Here's the thing, folks. After spending a lot time that I really don't have, merging posts, I figure it is better to come to you directly. A lot of our bandwidth is being used up with unnecessary quoting, failure to use the multiple quote feature, etc. So, to make life easier for me, Wayne and for us all.........a bit of a refresher course.

There is absolutely NO NEED to quote the original post in a thread. It is the reason for the thread, everyone is responding to it.
If you want to respond to a post within a thread, use the @poster name to respond to the whole thing. If you are only responding to a portion, then, yes, use the quote feature, but DELETE the portion of the post to which you are NOT responding.
You can also hi-light a sentence or two, copy it, then hit that little icon above your post that looks like a letter. It is the quote icon. Paste your copied sentence between the quote-/quote codes.....Voila!

You can edit your post very easily, by just clicking on edit on your own post. Thereby fixing any spelling errors or whatever that you note after your post appears.

And now to the multiple quote feature. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE....put all your comments into one post instead of 2 or 3 in a row. If you are reading a thread, want to reply to 2 or 3 different posts, with different comments....just click the double quotes square in the lower right hand side of the post.....then click the same double quotation mark square in the next one, and so forth. When you go down to reply in your own post.....all the quoted posts will be there. You can delete the portions that are not important to your reply, and then just post your reply under the quote....go to the next quoted portion, do the same.

Folks, avatars, signature pics take up bandwidth, so what we all can do to help is truly appreciated.

And then there are posted pictures. Again, PLEASE do not repeat a posted picture. I know you all love some of those drool worthy (lol) or so funny ones, so do I, but, same reason.
And you all do know that our gallery is just full of pictures..an amazing collection, mostly due to our PAllison.

Thanks for the review of the quote feature and others....you know why I like these rules...?? And I'm going to tell you even if you don't care why...!! It keeps this site looking nice, it makes the threads easy and fast to read, and cuts out all that nonsense stuff that other boards are totally smothered by....sometimes you can't even tell where the actual post begins and ends on some of the other sites...
Thanks so much for creating and managing this wonderful place...!!!

Thanks for taking time to write and post this Barb. From the looks of things, it doesn't seem to have sunk in for some people. **sigh**

Thanks Barb! It does get a bit tedious to have to keep scrolling past pics already seen when the post is posted. Especially wehn the reply to the quote has nothing to do with the quote. I usually try to cut out the parts in a quote that I am not responding to.

    Again, thanks :)

    Barb,

Is it still a "no no" to quote the post directly above your own??

That's one that really irks me and I'm sure it wastes a lot of band width.

@KathyLu...........O.K. it is not a no no, but is sure unnecessary..........and again, a waste of bandwidth.

And one can always do as I just did....use the @ sign, and reply to the post........even if it is not just the one above,

golfnut, you're still a newbie. Poirot is easy to get along with and won't hit you with that wet noodle for using the quote feature. :)

    Welcome golfnut!

KathyLu is right. Poirot is very nice to newbies. But once you hit the 100 post count, you're on your own.
