Sami tells Kate about the article Will wrote detailing their takeover of DiMera Enterprises. They worry how the board will react - and also fear this could push Stefano over the edge. Sami tries to do damage control with Shin, who strongly hints it would be best if Sami could say she and EJ reconciled. Sami later thaws a bit with EJ. Meanwhile, Will and Sonny anxiously wait for the online edition of Will's story to hit the web. Will gets testy when he feels Sonny isn't being supportive. They soon make up; then Kate arrives, demanding answers from her grandson. Earlier, Abigail (who's out with Arianna) and Ben run into each other in the park and share some romance. As they kiss, EJ enters, and things get awkward. JJ is stunned when Hope mentions that Jennifer had a date last night. JJ presses his mom, who admits she had plans with Aiden but they fell through - then makes clear it was intended to be purely platonic. Aiden arrives, and he and Hope are extremely uncomfortable around each other. When Jennifer reenters the room, Aiden quickly makes an excuse to leave. Jennifer explains to Hope about the non-date with Aiden, and Hope later asks Aiden why he misled her. Eve surprises Theresa by sending her on a mysterious mission to speak with Paige. Theresa visits her unsuspecting niece and pretends to be happy that Paige is dating JJ, reinforcing the idea of how fun and wild he is. Later, Paige confronts her mother, demanding to know if she sent Theresa to talk to her. Earlier, Eve interrupts JJ and Rory to tell JJ she's disappointed in him - he's much more like his father than she thought.

08/19, Tuesday: 1.7/2,264,000
At the police station, Kristen waits to hear her fate as the grand jury hears witnesses. Fresh from testifying at the courthouse, Nicole arrives, finally getting her chance to confront her enemy. Kristen taunts Nicole about losing Eric. Kristen then goes to court but is told the grand jury has one more witness to hear. She turns and comes face-to-face... with Eric. Daniel visits Brady, who is grateful Daniel has brought Kristen back to face justice - but Brady has no intention of seeing her. Victor vows he'll take care of Kristen in his own way if the courts do not. Privately, Daniel asks Maggie to help Jennifer with the Eve situation. Later, Daniel runs into Eric, surprised to hear he was given the opportunity to return to the priesthood, but declined. Meanwhile, Brady is tempted to drink. Paige confronts Eve over using Theresa to undermine Paige's belief in JJ. Paige insists she's committed to JJ. Meanwhile, Marybeth gives JJ a hard time about Paige's decision to delay Stanford, questioning whether he's really changed or not. Even Rory has doubts. Later, JJ and Paige watch Parker together, and it's clear JJ's past still eats at him. Jennifer meets with Aiden about her case when Maggie arrives with a proposal, offering to sweeten the deal so Eve will settle and drop the lawsuit. Jennifer's intrigued but has a mysterious rider she wants Aiden to attach to the proposal. Eve, already worried about losing and getting nothing, is presented with the deal by Jennifer: take it or leave it but it must be signed now. Earlier, Hope confronts Aiden, wondering if he had been trying to make her believe he was dating Jennifer. Aiden admits he was worried Hope had developed feelings for him. She denies it and claims she thought he was the one who had feelings for her. They go their separate ways, both in denial. Jennifer is surprised when Eric tells her he won't be returning to the priesthood. Later, he has more disturbing fantasies about Nicole, unable to eject her from his thoughts.

08/20, Wednesday: 2.0/2,731,000
Eric arrives at the courthouse to give his testimony to the grand jury and runs into Kristen. Against her lawyer's advice, Kristen waylays him and offers something of an apology. In court, a strong Eric recounts all he knows about what was done to him. Later, an indictment is handed down, and Kristen is arraigned. The D.A. asks that bail be denied. But the judge has other ideas - and Kristen allows herself a small smile. Brady, tempted to have a drink, finds his will power and resists... and then encounters Theresa who has heard about Kristen's return. The conversation takes an uncomfortable turn for Theresa when Brady says he's not giving up on John's eventual recovery. Later, Nicole connects with Brady, knowing that Kristen's return tortures him. Eric arrives, having given his testimony, and they all hope Kristen will eventually be convicted. Daniel grills Nicole about why Eric has decided not to return to the priesthood. Nicole reveals Eric feels he's not worthy because of the hate he feels for her. Daniel reiterates how betrayed he feels and tells her to keep her distance. Later, he picks up Parker from Paige and learns Eve has settled the lawsuit with Jennifer. He crosses with Theresa and lets her know he finds her story about what happened to John a little suspicious. Theresa is unsettled. Jennifer presents Eve with a final offer to settle the lawsuit - with the added ultimatum that Eve clam up in public about Jack, his book and the movie. Eve has realized it's settle now or risk getting nothing later - so she signs, but hates it and later tells Theresa she's doubling down on getting JJ out of Paige's life. Jennifer goes home and gives JJ the great news about the settlement, but the celebration is put on hold when Abigail returns home, clearly upset. Sonny and Will are waiting anxiously for Will's article to come online, but Sonny still feels guilty about how Abigail, though unnamed, is referred to in Will's takedown of EJ and Sami. To help assuage Sonny's worry, Will calls Abigail and alerts her to the story, saying she'll want to read it. When it finally comes online, she's curious and begins to read... Back at the apartment, Sonny gets to the article first and can't believe what he's reading. He turns to Will, furious.

08/21, Thursday: 1.8/2,310,000
Sonny's upset Will named Abigail in his article, but Will insists he didn't do it. He realizes it was Sami's doing. He's upset Sonny thought he might have done such a thing, but eventually they make up. Later, EJ arrives to talk to Will, and Sonny confronts Sami. Abigail tells Jennifer and JJ what happened, and they are supportive. Abigail receives some disturbing social media posts, and Jennifer asks Ben to take her daughter away from an intrusive reporter. Later, JJ blasts Will for the story. Sami claims to EJ that she tried to stop the magazine from publishing the article and assures him she convinced the board there's nothing to worry about. When EJ expresses sympathy for "poor" Abigail, Sami unloads on him. Lucas encounters Jordan after seeing Sheryl in Houston (which didn't go well). Lucas learns Jordan and Rafe split because Rafe slept with Kate again. Lucas unloads on Kate, who doubts Jordan and Rafe will be able to get past this. Kate diverts Lucas by telling him about the magazine article Will wrote. Ben apologizes to Rafe for punching him. Rafe asks Ben about his father, wondering what about Clyde makes Jordan shut down. Later, Jordan tells Ben about the Abigail article, and he goes to assure Abigail he'll be there for her. Clyde tries to persuade Jordan they can get through what happened in the past, but Jordan says that will never happen. Clyde asks Kate for recommendations for some "discreet" people who might help him out in an unspecified but clearly shady business. He hints he might clue Rafe in that she's the one who brought him to town if she doesn't cooperate.

08/22, Friday: 1.7/2,130,000
Kristen is let go on $1 million bail, despite the D.A.'s argument that she is a clear flight risk. At the same time, Brady goes to the hospital, where he overhears Theresa and Anne talking about the magazine article about Abigail. Theresa sees his frustration, and she wonders if it's because of Kristen's return. Brady tells Theresa he's upset because he was told by a medical expert that there's no hope for his father. Theresa reaches out to comfort him... but Brady pulls back, reminding her he sent in the annulment papers. He goes for a run to clear his head... and runs into Kristen. Meanwhile, Roman updates Marlena about Kristen. Daniel calls Anne out on her glee regarding the Abigail scandal. He stops by the Horton house to support Abigail. She and Jennifer craft a press release to counter Will's article. Daniel ends up helping Jennifer deal with some reporters but maintains a certain emotional distance. Later, Anne stops by to gloat, but Jennifer handles her. Daniel runs into Theresa, and once again he picks up on her interest in the John situation. She covers, turns the tables and gets feisty with Daniel. Will reveals to an angry EJ that it was Sami who named Abigail in the article. Later, EJ encounters Abigail, assuring her everyone knows she was the victim in this thing. Abigail assures him she was no victim. Sonny lets Sami have it for what she did to Will. Sami says Will was not the innocent party. Marlena comes in on their argument and is upset Sami didn't tell her. Sami explains she didn't - and still does not - want to hear her mother's platitudes. Later, EJ returns home and finds a rattled Sami, who says he has to help her! Meanwhile, Will hangs up from a call with Sonny when Abigail arrives.

Wow, Days lost out that week......losing viewers in every category. Looks as though Kristen's return was not an incentive to tune in at all. Neither is the publication or fallout from the "big reveal" article that Will wrote. Or am I reading the results incorrectly?

Thanks for posting. As usual, Days comes in dead last :( .

Isn't this about the time Corday comes out with a plan to "save" Days? I keep waiting every week to hear him say that as he did a few years ago when the ratings tanked. I get the impression these head writers don't care. We have seen enough story lines to know they can write decent material, but it happens very sporadically and right now we are in one of their slumps. The stories drag out to the point we don't care about them anymore and most of the characters are so unlikeable, there is no one left to root for with the exception of all of the children under 10.

The shows issues originate higher up than the writers, and to some degree even higher up than Corday. For some time now the suits at NBC have made certain demands on who should be featured and the direction of characters and storylines. Just look at what gets heavily promoted.

The show has been in last place for years now and I am surprised that they haven't come up with a plan to try to come up with some more original storylines and do something different that makes it different than the other 3 soaps.

I think the suits and the writers are too stubborn to admit they were wrong about Sami & EJ, Daniel & Jennifer, and more. I almost believe they'd rather this show continue on it's downward spiral and get cancelled than admit they were wrong, fire who needs to be fired, and write something better. In fact, I also get the distinct feeling they are flipping the bird to us fans with certain things they do (killing Jack off, the Bo situation, breaking up Sami and Rafe for Sami and EJ, backburnering the vets, constantly trashing Nicole, keeping Daniel & Jennifer front and center and together, etc etc).

The bigger problem is dragging story out forever and ever. They would benefit by putting stories into short arcs. Thus, people would really miss a lot when they don't tune in for a few days, a week or two.
For instance, anyone who hasn't watched all summer and returns now will find that Eve is still trying to break up Paige & JJ, as are their friends, Sami is still mad at EJ but softening, Hope is still waiting for Bo to reappear, Aiden is still not wanting to talk of his wife, John is still in a coma, Theresa & Brady are still married, Jennifer is still giving those "looks" to Daniel, as Eric is to Nicole. Stefano is still missing, Jordan still has not told Rafe of her past, Justin is still out of town, Maggie is still butting in to others' business, fawning over her egg baby, and despite it being summer vacation, kids rarely seen, Daniel is still mad at Nicole, Rory is still trying to entice JJ to "party, dude".
All that perhaps "moved" a bit....Ben & Abby appear to be getting closer, Clyde is pursuing Kate, and Will's article was published. That is not much for an entire summer. The show keeps doing "filler" material, rather than move their stories at a better pace, and thus, folks are bored.
And yes, Corday pays so little attention to what is on screen, and NBC itself has been poking it's nose into the show, and dictating how they want some things to go. (They have done this in prime time shows as well, causing writers/producers etc. to leave).
In the long run, Corday just agrees to what others tell him, but leaves all decisions in other hands.

I agree with the comments made about Corday and the suits at NBC. It just would be nice if somebody at the top cared enough about the ratings of the show to want to make a change to the show so it would be more interesting and draw the fans back so the ratings would go up.

On a weekly basis these numbers continue to baffle me. I hope the suits don't only look at them but use them as 1 tool in an arsenal of decision making criteria.

I read something once about a program (no longer on the air) where the producer was just insistent that story go a certain way, this or that had to happen. Ratings were falling, but the person refused to budge on whatever the focus. Fellow suits, cast members, even sponsors attempted to point out what was wrong, the failing ratings, etc. And of course, the program was cancelled. Had been a good one.

This is how I view Corday. Head in the sand. Refuses to take the measures that would help, (maybe because he doesn't know, has never paid attention to what constitutes good storytelling, or how to keep his soap successful). He asks advice from others who just want to keep their jobs, so are convincing in their painting of "story to come", "characters to feature". But he doesn't seem to grasp the concept of "it is the viewers who matter, ALL of them".

To Corday, Days is still the goose that lays golden eggs, but the best thing for Days would be for him to sell the rights to Days (which he will never do) to someone who doesn't wear blinders, and knows how to run a more successful show. I know soap audience has lessened considerably. I have friends who used to watch Another World, or All My Children (just the one soap) and when those soaps left, they did not go to another soap. The TVs are dark in the afternoon, and if on...a movie is being watched.

About 7 years ago a bunch of us met on a board and we formed our own e-mail pen pal group, every night we would discuss DAYS, and this went on until the lock, stock, and barrel crap. Some of the girls I haven't heard from in a year, some of us still are in contact with one another, but now a few of us talk about GH!
