How would a theater know you have candy bar or bag of gum drops ?? Do they search your purse or pockets??? Never heard of that rule.....??????
 
Sometimes I've had movie theater employees ask to see inside my purse, although I haven't gone to the actual movies in a few years, so I don't know if places still do that. You can obviously sneak candy/snacks or a drink into the theater in your pockets if it's not noticeable. But if ushers see you eating/drinking food brought in from outside, they can ask you to get rid of it. I think all theaters state no outside food/drinks. Theaters make most of their profits from the concession stands. They make very little on the movie tickets themselves.
 
I've taken water in a theater. I take a different purse and put the water in a plastic bag.
Unless the ushers go through the aisles, no one knows what you have.

You can't take anything in the open. Maybe someone was going to stuff Rachel's
candy in her purse.
 
I still believe Rolf pulled a triple switch and Mickey's out there somewhere.

Outside food or drink can be big trouble for health code violations. Eat before or after the theatre. My local theatre has a fairly nice restaurant inside it with reasonable prices, so I may be biased.
