How do I send an alert?

If you mean to alert Poirot or Wayne that there is a problem with someone's post that they need to check / handle............in the bottom left hand corner (in a very light gray color) is the person's name and time of post. Directly after the time is the word "Report". Click on that
If you mean one of those little alerts that pop up at the top of your own page to say that someone liked or appreciated your post...........click the heart symbol with the word "Appreciate" at the bottom right hand corner of their post. They will get an "Alert" that you appreciated their post. They will also get one if you send them a private message (now called conversation)..
If someone clicks "Appreciate" on one of your posts or sends you a private message (conversation), you will get the Alert pop up with the number of alerts. Click on the number, and all of the appreciates and message links will appear in a drop down menu.
