Sydney Ann DiMera
Sydney is the daughter of Elvis John (EJ) DiMera and Samantha Gene (Sami) Brady. She was born on January 28, 2009 while her mother was in witness protection after seeing the mayor of Salem murdered.
The day Sydney was born, Nicole Walker DiMera switched the child with the newborn baby of Mia McCormick and Chad Michael Peterson-Woods. The child, Grace, was given to Sami as her own child. For the first year or so of her life, Sydney was raised as the daughter of EJ and Nicole DiMera. When the plot was uncovered, EJ threw both Nicole and Sydney out of his house. Nicole found refuge at the home of Sami Brady whose “daughter,” Grace Rafaela Brady, had recently died from meningitis.
Sydney’s true parentage came to light due to the diligent work of FBI Agent Rafael (Rafe) Hernandez who had become Sami Brady’s lover, after being her guard while in witness protection. Sami was reunited with Sydney but the baby was kidnapped by Nicole that same day., and taken to Cleveland. Realizing her mistake, Nicole decided to take Sydney home but was attacked and the child was once again kidnapped. Nicole eventually went to prison for crimes relating to the switching of the babies and for kidnapping Sydney.
The hunt for Sydney continued for several months before viewers found out that EJ was behind the plot and had hired former sister-in-law Anna Fredericks Brady DiMera to kidnap and care for Sydney. Try as he might, Rafe was unable to find Sydney. One day, EJ walked into the Brady Pub holding the little girl and saying he had “found” her after paying a ranson. EJ became a hero in Sami’s eyes and, once again, she was blinded to EJ’s faults.
The tug of war for Sydney continues. Sami has a court order barring EJ from seeing the little girl because he is under investigation for kidnapping her and keeping her from her mother.
