I missed a bit of DAYS in the past due to being a working girl and have forgotten so much alot, so I too enjoy the Stefano/Marlena flashbacks. It certainly appears they had a passionate past relationship. Did they really love each other at some point?
 
No, they never "loved each other". Stefano has been obsessed with Marlena for decades, but she's had nothing but hatred for him. When he was kissing her leg, she was pretending to seduce him while waiting for the drugs to kick in (that she dumped in his drink). When she went with him through the wardrobe, she was in a trance.
 
When Stefano was in a wheelchair and had amnesia, I recall Marlena nursing him back to health as he had become a nice person. Didn't Doc, start to fall in love with him? Of course Stefano regained his memory and was faking amnesia until Marlena found out.
