At the church, Rafe tells Sami a little about his growing up years as Sister Theresa joins them. Sami wants to speak to her in private, but Rafe forbids it.
Marlena is looking for John and meets Kayla at the pub telling her that John has agreed to see Dr. Taylor. They talk about the intruder at Marlena’s apartment and that John almost killed a man. Marlena is sure that Dr. Taylor will be able to help John.
Charlotte explains to John that her dad, Dr. Kenneth Taylor, passed away recently and if he decides on therapy, it will be with her. John wonders why Marlena didn’t know about his death and Charlotte explains that, since he was a private man, there wasn’t even an obituary in the paper. John quips that funerals are overrated and that he had one last year. She apologizes for any confusion but is up to date on his file and wants to get started.
Nicole tries to get EJ to leave the clinic as Dr. Baker comes in. He asks Nicole if he can discuss her condition with EJ and she says he can. EJ is grateful that Nicole is being open and honest with him. Nicole is fidgeting and tells EJ she hates doctors and he replies that at least the pregnancy is going well. Nicole tells him that the pregnancy is far from Okay.
Seeing Steve, John goes over to discuss Mayor Marino’s murder and finds that Steve keeps running into dead ends. John knows that Sami is still a target, wants Steve to keep trying and to keep him posted. Steve wants to know who the woman is with John as he rejoins Charlotte on the park bench.
Sister Theresa leaves and Sami rails at Rafe for not letting her speak to the sister. Sami comments that she is a practicing Catholic, Rafe finds it funny and the arguments begin but he stands firm much to Sami’s dismay. Rafe tells Sister Theresa that it means so much for him to be there.
EJ goes on and on about how he should have been with Nicole instead of going on the trip with Stefano. Nicole seems to want to tell him something but she can’t get a word in and EJ promises never to leave her again. Nicole has a flashback to what happened at the lodge and she says she wishes she had never gone there.
Stefano asks Mary where EJ is and she goes to look for him. EJ tells Nicole he wants to make reservations at the lodge again but she protests and says she doesn’t want to go there again. She mentions how there were going to have such a good time there and now the doctor has banned sex. EJ doesn’t mind waiting.
Dr. Baker is back with Nicole’s file and is ready to tell all to EJ but Nicole says he can’t because she wants another exam before they talk. Feigning self-consciousness, she doesn’t want EJ in the room. Just then, EJ gets a call from Stefano leaving Nicole alone with the doctor who wants to know what’s going on. Nicole opens her coat and shows him the “baby” explaining that she hasn’t told EJ yet about the miscarriage and she doesn’t want the doctor to tell him either.
A man walks into the church and Rafe grabs him, demanding to know who he is. It turns out he is a friend of Sister Theresa and Rafe apologizes as she chastises him for his behavior. Rafe and Sami leave and she takes a flyer on the way out.
EJ tells Stefano he’s busy and they can talk later. Stefano doesn’t like the way EJ answered the phone and insists they talk now. Inside, Nicole begs the doctor to lie for her and he talks about ethics. She goes on about how she has lost her child and, if EJ finds out he will be crushed and she will lose him too but Dr. Baker insists he can’t help her. She blames the loss of the baby on her past and says she can’t forgive herself.
Steve runs into Joe and Kayla at the pub and tells them he just saw John. Meanwhile, Charlotte wants to get on with the business at hand and asks John if he thinks his problems were caused by a lab experiment. He explains that, although he’s not the man he used to be, he doesn’t think there is anything wrong with the way he is now. She doesn’t either.
Back at the safe house, Rafe and Sami are still arguing. She wants to go back and see Sister Theresa but he forbids it and tells her she is never going back to that church.
Marlena, Steve and Kayla talk about their children. Marlena is sad because Eric chose to visit Carrie and her family for the holidays instead of coming to Salem. Steve mentions her divorce and Marlena says John may be more motivated now and just may be getting the help he needs.
Charlotte tells John about others she knows who have the same type of condition as John and says it’s a lost cause if the patient doesn’t want to be helped. She believes in respecting the patient’s wishes and if they don’t want to change, she’s Okay with that.
EJ explains to dear old dad that he’s with Nicole at the clinic; there may be complications and after arguing a bit, he hangs up on Stefano. Seeing that sympathy won’t work with Dr. Baker, Nicole announces that she ran a background check on him and starts talking about his private life and how he has huge money problems. When he accuses her of blackmail, she tells him she can make those debts disappear if he will lie for her. EJ comes in and asks how the baby is.
After a diaper change, Joe is asleep and Steve tells Kayla she is amazing. They lovingly banter back and forth about a basketball game, getting liquored up, candles and Barry White.
Sami says Rafe has to let her go back to the church but he still stands firm. He is tired of Sami’s trying to manipulate him and he imitates her whining as she rants about being tortured. He wants to know why it’s so important that she see Sister Theresa again.
Just as Dr. Baker says the baby is fine, he has to leave for an emergency. Nicole wants to leave and EJ asks her not to hide the truth from him.
John and Charlotte enter the pub and he seems to be in a cheerful mood as the doctor and Marlena introduce themselves to each other. Marlena is surprised that she is Dr. Taylor.
Sami talks about her childhood, Sister Bridget and decorating for Christmas. Rafe insists she still can’t go back to the convent and she calls him a jerk. As he leaves the room, Sami takes out the flyer and says she is going back whether he likes it or not.
EJ says he knows Nicole is more concerned about the baby than he is and she chalks it up to maternal instinct. He talks about how they should be grateful because the baby is healthy and she agrees. As they hug, Nicole looks worried.
Stefano is talking about his heir to a doctor in Zurich and tells him his jet is on its way to bring him to Salem to examine Nicole…the mother of his son’s child.
