Susan's Bedroom: Robe-clad EJ spouts the benefits of his mee-maw's hangover cure, which Nicole finds hard to swallow. They sit on the edge of the bed and embrace. Johnny enters. Why is his dad sleeping with Rafe's wife in grandma's bed? They explain and Johnny apologizes. Nicole goes to shower. Johnny and EJ recap the Jakarta trip, he vows to keep his dad's secret.

Brady Pub: Rafe drops by to see Jada. He was worried about her second call-in. She tells him she "got the abortion." Jada feels bad about missing work. Rafe tells her to take care of herself, and she admits she doesn't like being here. They recap (and apparently they talked on Thanksgiving about her choice) how everyone feels about everything, including what Nicole told her (the actual laundry list). Rafe is upset about Nicole's selfishness, but Jada assures him this was her choice. Jada recaps the fallout between Nicole and Eric. Later, they've finished eating, and Jada apologizes for trashing Nicole. Rafe thinks Nicole deserves it, and they recap Nicole and Eric's smutty friendship. Jada again pulls back, tries to be the bigger person, she needs to focus on her career. He gets a call about Eric.

Jail: Sloan dares Eric to hire her. Sloan gets what she pursues. Sloan calls Chanel a sociopath and Eric gets a recap. Then he gives her one about his tragedy. She makes another pitch for him to hire her.

Interrogation Room: Chanel and Paulina talk with Abe. He has been making international calls to see if he can help Paulina and Chanel. The city council president calls him (Cass Winthrop). The city council is asking him to resign as mayor.

Police Workroom: Belle stops by to talk to Shawn-D about Eric. She feels sorry for her brother. A bit of back-and-forth before she decides to defend Eric. Eric is marched out in cuffs and announces that he won't need Belle. Sloan announces she's his lawyer. Everyone snipes.

Allie's Apartment: Johnny stops by to see Wendy, who's not there. Chanel is sad. Johnny comforts her. He can't believe it (off-screen recap) but does wonder why she never mentioned it when they were together. He regrets not being around when all this stuff happened. Chanel didn't know Susan had died.

DiMansion Study/Living Room: EJ has called Trask; he has dropped the charges. Nicole comes down. EJ has plans for Nicole and Holly. Nicole has second thoughts. She's worried what people will think now that she has a daughter.

Police Workroom: More sniping. Shawn-D gets a call from Trask. The charges are being dropped, but Trask is pursuing Eric's assault of an officer. Sloan calls Trask, reminds her she can be repaid for the two "career-making" cases Sloan brought Trask by dropping charges. Trask folds. Eric takes Sloan to breakfast.

Interrogation Room: Round and round about what Abe's plans were and were not, he vows to stand by Paulina. Abe calls to resign, but Paulina takes the phone and says he's never going to step down. She will refuse to be sworn in.

Brady Pub: Jada is surprised that Eric was violent. Rafe tells her she dodged a bullet.

Square: Eric is wolfing down food. Sloan gets attractive one-shots over tinkly music. Nicole comes up, is glad Eric is out. Eric snipes at her. Sloan knows about Nicole's reputation.

Police Workroom: Belle worries about Eric crashing down again. She has to leave to help Paulina's case.

DiMansion Study/Living Room: EJ is too sad to work and looks at a picture of Susan. The doorbell rings, he tells Harold he'll get it. He opens the door and says, "It's you." END.

So Another World was part of the same universe as DOOL? Like how the CBS soaps crossover? Interesting, I didn't know it. I don't know who Cass Winthrop is, but I'm glad at least some throwback was mentioned. If only the rest of the show could see such effort put into the writing. Thanks for the summary.

Eric is insufferable. He and Sloan deserve each other.

Nice seeing Rafe and Jada. They are growing on me. It remains to be seen whether or not these writers can handle this storyline properly.

Everything else seems like filler today, although nothing was terrible.

OK. This is a longshot. Is it remotely possible that Jada did not have an abortion. Could she be using this scenario to make sure Eric turns away from Nicole. As a former priest, Eric would see abortion as a mortal sin and Nicole would be in a state of mortal sin for causing Jada to seek an abortion. He wouldn't want anything to do with Nicole. After Jada is sure and certain that Eric is done with Nicole, she will give him a story about how she couldn't go through with it, but she didn't want to come between Sourpuss and the town hussy. Just speculating but, darn, I think I am better at this than ReRon!

Eric doesn't seem to remember or care that he was a priest, nor does he exhibit any characteristics even close to his parents or grandparents let alone the mind or soul of a priest, former or not. Actually, he seems to be more and more like sister Sami, everything is always someone else's fault.

So Another World was part of the same universe as DOOL?
No, they weren't connected. I'm guessing Re-Ron or one of the other writers was a fan and threw in the name Cass Winthrop for fun.

But, back in the 80's, I know Guiding Light named a character Kurt Corday as a little nod to the Cordays who created Days.
I don't know who Cass Winthrop is, but I'm glad at least some throwback was mentioned.
Ironically, Cass Winthrop on Another World was played by actor Stephen Schnetzer, who at one time played Steven Olson on Days. Steven is Julie's full brother and Hope's older half-brother. He was a con artist/crook who eventually fled Salem and last we heard is living in Europe and has a son named Spencer (who was only mentioned on Days once, by Julie, and never seen).

Here is Stephen Schnetzer (who played Cass Winthrop on Another World) as Steven Olson with his sister Julie on Days:

Thank you, Jason! I like the breakdown by location, easy to follow.

What about when Eric told Sloan that he doesn't like to judge people? He is the king of judgment! Are we placing bets on their sleeping together soon, since he thinks Nicole slept with EJ? What's good for the goose. (And maybe Grey Goose Vodka will be involved.)

Once again, doors are not locked. True, Johnny should have knocked, but he still would have barged right in after knocking and receiving a "come in." Jumping to conclusions is par for the Salem course.

I enjoy the playfulness/friendship between Nicole and EJ, but that will be short lived. With Holly next door to Nicole, however, EJ needs to behave (although, in a weak moment, Nicole can go to HIS room, which I would not put past her).

While I don't think it is Kristen as Susan nor Susan herself at the door when EJ opened it, no clue as to who it could be.

Sloan could have called POPCORN for all those dimwits know.... they just turned Eric loose on the word of someone they have called less than honorable charges.

Love Rafe calling Eric Saint.

Eric chowing down????? He was at home the day before, he isn't really starving... sheesh....

Just to be clear, no, it's not, and I hope nobody took that from my comment. I think JS is right, Re-Ron is probably just a fan of the show Another World (which was a spinoff of Guiding Light and whose characters --including Cass Winthrop-- migrated to As the World Turns after AW was cancelled).

I think it's like the time he mentioned Calista Lockhart or other meaningless name-drops (like Paulina’s assistant "Mary" or her ex "Ray" being tongue-in-cheek references to her previous shows).

I thought the same thing - he was in jail for less than 12 hours by all accounts, right?

There were these other times they did some tongue-in-cheek references:

When Brady had someone dig up dirt on Eve and said he found out she used fake names to swindle old men: Chelsea from Springfield and Blair from Pennsylvania. It was an inside joke, as Kassie DePaiva (Eve) played Chelsea on Guiding Light, set in Springfield (on CBS), and Blair on One Life To Live, set in Pennsylvania (on ABC).

There was also a conversation with Stefan, Patch and Kayla in Horton Town Square, about Sam Maitland's past, but was also an inside joke about the three characters played by Stephen Nichols (Patch), Tyler Christopher (Stefan) and Mary Beth Evans (Kayla) on General Hospital, as they were all involved in the same storyline on there.

Eric would see abortion as a mortal sin
Like premarital sex?

All indications are she did have the abortion, and I for one hope she did and the fallout continues to be on how toxic and bad Eric and Nicole are for each other and other people.

YES, a million times yes to this comment. Eric was even judgey as a priest and a fugitive. I hope this is setting up his exit from Salem.
Jumping to conclusions is par for the Salem course.
But, to the writers' credit, admitting the error and apologising is not. I was taken aback!

That's what I was thinking was going to happen, then maybe she and Rafe would get together, she'd say she got pregnant to Rafe right away and he'd pretend to be the father of her baby.

But her actually having the abortion is kind of surprising. Roe vs. Wade was overturned back in June, which was probably around the time these scenes were taped. Not going to get political, regardless of where one falls on the issue, it is surprising the writers took this route with Jada. And of course it creates a bigger fallout with Eric and Nicole this way.

The last character on Days to have an abortion was when Mimi got pregnant to Rex the first time.

While taping may have been in June or thereabouts, the scenes were written 3 or 4 months earlier.
Corday and/or Alarr sees the scripts, approves, or indicates a change in something, perhaps.....and all that goes on before taping.

As to Eric, if he had been so devout as to have become a priest, he certainly lost whatever was inside him. He definitely is unable or not wanting to fight off the bad impulses.

Jada really seems to be making Nicole out to be the bad guy. But I was glad she told Rafe it was 100% her idea to get abortion. I'm surprised writers went there too. But Illinois is not one of the states that banned abortion. If she didn't get an abortion I don't see this working out well for her!!!!

And I absolutely see Eric and Sloan hitting the sheets! Hey maybe she'll get pregnant.

I will be glad when they show what actually happened on that roof! I for one am hoping that Chanel isn't 100% innocent!

Yes, but it was public knowledge months before Roe vs. Wade was overturned that people were trying to have it overturned. Just interesting that this is the direction the show took with such a hot button issue. And it certainly creates way more drama between Nicole and sourpuss Eric.
