JED ALLAN

IN LOVING MEMORY

MARCH 1, 1935-MARCH 9, 2019

(Don Craig, 1971-1985)

Jed Allan's son, Rick Brown, confirmed Jed's passing tonight on a Facebook post: "So sorry to post the very sad news of my fathers passing tonight. He died peacefully and was surrounded by his family and loved so much by us and so many others. Thank you for all who are part of this wonderful tribute to my dad on Facebook."

On "Days", Jed played attorney Don Craig from 1971-1985. Don was Marlena's first love interest in Salem, and the duo married in 1979. They had a son, Don Jr., in 1980, who died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Don was later married to Liz Chandler. In Don's last episode in 1985, he went to mail a letter, never to be seen again.

A full obituary will be posted at a later time.

Considering he hasn't been on the show for almost 35 years, I doubt they'll acknowledge his passing.

Sad news to read this morning.

The actor Jed Allen walked on yesterday. Among his many unforgettable roles was that of CC Capwell, the powerful patriarch around whom the tempests of story swirled in NBC’s daytime drama Santa Barbara for many remarkable years. Jed was a pro’s pro in every sense, and an inspired artist in the moments when the red lights came on — he was fearless, and his work moved millions.

  • I first met him in the early seventies, when his son Mitch Brown and I were cast mates on the TV series, The Cowboys. With his effervescent wife Toby at his side, he quietly asked me to keep a watchful eye out for Mitch, as it was his first gig. Jed was already a star by then, and he was as warm and articulate and charming as anyone I’d ever met. A decade later, when he came to Santa Barbara, the show finally began to find its eventually glorious stride.

  • I LOVED working with him, as did everyone else who got the chance. Years later, he visited me backstage during the difficult run of a play I was doing — offered typically generous support — and then spoke of the loss of Toby, the love of his life, who had passed away shortly before, with literally no warning. (It was hard to imagine a human being missing another more...) In my dream, the two of them are dancing together again tonight — a great comfort to all who’ve known and loved them over the years. Condolences now to their wonderful sons, and gratitude to Jed for his unerring joy in the telling of stories, and for offering always the embrace of his massive heart. #JedAllan#ForceOfNature #TheFamilyYouChoose

Jed Allan R.I.P. I remember him so well. Unforgettable character on Days, as Don Craig. As I look at him in these photos he reminds me of a mixture of John Black and Alex Trebek. He will be missed and my heart goes out to his family and all the fans that loved this man. Days should give a memoriam to this lovely man.

Maybe Marlena could mention hearing from Don's daughter (he had one, didn't he?) that he had passed away.
Yes, his daughter's name was Donna Temple. She was played by Tracey Bregman, who now plays Lauren Fenmore on Y&R.

Old girlfriend, Lorraine Temple was mother of Donna. Yep, she came to town to tell Don of the daughter he never knew he had........

I met Jed Allan (Don Craig) years ago when he was in a parade in Montgomery Alabama. It was in the spring. I asked him for his autograph and told him I would like to take him home for Christmas. He said that was a long time away. I smiled and said yes I know. He smiled back and winked at me. I thought I was going to melt.
