Wasn't there a casting blurb about a young blond girl who had been cast in a role not yet named? People had speculated she was a teen Allie.

That movie with James Garner and Doris Day was Move Over, Darling. It was a remake of the unfinished Marilyn Monroe movie, Something's Got to Give, which itself was a remake of the Cary Grant and Irene Dunne movie, My Favorite Wife.

I prefer the Cary Grant version, but the Doris Day one is also cute. With film, you just gotta suspend reality at times.
