses her son and needs to get back to her life. Abe offers to escort her to the funeral, she doesn't need it, and isn't sure why she took David's death so hard. Valerie is surprised to learn that Theo will miss her, tells Abe he deserves to find someonte special. He thought he had. He leaves; she calls her son to arrange a dinner.

At TBD, Dario and Eduardo talk about Gabi's recovery (she'll be fine) and the war. Kate comes upon them, asking Eduardo how dare he. She's furious that he worked with André to kidnap Sonny (whom she calls her family) behind her back. Sonny wasn't supposed to be hurt, Sonny's fine now and the guard will be dismissed, Eduardo assures her. Everything's OK. Nope, says Kate. Ed points out that Kate would have done the same thing in his position, this shouldn't change the fact that they're destined to be together. Later, Dario is sorry that Ed's lost his chance with Kate, Ed thinks Kate's worth it, but it will be tough. Dario talks about wanting to protect Abby from the way they found Chad/Gabi; Eduardo is curious about Dario's interest in Gabi. He says they are just friends, he doesn't want his friends hurt.

In Chad's hospital room, Abby is thrilled that Chad is awake, relays her worry of the past few days to how he must have felt during the time she was missing. Valerie comes in, introduces herself (Chad and Valerie talk about Theo a bit), needs to do an exam. Abby decides to leave, Chad says they'll finish their talk. Later, Abby returns; they talk about how she found & saved him. Chad fesses up about the closeness, Abby is fine with it, if they'd been alone, they'd have died. Chad admits kissing Gabi. Nothing more than kissing; Abby suspected as much, was told hypothermia could affect their thinking. She knows he's committed to them, and to Thomas. She's good. They hug, Abby has a worried one-shot.

At the police station, JJ and Lani talk about the turf wars; JJ won't let them skate next time something like this happens. They talk about Gabi being OK; JJ thinks they make a good team, Lani is planning to head back to Miami - she has turned down Roman's offer. He suggested her; he likes having her around, thinks they work well together. He's going to represent his family at the funeral, Lani tags along to support her dad.

Later at the Pub, Ciara gives "grandma" a hug, they talk about how Julie helped Ciara when Hope was gone, and for Hope when she was young. Claire comes in, weepy, gives Julie a hug. The teens remind her that she never forgot about him. Claire wants Julie to tell her stories about him; Ciara suggests they go to the Church. Everyone's getting choked up (yours truly included over here); she hugs her girls, and they leave.

At the Church, Valerie is standing at David's coffin, remembering how they fought so hard to be together, how they vowed their love would last. But it didn't; she's so sorry she didn't tell him or Eli the truth. Abe has overheard. He apologises for the interruption. Julie and team enter, she thanks Valerie for coming, laments that Valerie and David didn't stay together.

In the private area, Abby visits her shrine and laments that she let everyhone think she was dead. She attacks the statue and knocks it over before collapsing in tears. Dario comes upon her, comforts her. They talk about the shock of finding Chad & Gabi, and the kiss, which Abby realises Dario knew about. They relay Chad & Gabi's hospital moans for the other; Abby blames herself for faking her own death. Chad moved on, he can't just forget what's happening with Gabi. Meanwhile, Chad has flashbacks to Abby's early return, trying to move on. Back at the fallen statue, Abby and Dario discuss what she plans to do; she feels it's the right thing to set him free. Dario doesn't want to see Gabi to get hurt, but he has a feeling Chad will forgive Abby. She thanks Dario for being a good friend and they hug; Dario gets a pensive one-shot.

Julie apologies to David for being a bad mother while Doug watches. When she's said her peace, he comforts her, and she thanks him for forcing her to come. Meanwhile Ciara and Claire have made up; JJ and Lani arrive and they talk with Theo about Valerie leaving. Maggie thanks Valerie for coming, she remembers how important Valerie was to David. She and Maggie talk about sons, Maggie'd love to see a picture of Valerie's son (Valerie has no photos on her phone). Valerie goes to say good-by to Theo; Maggie wishes she could stay in Salem.

Abby comes into Chad's hospital room, climbs into his bed. He's holding a piece of jewelry.

At the funeral, Valerie is finishing a call with a patient, will check in with the MD following up. She turns to leave, Eli is there. What are you doing here?

"I came to bury my father," replies Eli.

I do think they should get rid of that angel in the park or at the very least remove the in memory of plaque. Knew Dario would show up. Well at least he didn't encourage her to leave Chad and let him be with Gabi.

Pretty cool that Eli knew. Now hopefully he and Valerie stay in town.

Seems like something is gonna develop between Lani and JJ. Det. JJ. So funny. Man, use to hate that kid when he was so mean to Daniel. Has Lani had interaction with Abe since she's been back?

Eli must be pretty good when it comes to investigating, I take it. I'm just glad the reveal isn't going to take 3 or 4 months. It was already spoiled outside of the spoiler section of forums so majority knew this was going to happen. I am just sitting back waiting for Julie's big eyes to pop out tomorrow! LOL!

At the end, Chad is holding part of a flower, not jewelry. When that flashback was going on of him & Gabi, with "their" song playing, he looked up at a vase of yellow flowers, with some tiny purple ones, shaped like, but much tinier than lilacs. Cannot think of their name right now. He reached up and touched one.

Claire is a true selfish brat. My opinion.

Julie really did a good job today, though I don't know why she was beating herself up so badly.

Glad JJ was able to come, because, Julie is a Horton, and the older Hortons were noticeably absent. Maggie was only a Horton by marriage, Hope conveniently got food poisoning.......was it the s'mores? :sarcasm: And Jen is out of town "on an assignment"??

Thank you, Jason...!

No, this is actually an incontrovertible fact. As for other Salemites today, just a few comments.

Hope: Perhaps, it's being cynical, but was she really too ill to attend the funeral or was she "otherwise engaged" with Rafe?

Julie: If she wants to wallow in guilt, she ought to get together with a real professional in this area -- sourpuss Eric.

Abe: Pity the poor mayor. Perhaps, he and Roman should form a support group for lovelorn older men.

Eduardo (a man who remarkably is too slimy even for Kate): Should he and his thuggish son really sit in TBD wearing black-leather jackets? This could scare away potential customers who might think they've blundered into a bar that caters to Salem's criminal classes.

Dario: Just what is this sleaze's appeal to emotionally-distraught women? Perhaps, he should print up business cards listing himself as a professional criminal and a shoulder to cry on.

Abigail's Angel: Chad should donate it to St. Luke's. Even for Salem a memorial to a woman who is still alive was a bit much.

Lots of guilt going on among Salemites!

Just Samantha, I was thinking the same thing, about Claire being first cousin, once removed.

Yes, Claire is a selfish brat. I loved the way Dr.BakerFan put it, "an incontrovertible fact."

I hope to watch in a little while. Thanks for the writeup, Jason.

David and Ciara would be first cousins, as Julie and Hope are sisters (well, half-sisters). But Claire would've been David's first cousin, once removed, right?
That's correct. That's why I mentioned it. I volunteer from 2-6 and didn't get back to the computer until now. However (as KathyLu likes to point out), colloquial usage often merges first cousins once removed with second cousins, though they remain legally distinct in all 50 US States.
Lavender.
AH, I knew it had something to do with Gabi. I am so not interested in this storyline.

Otherwise I thought the episode was great - really great. Julie is a powerhouse. The teens were well-used after their dumb bickering was over. The only thing I would have changed is that there was no reason to blah blah blah about that dead orange character. I also don't like how Days handles adoption like it's evil or something. But it was a nice history nod, talking about David and Valerie and David and Julie.

I do still hope that David is really alive, and either faked his death for some reason or was mistakenly identified as having died.

Too much to hope that Hope got food poisoning from those dumb chocolates Rafe gave her? And she can never forgive him?

Thanks Jason.

Did Kate poison Hope because she wants Rafe back? :)

I enjoyed Abby hitting the angel. I'm glad it's finally gone.

I was surprised to see David actually having a funeral with a casket
since he hasn't been in town for awhile.

My question is where is Scotty? Didn't he call Julie to tell her his dad
died? Why isn't he at the funeral?

Great ending with Eli showing up knowing who David is
.

I wondered the same thing, kat. Since Scotty was the one to call Julie, you'd think he would've been there. Or at the very least, a throwaway line of "Scotty's plane is delayed in XYZ city".

I would actually love this!! LOL

WORD UP. And nary a mention of why he couldn't be there.

Honestly, while it was said that David was killed instantly in a motorcycle accident, wonder why he was not buried where he was living? But, o.k. I do understand going "home" to be buried. Guess David had no friends or caring family there, did he?

I was really happy with Julie's conversation with Valerie, very caring and concerned. Though I am sure, despite the small reference to past history, lots of newer viewers are still going..."huh". It might have helped if there had been some earlier reference, but I think maybe we will be getting a couple small doses of long ago story now that Eli has arrived.

Thanks for the summary. Sounds like a good show. What a shocker that Eli knew the truth. OK, him knowing the truth itself may not be surprising, but the fact that he revealed he knew immediately--rather than it dragging out for several months--is surprising.

Claire is indeed a selfish brat. Why is she always on her phone? Can she leave Salem? I'd rather have the sourpuss Eric in town than her!

Hope got food poisoning? HA! More like she decided it was more important to stay home with Rafe. Sorry, not buying it.

Shame on Dario for telling Abby to stay with Chad! Break them up already! No reason for them to remain together, in my opinion, besides Thomas. Even then, as many Salem couples have demonstrated, it's possible to be divorced and still raise kids. I am glad that Abby destroyed that silly statue at last. Long overdue.
