Days of Our Lives - Tues., Aug. 19, 2014

Nor was it Kristen's place to kidnap Daniel to try to get to Brady--Daniel reacted to that situation by doing something about it instead of sitting around hoping someone would eventually rescue him (which, among other things, would have been extremely boring.) He didn't go to St. Louis to chase Kristen and her goons. He went to St. Louis to present papers at a medical conference. While I could have done without this story altogether, it wasn't a story about someone chasing Kristen--it was about Kristen causing trouble with someone whose strength she underestimated.
You see, this is why my issue is not with Daniel; it is with the writers/TPTB. It is understandable that Daniel would react in self-defense and bring back this woman who tortured his friends. It does NOT make sense that the writers would have Daniel be her kidnapping victim instead of someone like Nicole, Theresa, or possibly even Brady or Eric.

This goes back to writing for the character. Story/plot wise, it made absolutely no sense for Kristen to kidnap Daniel. What purpose in advancing the story did it serve? NONE! The only thing that resulted from it was Daniel once again being the hero with literally everyone in town singing his praises for bringing Kristen in. From the beginning, I hoped it would be Nicole, Theresa, or Brady that Kristen would take because those people would actually fit the story that was being told. Those interactions would have actually been more entertaining to watch (although Kristen beating Daniel with that mop bucket was pretty darn funny). I'm not blaming the character or the actor, I'm blaming TPTB for finding ways to insert Daniel into EVERY situation to set him up as this heroic figure in the end.

I agree that it made absolutely NO sense for Kristen to kidnap Daniel and that Brady, Theresa, or even Nicole would have made much more sense. I think the writers/TPTB wanted a reason for these two actors to be in story together. From a viewer's perspective, they failed miserably. I'm almost surprised there was no sex between the two, as I half expected there to be.

Re: Daniel playing hero or whatever, it was understandable from the standpoint of this storyline given what the circumstances were. When I first heard about him being the one Kristen was going to kidnap I shuddered at the possibility of Jennifer coming to Daniel's rescue.:sick::sick: I'm glad it played out the way it did rather than another Dan/Jen makeup.

I think Daniel was a little upset with Eric when he told him he wasn't going
to be a priest again. I think that was the main reason, Super Dan brought Kristen
back. I hope Daniel isn't going to hate Nicole more for Eric's decision.

I enjoyed Hope and Aiden. They both like each other, but can't admit
to themselves or each other yet.

Nice to see Parker back in Salem.

I agree, Sparkster. I thought the scenes with Kristen and Daniel in the hotel room looked like a bad porn movie setup and I did not like that at all. I thought Kristen was going to go for becoming a serial rapist  Thank G-d they did not go there.

I did think Daniel would realize Nicole was not so bad as a result of Kristen's actions and of him defending Nicole's behavior to Kristen a couple times, and I'm really disappointed that the writers are insisting on continuing this contrived (in my opinion) conflict between them instead. I feel like TPTB are saying, "A lot of fans like Daniel with Nicole. Well we're going to make Daniel be obnoxious to Nicole for NO GOOD REASON---so there!!!"

On a slightly tangential topic, today when Jen was apologizing to Eric for having been Kristen's friend, it suddenly dawned on me that when she was accusing Daniel of being easily manipulated, she was talking about herself.

They probably did film things that just didn't make it. Wonder why they took them out though, and also why they still released spoilers about it? Strange.

A few weeks ago, SOD also posted a statement in the WEEKLY RECAP saying that JJ went after EJ. Clearly he didn't do that. I also think scenes may have been cut over the past few months in order to keep EJ and Abigail neutral and still lusting for one another. There have been a lot of "choppy" episodes where things just don't seem to mesh.

I agree with all that's been said about Daniel. He shouldn't have been kidnapped and it didn't advance the story. But then again neither did Liam kidnapping Jennifer.

Boring episode today and I couldn't wrap my head around it. Glad I got to recap yesterday instead. I could really do without Eve, Paige, Mary Beth, Kristen, Jeannie Theresa, Kate, Sami, and Brady at this point. Imagine what a great show we'd have then.

I'm glad to see Eric out of the hoodie. Finally!

I did not like Jennifer or Nicole's dresses and I don't like Nicole's hair. It ages her too much.

I did enjoy Hope and Aiden but they need to be more on the front burner to move this along.

Kristen = BORING

The thing is, I believe that the show exaggerates what is happening. A character says something to another character, and it is "confrontation" or "attack". This is hype talk to make us excited, or eager to see what transpires. When it falls flat, and the viewing public wonders "is that all, that was nothing", the suits don't seem to get it thru their heads that the public is not going to believe anything they read any more.

I do not think anything filmed months ago has been re-edited. I think the editing has always been poor, still is, and that filming 1 1/2 shows per day gives them room to cut and paste scenes from 2-3 days of filming, making a mish mash of some shows. The intent is to pretend they really are an "ensemble" and there are more than a couple of actors hogging the airtime.
Thus, lots of meaningless filler, filler, filler at times.

I have a question. Why is Nicole in the police station confronting Kristen, running around like Miss Innocent? Nicole tampered with/destroyed evidence in this case. I don't know, but wouldn't that be obstruction of justice? I need DrBakerFan to explain this, lol.

Nicole wasn't obstructing justice when she barged into the room where Kristen was being held because her actions did not materially interfere with a police investigation. That said, the fact that Nicole was able to do what she did is just another example of the Salem P.D.'s utter lack of professionalism. Viewers of the old Law & Order series with Sam Waterston and Jerry Orbach will recall that when some suspect was hauled into the police station, he/she was tossed in a holding cell. No aggrieved persons were allowed to come in and question them or shout insults. In the Al Pacino-Helen Mirren HBO film about the Phil Spector murder case, those who wished to express their hatred for Mr. Spector had to do so on the courthouse steps when he arrived for his trial. That said, if Lee Harvey Oswald had been held by the Salem P.D., Jack Ruby never would have been able to shoot him. Somebody else would have walked in and killed Oswald first.

:clap:Thanks for the info and the laugh DrBakerFan :)

The thing I don't get about this storyline is that back when Nicole and Daniel came back from the Chyka adventure, Hope told them both that any evidence obtained from Chyka's cabin was completely inadmissible because it was obtained illegally. So how is Trask building any kind of case against Kristen when the evidence that Daniel recovered can't be used against her? It would seem the case boils down to Eric's claims and Nicole saying she found him in his hotel room, which doesn't seem like a solid case.
