Jennifer Rose Horton was born during a snow storm in 1976 to Laura & Bill Horton. After her birth her mother's mental state began slowly deteriorating, and in 1979 she put a three year old Jennifer on a bus alone. Jennifer was found soon after, but her mother was put in a sanitarium. (where she would spend the next seventeen years of her life) Bill devoted his life to her after that, and eventually sent her off to boarding school.
Jennifer returned in 1985 now played by Melissa Reeves (then Brennan) and started causing trouble. She had run away from boarding school, and had become a compulsive liar and a rebellious teenager. She eventually ended up being stalked by a rapist, but her brother Mike came to her rescue and helped her straighten out.
By 1986, Jennifer had moved back in with her grandparents Tom & Alice Horton and had completely grown out of her rebel stage. That summer she started a budding romance with her high school classmate, Glenn Gallagher. Jennifer exposed his plan to bust his coach's drug dealing, and found Glenn in the park with his coach holding a gun to his head. She got help from Frankie Brady, the adopted son of Caroline & Shawn Brady. He helped her save Glenn.
Jennifer now experiencing feelings for Frankie, breaks off her relationship with Glenn. They foil a robbery attempt, and helped bust a prostitution ring.
In 1987, Jennifer's father Bill returns to Salem. Feeling guilty for not being there he becomes very strict and tries to control her life. Jennifer backfired by getting engaged to Frankie, but quickly broke it off when she heard about her mother & grandmothers problems fearing she'd pass it on to her children.
Jennifer then begins a slow relationship with Emilio Ramírez, but it ends when Emilio flees town. She met Jack Deveraux we'll helping a pregnant woman find a home for her baby. The two slowly fall in love, and being a deep budding romance, however Emilio returns shortly after. Trying to keep Jennifer away from Emilio, Jack kidnaps Jennifer on her wedding day. Jack pours his heart out to him, and the two reunite.
During a popular storyline in 1990 known as "The Cruise of Deception", Jack saves Jennifer's life and they make love for the first time. Lawrence Alamain arrives in town shortly after, believing Jennifer is his beloved Katerina von Leuschner (Carly Manning) heiress to the von Leuschner fortune. After learning the truth, Lawrence rapes her. Jennifer presses charges and with the help of Kimberly Brady and Jack is able to record him confessing to it. Jennifer learns she is pregnant in 1992.
The following year Abby (Abigail) Deveraux is diagnosed with aplastic anemia, and the cause is revealed to be environmental problems caused by Jack. He leaves town shortly after feeling guilty. Jennifer moves on and begin's dating famous crime lord Stefano DiMera's son, Peter Blake. Culminating with Laura Horton's return to Salem now played by Jaime Lyn Bauer, Jennifer is in search of a man named Clark who turns out to be her ex-husband Jack Deveraux. He immediately dislikes Peter, and knows he is up to no good. Jack shoots and "kills" Peter at there wedding, and is sentenced to life in Prison. Jennifer greets him, and him & Abby go on the run. Jennifer then fakes her death to prove that Peter Blake is still alive. It was revealed that Stefano had indeed switched bodies, and Peter was alive and healthy. Jack, Jennifer, and Abby left for Africa soon after.
In Africa, Jack and Jennifer begin experiencing problems and her & Abby flee for Ireland where she meets her cousin in law, Bo Brady. She later returned to Salem with him. Jack soon returned after to help raise Abby. They remarry much to Abby's delight in 2003, after two previous failed relationships with Colin Murphy & Brandon Walker. Tragedy however strikes when Jack is "killed" by the Salem Stalker. He later turns out alive on the Island of Melaswen with all the other murdered victims. Jennifer meanwhile learns she is pregnant with Jack's baby, but the baby could suffer from serious mental problems. Dr. Lexie Carver (the daughter of Stefano DiMera, and Celeste Perrault) advises her to terminate the pregnancy, Jennifer refused. She began a new life with Patrick Lockhart, until she found out Jack was indeed alive along with all the other victims. Jennifer gives birth on the Island to a healthy baby boy, named Jack Jr.
Upon returning to Salem, Jack felt extremely sick and went to consult his doctors. Lexie told him he only had a short time to live. Marlena & Lexie tried to convince him to tell Jennifer, but he was determined to enjoy the time he had left with his family in peace. Jack fakes his death in a car accident, and leaves town so his family won't have to witness him die. Jennifer & Abby were devastated, and found comfort in Frankie Brady whom Jack had advised to pursue Jennifer. Jennifer, eventually rekindled her romance with Frankie, but Jack returned on her wedding day with his presumed dead brother Steve Johnson. Everybody was stunned by the double resurrections of the Johnson brothers. Jennifer broke things off with Frankie, who understood and left Salem. Jennifer rekindled her relationship with Jack, and left Salem for London in 2006 with Jack Jr. leaving Abby to stay with her Aunt Maggie.
Jennifer returned to Salem briefly in 2010 when she learned her grandmother, Alice Horton had fallen ill. She stayed long enough to be with her in her final days, and attended the memorial service. She returned to London shortly after. However, Melissa Reeves has been put back on contract so fans can expect to see Jennifer back on screen on November 11, 2010.
