And by that title, I mean the way they were brought onto the Salem canvas. There has been tons of complaints about Jordan, her being boring, having no back story, no one knowing anything about her background, Rafe's lack of interest in finding out, etc. etc. That backlash has been going on everywhere, and for quite some time.
Did the show learn a lesson?
Here is Serena...In less than a week we already know she knew Eric in Africa, they were very much in love, had many adventures together, and only parted because he decided to enter the priesthood. She is a medical journalist, with a grant to be worked on at Salem Univ. Hospital. She has met Kayla, Marlena, probably Sami as well, since all were in NY at the same time. She & Eric have kept in touch via e-mail since he left Africa. She is a gal who can hold her own when she feels wronged, and for some reason, Nicole thinks she recognizes her from somewhere.
Contrast that with Jordan's arrival, and outside of knowing she came from Birmingham.....knew nothing about her, except she had several drivers' licenses in her possession, each from a different state. That is all we knew for months.

I have no idea what the idea was when she was hired, as we have heard minds were changed afterwards, yet they had someone on contract with absolutely NOTHING to do...the show that is always so budget conscious.

So far, Serena is rather an interesting character, and has managed to make one not yawn when Eric is with her in a scene. THAT is an accomplishment.

You're forgetting that we knew she had a cat! LOL

I agree, Serena has been introduced in a much more well-written way than Jordan. But I won't even blame the writers, I'll blame whatever suits wanted us to believe EJ & Sami were a terrific match, and that Rafe needed to be in a coma and therapy bubble for decades in order to make EJ/Sami "work." Bubble stories stink. Umbrella stories work and they make you watch. I have watched more of Eric this past week than in the last 6 months, because I like the actress who plays Serena. But she's mixed in with enough characters that I'm starting not to fear she'll be stuck in scene after scene with Eric. This makes me happy.

That is what I was getting at. Serena has ALREADY interacted with Kayla, Marlena, Eric, Melanie, Anne, Jennifer, Maxine, and even looks familiar to Nicole. The actress is very good, and I do applaud the way she has so quickly been connected to Salemites. Good job.

I swear this is more than Jordan ever had, even now, over a year later.

I am sure when she (Jordan) signed on her story was totally different, but the golden couple were still on canvas and they couldn't have them upstaged by another character again in my opinion.

This is the reason Rafe was left in a coma so long and then left wandering the streets, drinking coffee.

I wondered what the writers were thinking when they initially brought Jordan to the canvas. Would be interesting to see if the original plan for her character will ever come out. I think having her run from her hot headed brother Ben would have made a more interesting storyline and still umbrella in other characters. Also, Jordan should have been a specialist for Chad instead of Rafe. Kate could have hired Jordan still and been a meddler looking out for Chad's best interests instead of romantic feelings for Rafe. Rafe should have been put into a storyline with Nicole and Daniel. It would be nice to have 2 men fighting for Nicole's affections rather than her and another woman fighting over a man.

Chad wasn't on when Jordan was brought on. I think that Jordan was brought on the canvas to appease Rafe and Sami fans who were upset by the sudden change in direction of the show. TIIC thought she could replace Sami in Rafe's life but as we've seen, it's just not the same. Not even close. While someone at the top was clearly pushing for EJ and Sami to be front and center, someone else was equally pushing to keep Rafe on the canvas though what we got was Rafe with a much diminished role. Otherwise, I think he would have suffered from Lucas syndrome at this point. My 2 cents.

Funny I just saw this thread and when I watched todays show I thought the same thing, about these two. I just have this feeling that Jordan's exit will be worse than her entrance.

I would have to agree, that whatever the original intentions for story for Jordan, the character was backburnered so that the Golden Couple could have all the airtime. I also lthink Rafe's coma was stretched out for the same reason....Heck, there was an entire "stefano ordering the maiming of comatose Rafe" story that went on for weeks and weeks. Outside of being the intended victim the story centered completely on Sami & EJ. Then there was that whole farce of "oops, Gabi killed Nick when he tried to rape her, let's throw his dead body in the river. Oh, my goodness, (screammm) he is not dead after all. Now he is". That story should have been all Gabi, maybe Kate, but also Rafe. Nope, not at all.

So Jordan was left looking at charts, fingering her fake i.d. cards a few times for months and months.
But Serena is brought on, knows several people in Salem already, or had interacted with them, we have heard some back story already, and she even is hooked romantically with someone. Plus, she is already tied to Dr. Saint, and while working at the same hospital where Jordan was introduced, just look at all the folks with whom Serena has interacted there in just a couple of days.

Okay, here's the problem with the Jordan storyline. It started as a Madam X (Lana Turner) type story. Another World did this best with Aunt Liz vs Melissa dating her son Bill way back. (I was a child LOL!) Later with Donna Love vs Alice's daughter who was dating her brother. These stories mentored me with my own writing. These were true love stories and these evil witches used their craftiness to tear them apart. Kate is just like them. Also they could have gone the route of Jordan stepping up to Kate to where she gains respect for her. Maybe we will still see that.

While the writing has done the character of Jordan no favors. The story you referenced above could never work here because Jordan can never hold her own against Kate. As a result, Kate looks like she is picking on a kid.
