What happened to John Black and Marlena?

I just started watching Days after not watching for a few years. I noticed John Black, Marlena, and Sean and Belle aren't around anymore. What happened to them? And where did EJ come from? He wasn't on before either back in 2003 or so.

John & Marlena were written off the show about 18 months ago...They are supposedly in Switzerland where John is undergoing therapy after being paralyzed. Belle & Shawn are taking a round the world cruise on the Fancy Face IV. EJ arrived about 4 years ago, is the son of Susan Banks & Stefano, came on as evil EJ Wells, but later revealed to be a DiMera....was at first a reknown race car driver, but then later an attorney.
