We have jumped in head first in giving the kitchen a facelift. This weekend we are tackling painting the cabinets. OMG there's 68 cabinet doors. I'm taking a short break so I don't get too overwhelmed. I've been prepping the cabinets all day. We decided to paint all the hardware as well which meant we even had to paint the screws. We spent all day yesterday emptying the cabinets and painting the hardware.

Once we get the cabinets done we are going to resurface the counter tops. We're replacing the sink, faucet and hood vent as well.

We still have to figure out the back splash. But there's plenty of time for that.

Wow I knew it would be a huge job.. It's living up to my expectations... and more. lol

OK SarahBeth, I'm tired just reading about what you're doing!!

Congrats on the kitchen rehab though. I'm sure you're going to be thrilled once you're done.

Sounds just like Weekend Warriors on HGTV. It will be so nice when you get it done! I need to get a new countertop and sink. Have been thinking all weekend, trying to decide what I want. We used to do all the work on everything ourselves but I'm so happy to let someone else do it now. Keep us posted and let us know how everything turns out. This is interesting to me.

Yep, it's a lot of what they all call "sweat equity",we've certainly been there done that, but.... Oh, how wonderful it will be when you stand back,
admire your work and know you not only saved $ but did it the way you wanted.
You mentioned "resurface" the counter tops~~ what will you do?
Keep us posted and we all wish you much success !!

We are going to use a product by Rustoleum called Countertop Transformations and going with the Desert Sand kit. That's a weekend project in itself. We got about 1/3 of the painting done today. I started pulling up the shelf paper and sanding this morning. We worked about 12 hours today not counting meal breaks. Hoy boy I'm tired. I'm gonna sit and watch an episode of Star Trek then go to bed.

I hit the home button and finally found the other forum sections.
I had bookmarked Daily Days, so that's all I ever looked at.

LOL, Dana, and your jaw dropped, right ? Am glad you found all the rest of the Spectator. Just like the Sunday newspaper, it is full of all kinds of "sections". :)
    Dana appreciates this.

Last nights episode ended up being a two parter. We watched Deep Space Nine-Past Tense. I love netflix! I'm just having a cup of coffee before getting back to the painting. I need to be awake before going up and down that ladder. I am so sore from stretching every wich-a-way to reach into the corners.

SarahBeth, I have some projects to do before our contractor comes back to paint the walls and do other things. I'm hoping to get some inspiration and motivation from you. :D

Dana, this was the first board I'd ever been on so when I started I did something like you and stayed in one place. It took me forever to figure out there were other sections, and how to get to them and what they were all about. I hope you will enjoy the different forums as much as I have!

Still lot's to do but we got enough done to start doing shelf paper where the dishes go so I can get some stuff put away and be able to cook in the kitchen tomorrow while putting some of the cabinet doors back on. There's so many that they had to be painted in batches and they are lined up along all our hallways as well as in the garage. The hardware looks really cool.

Now I need to find something I can paint the metal parts of the ceiling fan with that will match the hardware. Otherwise we will be replacing the ceiling fan which I'd rather not do since it's in perfect working order.

    Thank you Cowgirl,

Honestly, I've only been a member of three boards in my entire life: an iPhone board (which I left after six months---the policitcs and drama at a CELL PHONE BOARD was beyond belief) an aviation/Air Traffic Control Board, and a Law Enforcement/Etc board.

This is certainly the most fun and less....dramatic....than the others.
I am pleased to have found the other sections.

What an ambitious project. Wow, I have a big kitchen, but still, only 18 cabinet doors, plus about 12 drawers. 68 is mind boggling! Why do you want to paint the metal parts of the ceiling fan? Why not just leave them the way they are? Just curious.
And one last question......if you are resurfacing the counter tops...I hope you are not considering cement. ????? (Someone I know did that..)

Barb, the faucet and hardware are a brushed nickel and hammered nickel but the ceiling fan is a brushed brass. I'd like all of the metal to have the nickel tone. We're using a Rustoleum product just for countertops. I'd love to replace them but it's real expensive and to do it yourself we both know we would probably screw up the angle cuts. Plus we are planning on selling after next school year so the plan is to make it look good but it doesn't need to be our dream kitchen.

Dana we are watching Deep Space Nine then we are going to watch Voyager. Today I'm gonna set up the laptop in the kitchen and catch up on Days while shelf papering.

@SaraBeth....Ahhh, a gal after my own heart. The hubby replaced faucets in bathroom sink, with bronze, and the tub faucets, towel bars, recessed soap dish are all chrome. He is a "sale" junkie. Grrrrr.
