Will Horton was born Nov. 16, 1995 to Sami Brady and Austin Reed. However, it was later proved Sami had lied about his paternity, that in actuality, his father was Lucas Roberts. Will’s name has changed a few times, to Will Roberts and when Lucas officially changed his last name to Horton, so did Will. When he was little, he was the object of many a custody battle between his parents, and the subject of arguments between his grandmother Kate and his mother.
During the 2006 summer, Will ran away from home, upset and embarrassed when his mother jilted Uncle Austin. He did not want to once again be subjected to the ridicule at school that he endured every time his mom concocted one of her half baked ideas. He went to Chicago, but once he ran out of money, he was forced to return home. The following summer he spends in Switzerland with Uncle Austin & Aunt Carrie. He returns home, his parents are married, he is leading a somewhat normal life…but then his parents’ marriage is annulled, in order for his mother to marry EJ DiMera, which supposedly would end some family feud. He gets in trouble with the police the same night his mother marries, and his father suddenly ships him back to Switzerland to live.
Will returns home 2 years later, surprising his dad (who is in the hospital) when he arrives to visit. He decides to now live with his mom, sister Allie, half brother Johnny, and adopted sister, Grace, at his Grandmother Marlena’s apartment. At school, he became good friends with Mia McCormick, who babysits his baby sister, Grace, at times. Grace falls ill and dies, Will & Mia grow closer, her ex-boyfriend, Chad, eventually enters the picture. She eventually tells Will she had a baby, Chad was the father, she gave it away, and soon it comes out that her baby was Grace…..who had been switched at birth with Sami Brady’s real daughter, Sydney. Will’s mom has, by now, had her marriage to EJ annulled, and is seeing a man named Rafe, who was her body guard for several months in a safe house. Will encourages his mom about Rafe, who stands by the family constantly, especially when Sydney is kidnapped. After her return, Will tires of the arguments with his mother over EJ’s presence in their home, and goes to live with his grandmother Kate. Unfortunately, she is married to Stefano Dimera now, but in a short time, EJ manages to talk Sami into coming to live at the DiMera mansion with all the children.
Mia leaves town, and despite cautious warnings from others , Will now has grown closer to Stefano, who has taken an interest in him,. He is not happy when his mother agrees to marry EJ, but on the evening of the wedding, everyone learns that it was EJ who kidnapped Sydney, and led everyone to believe she was dead for a while. A furious Sami tells EJ off, leaves with all the children & Rafe. Later, Will returned, was alone by the pool, when he spotted his mother leaving the house with a gun in her hand. Later he confronted her, she admitted she shot EJ, and Will decided to protect his mother no matter what, telling no one.
He moves with his mother and siblings into a new loft apt. that Rafe fixed up. After his mother confesses to Rafe, Will agrees that he will keep this secret between the 3 of them.
