Caroline Brady
Caroline Brady is the widow of Shawn Brady and the mother of Roman Brady, Kimberly Brady Donovan and Kayla Brady Johnson. Another son, Beauregard Aurelius (Bo) Brady was fathered by Victor Kiriakis, a former beau with whom Caroline had an affair when Kayla was a little girl. She is also the mother of adopted sons, Frankie Brady aka Frankie Donner aka François Von Leuschner and Max Brady aka Maxwell Becker. Caroline had kept the secret of Bo’s parentage from everyone, including Victor.
Shawn and Caroline Brady were introduced into the show after the marriage of their son Roman to Dr. Marlena Evans. They were owners of The Brady Junkyard, later The Brady Fish Market and currently The Brady Pub. They resided above the Fish Market where they raised their children and Caroline still lives above the pub.
For many years, Victor wooed Caroline but she was true to Shawn except for the affair with him that produced Bo. She had vowed never to reveal her secret. When Victor saw he couldn’t take Caroline (whom he calls Carolyn) from Shawn, he began showing interest in her daughter, Kimberly, who later had a son, Andrew. Victor, who believed at the time that Andrew belonged to him, fought Kimberly for custody of the boy. An argument ensued between Bo and Victor and as Bo started to shoot Victor, Caroline blurted out that Victor was Bo’s father. In 1986, Caroline also held a gun on Victor and threatened to kill him. Bo made a deal with Victor agreeing that if Victor left his family alone, he would be a son to Victor. Bo recognizes Victor as his father but has always kept the Brady name except for a brief period in the late 1980’s.
Caroline tried to take the blame when Kayla was accused of murdering Marina Toscano but the matter was later resolved when Kayla was found to be innocent of the charges. A loving wife and mother, Caroline always put her children’s needs above her own and often found herself in stressful situations because of them. She suffered a serious heart attack but recovered. The living space about the pub has always been a safe haven and temporary living quarters for family and friends over the years.
Caroline, along with several other Salemites, fell victim to the Salem Stalker and “died” from poisoning while praying at a wake for three other victims. They were all later found alive on an island where André DiMera took them after perpetuating a hoax on all of Salem.
In 2008, Shawn Brady died after giving his oxygen mask to Bo just before the plane they were on crashed. Although mourning her husband deeply, Caroline remained strong for her friends and family. Victor resumed his quest to win Caroline but she continuously spurned him. Caroline knew she could never accept Victor’s way of life. She did, however, become jealous when Victor turned his attentions to the newly-widowed Maggie Simmons Horton in 2010.
For the first time in many years, Caroline’s four natural children were all together and attended the funeral of Alice Grayson Horton in 2010. A grandmother and great-grandmother many times over, Caroline Brady remains a loving, stalwart and valuable member of the Salem community and is fiercely loyal to those she loves.
