Maybe stephanie learnt from her days of covering up murder..

This time around.. Stephanie sees the changes in Max, since he met his sister mel... and why max might be trying tobe the all protective big brother.. and might be feeling some sort of guilt for never being there for her.. or for her having the life she had. Max knows the value of the life he had.. He's just a little out of whack right now...

loosing his pop shawn..having to kind abe the man of the house.. the pub.. .. finally his life is not just up to a whim.. to whatever he fells like doing..he's got responsibility.. to his ma.. his pop shawn... and.. the family business...

he's been through alot.. ...

you know.. bo did not become the man he is on the straight and narrow.. he did and still does some goof ball stuff..


Steph might feel a little threatened by Melanie... and a bit uncomfortable with Max's .. more ..grown (growing) up side.

While she did the correct thing by telling Bo and Hope... she still have motive in doing so..to try to get max to dislike his sister..and see her for what she is...
 
I don't think that was her motive. She feels that Max can get in to big trouble for witholding evidence/information, and that his faith and loyalty is misdirected. She rightly feels Melanie is manipulating him, and he cannot see the forest for the trees.

She just wants to protect him from himself. She realizes he is not seeing things as they are, because he so wants to believe in his sister.
