Show opens in the Horton Town Square. Paulina is walking through and Harris stops her, glad he ran into her. She feels the same. They talk about what he has found so far in the drug case. Paulina feels like the drugs are spreading like wildfire. She is upset about poor Holly. Harris says he has an idea. She wants to know what it is, but he says "if it pans out, you'll be the first to know."

At the office, Everett arrives and Chad praises him for the great piece on the drug epidemic. Chad was able to schedule them a Facetime with the Mayor for this afternoon. They discuss the story a bit, Everett points out how witty and smart Mayor Price is and that Stephanie is determined to target the viewers that love Mayor Price. Chad says they should head to the mayor's office, turns down Everett's offer to invite Stephanie, then says "speaking of Stephanie" and says that he saw them kissing on New Year's Eve passionately. Chad says he was a little surprised. So much for being "just friends".

Kate and Roman are at a table in the square, finishing up their lunch date. Harris stops by and wants to speak to Kate alone, but Roman insists he gets to stay. Harris says ok, he needs to talk to her about Lucas.

At the station, Theresa rushes in and hugs Alex. Rafe apologizes for having to take a call and Theresa panics it's about Tate. Rafe sarcastically says he does have other cases. Theresa is annoyed and states that Tate was attacked. This is news to Rafe. Brady confirms this. Rafe had given orders for him to be in isolation. Brady puts blame on EJ. Theresa says this is not fair, she is upset. Alex says he's sorry, but this just fires her up, sorry isn't going to cut it. Justin walks up looking defeated. Soap stares.

Back at the table, Kate looks worried, asks what happened to Lucas?? Harris explains that they got a tip that the drug dealer that is pushing drugs in Salem is currently in Statesville. Harris wants to ask Lucas to help with the solution.

Back at the police station, Justin suggests they talk privately in the interrogation room.

At the office, Everett says it was just a New Year's Eve kiss because the ball dropped and Stephanie was there. They both went back to their respective homes after. Chad says it's not his business anyway. Everett points out that Chad did feel compelled to tell him though. They have a meaningless conversation about this.

At the square, Kate is not happy about Harris asking Lucas to help with a drug bust. Roman offers his advice, explains what Harris is asking is especially high-risk. Kate agrees Lucas can't be put in danger to rat out a drug dealer.

Back at the office, they talk about what they will be discussing with Mayor Price. As Salem's first black mayor, she wants to do a big celebration for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Everett talks about watching Holly and Tate dance on New Year's Eve, can't believe how fast it turned to tragedy. Everett wishes he could have helped. Chad talks about Abby, says that she said how for some people it's just a job, for others it's a calling. They head out to go visit the mayor.

In the interrogation room, Justin says their appeal was denied. Alex snaps how could he let it happen? Justin argues back that Tate confessing didn't help. Brady and Theresa are visibly upset. Theresa wants to know how the judge even knew about that? Justin says how could the judge not know? Mentions social media. Alex jumps down his throat about not making sure that Tate's name was erased from the internet on all platforms. Justin snaps back it's not that simple. They argue about this. Alex says this is all Justin's fault, not just EJ's.

Back at the square, Harris understands their concern about Lucas' safety. But if they don't get him involved, this drug crisis will continue to get worse. Roman and Kate are certainly heartbroken about Holly, but Kate says this is HER SON that they are talking about and she is going to protect him. Kate steps away to take a phone call. Roman and Harris discuss the situation. Harris suggests telling Kate that Lucas will be rewarded for his efforts.

At Paulina's office, she is coughing while trying to eat her soup for lunch. Chad and Everett knock and walk in. She is glad to see them and offers coffee and pastries. They decline. She mentions Sweet Bits and the many other vendors excited about the MLK celebration. She mentions Abe, and Everett praises her for being the embodiment of the dream of Martin Luther King, Jr., following in the footsteps of our first black mayor, Abe.

Paulina lovingly speaks of her Abraham and mentions that just two generations ago, this wouldn't be possible. We've come a long way, but with the news stories going on in the country today, she feels we have backslid a bit. She hopes this celebration keeps the dream alive. Chad says that is why the Spectator is sponsoring the event. He is focused and making sure the Spectator remains the voice for and of the people of Salem. He then changes topic and asks if she has any comments on the growing drug epidemic? Everett and Paulina look surprised at his question.

Back at the station, Justin explains there is nothing more they can do. Rafe walks in and shares that Tate was moved to another cell and his on-duty guards will make sure he is not in danger anymore. They wanted to let them know that Tate is doing OK. Theresa is relieved. After Rafe steps out, Alex and Justin continue their ridiculous arguing.

Back at the square, Roman inquires how Lucas exactly will be rewarded? Harris says they both know the system, the good behavior and helping with this case, could get him released sooner. Roman quickly points out to Harris that Lucas is in there for the kidnapping of his daughter Sami, so he's somewhat ambivalent about Lucas getting released. He loves his wife with all his heart so he will work on getting over his feelings about it to convince Kate to let him involve Lucas.

Back at Paulina's office, she answers Chad's question saying if they had 5 hours to talk, she still wouldn't have enough time to explain all her feelings about the drug case. Everett interrupts, asking to record and Paulina agrees. She begins her press conference talking to the people of Salem about her feelings on the drug case. But she keeps having to stop to cough. The guys get concerned, but she pushes through to finish her thoughts on the drug epidemic. She explains she is using every resource she can to clean the streets of Salem. She can't stop coughing, so the guys rush to her aid. Everett gets water, while Chad puts a hand on her shoulder. They both look worried.

Back to the station for more arguing about if Justin is a good enough attorney or not. Alex is quite disrespectful. Justin explodes. Alex says Justin isn't doing enough. Justin asks to be removed from the case. He will not tolerate being berated by his son. Justin storms out. Brady defends Justin, Alex is already calling his "shark" attorney to take the case.

Back at the square, Kate returns to the table after talking with Billie. Roman asks if she spoke to Billie about what Harris is asking of Lucas? No, she didn't. Roman tells Kate of Harris offering to make it more appealing for Lucas. Harris says he knows Lucas is a good human, and not a danger to society. He would use this to help Lucas get a lighter sentence. Kate needs time to think about it. Harris leaves.

Roman sighs and Kate asks him to give it to her straight, just how dangerous is this for Lucas? Roman doesn't want to state the obvious, but asks if she thinks Lucas could pull this off? Roman says Lucas is very smart. Kate worries if he is caught, he could die. Roman says but more likely, he would be successful and could get his life back. Kate looks pensive.

Back at Paulina's office, Paulina says maybe they should continue this later, as long as they have what they need regarding the MLK celebration. Her phone is ringing, she hesitates to answer. She declines the call, thanks them for everything. Chad and Everett thank her and leave. She looks worried as she puts her hand on her phone.

Back at the station, Brady is talking with Rafe back outside of the interrogation room. Justin walks in and says "it's all done on my end" and that he is going to go and tell Theresa and Alex. Rafe stops him and asks if he thinks it would be smart for Brady to get a second opinion? Brady suggests Belle or Carrie. Justin sarcastically says "Really?" and reminds Brady that he just witnessed how Alex spoke to him, does he really want either of those two in his line of fire? Brady does not, but he's just trying to help his son. He knows Justin is the best for his son, he's upset at what happened. He wants Alex to butt out and shut up. Tate is HIS son and he wants Justin to represent him.

Back at the square, Kate begins to break but is so worried about something happening to Lucas. Roman continues to point out the positive that could result in his help. Kate says, OK, she'll tell Harris he has her blessing on involving Lucas. She calls Harris and tells him. Harris appreciates her approval. After ending the call, Roman tells her she made a good decision. Kate hopes so. Roman assures her that since she wants Lucas home, so does he. Kate thanks him for his support.

Back at Paulina's office, she is talking to herself, trying to convince herself it's just a bad cold or allergies. She starts coughing again and picks up her phone. She calls Dr. Siegal and tells him he and his nurses should all come to the celebration. He wants her to come to the office tomorrow to discuss her results, but she wants him to just tell her over the phone. He says no, must be in person. She agrees and will see him there. After ending the call, she soap stares to nowhere with worry.

At the square, Chad and Everett are passing through talking about what happened at Paulina's. Everett says he saw who was calling her, it was University Hospital. Chad wonders if he thinks the cough is more serious?

Back in the interrogation room, Alex is on the phone with his shark attorney "Rodney" arguing about the case he wants him to take, Rodney hangs up on him. Brady walks in and begins to give a dramatic speech about how Tate is his son and he wants Justin, but notices Alex and Theresa's disappointed faces and asks if he missed something?

Alex explains that Rodney said he couldn't do any more than what Justin did. Justin walks in and Brady says it's settled, the Chicago guy can't help. Justin is the only one and he asks him to continue with the case. Justin asks Alex and Theresa if that's what they want? They agree. Justin reminds Alex he will not tolerate him disrespecting him in any way. He wants his efforts appreciated and acknowledged. Alex agrees. Justin steps out, Theresa asks Alex to leave as well. She wants to talk to Brady alone, they are Tate's parents and need to figure things out. All she cares about is her son.

Really tired of Paulina's cough.

Shouldn't Harris ask grown man Lucas if he wants to do it and not his mommy?

Chad still being an idiot.

Hate the Tate story. Did like that Alex's super powerful lawyer couldn't do any more than Justin. Alex also being an idiot. He did almost call Justin dad. How will Theresa get his money if she shuns him? She should absolutely shun him. Her son is more important.

Lucas is an adult, a parent, a grandparent, but Harris needs to ask his mommy for permission to seek Lucas's help with a plan to catch the drug dealer????
Exactly what I thought! He must be 45 years old. I felt most of the conversations were useless and way too long. Another thing, why is Alex shooting off his mouth? He's just a bystander here. Theresa finally said she and Brady were Tate's parents and they would make the decisions.

Thanks, DaysLady.

Is it Sunday in Salem? Paulina said the special event was tomorrow and that's on a Monday.

Brady said Belle and Carrie. Wow.

Alex knows Justin well. He knows what we know, that Justin isn't the best lawyer and Alex's friend,
Rodney, must not be either since he couldn't help.

The coughing was overdone with Paulina. Does she want the whole town know she's sick?

Paulina said the pub and Sweet Bits are providing food for the celebration. Are they donating the
food? If the city is paying for it, that would be nepotism since Chanel is Paulina's daughter.

I'm glad Rafe talked to the guards about Tate.

Why the fuss over Lucas being a prison snitch? That’s how he got out of prison when he took the rap for Will after he shot EJ off the altar during one of his marriages to Sami. This time around, Lucas should leap at anything that would somehow help make a fool of DA EJ.

Know-it-all Alex needs a course on the Salem judicial system. There’s nothing Justin could do when there are fools sitting on the bench (e.g., Damon Thorpe). His shark lawyer friend would be powerless in a chaotic system that follows no real legal rules or even basic common sense.

Paulina said the pub and Sweet Bits are providing food for the celebration. Are they donating the
food? If the city is paying for it, that would be nepotism since Chanel is Paulina's daughter.
Ordinarily, this would be true, but when did anyone at the bakery and Pub ever pay for anything?

I wanted to reach through the TV and knock Alex's lights out today. What an entitled and disrespectful twerp. Justin has never been anything but caring and compassionate toward him, even after he found out Alex supposedly isn't his son. There was no need for that confrontation. Both Brady and Theresa should have told him to go pound salt.

I don't even understand what they're doing with Alex. It's pretty awful. I guess Theresa is using him so she's not going to say anything? Where does a guy who's disowned the father he's known his entire life over presumed news about his biology get off acting like he's Tate's dad because he's half dating Tate's mom? It's totally bizarre.

Almost as bizarre as disclosing information about a sting operation to a middle-aged man's mommy because you want her permission. That's a "duh plot requires Kate to know about this, so let's make up a reason for Kate to be told" maneuver if I've ever seen one.

Thanks for the summary. Yes, a lot of bizarre things today indeed, and none of it appealing. I just want the truth to come out for a lot of these stories so we can lay them to rest (ideally in the garbage can, since a lot of them shouldn't have ever been written).
