Why is Abby so special?

I do understand what people are saying about Abby apologizing for what she did. My problem is that, sorry is not always enough. Especially when this isn't the first time she has gone after someone else's man. I think making a mistake one time can mean a flaw in thinking, two times to me is a flaw in ones character. And is she really sorry for what she did? Or just sorry that she was caught? I get the feeling that if E.J. were to tell her he wanted to be with her she would jump at the opportunity.

When I said that everyone was defending Abby, I meant more that everyone on the show (not the fans) seemed to be defending her. Let's face it, if it had been Nicole or Theresa who had the affair with E.J. people would probably be cheering Sami on. I guess I would just like to see someone other than Sami tell Little Miss Sunshine that she is wrong and that she has to except the consequences of her actions, something she never did when she did what she did with Austin.

What you said was, " I have been watching everyone on and off the show feel sorry for, and defend, poor Abby." I do agree that "going after someone else's man" could be considered a habit for Abigail. At any rate, I don't condone what Abigail did and I'm all for Sami (hypocrite that she is) blazing her with both barrels.

Firstly, welcome to the board.

Now, I AM a Sami hater. I could tolerate her with Rafe and Lucas, but I've always found the character very immature and childish, and also a judgmental hypocrite. My biggest pet peeve is a hypocrite. I DO think Abby and EJ were very wrong in their affair. It was morally reprehensible. Just as Abby was wrong in deceiving Austin and Carrie, and leading Chad and Cameron on without making a decision. But, those were also very badly written storylines.

Anyway, she has also told everyone who blames it solely on EJ that it wasn't just his fault, she is just as much to blame, and apologizes, even understands Sami hating her. The thing is, as some users here said, people don't expect much from EJ, while they know that while Abby makes mistakes, she is a good person deep down. EJ, on the other hand, always tries to change, but fails and does awful things because he is a terrible person deep down.

People expect so much more from Abby, and since her past wrongdoings were so long ago, they believed that she had grown as a person and never would do something like this--especially not with EJ, the older half-brother of her ex and a DiMera. The other thing: people have never cared for EJ and Sami as a couple, and don't really like them as individuals either (besides their families), so why would they be sympathetic towards Sami? Especially since she knew EXACTLY what kind of man EJ was, and how he (and Sami too) have made so many Salem residents live in misery?

The thing I have a problem with is this: Sami went too far. Calling Abby out at the Horton House in front of her mom and revealing the truth to Ben (and probably others) was enough. But threatening sick children and using her aunt in a scheme to get Abby fired was wrong.

Sami is only going to hurt herself and the people she cares about in the end, especially since, while people are disappointed in Abby, she is not going to be the town pariah. Nobody really cares that much to disown her or yell at her. And who is Sami to judge Abby? She's done the same thing, and FAR worse! She's just angry that everyone was right about EJ all along, and that it is now her on the receiving end of an affair. I say it's karma, and while I enjoy all the drama of this storyline, I don't feel sorry for Sami at all.

boysmommy2 - Welcome. Just curious - what more do you think Abby should do? What more CAN she do considering the rage that is in Sami? Should she wear a scarlet letter on her forehead? Stand in the town square with a sign that reads "I slept with Sami's fiancée"? How about having Sami stand in the square beside her with a sign that reads "I slept with and married him after I knew she slept with him for revenge"?

Abby is not perfect - I'd say she's a disturbed individual when it comes to her relationships with men (but not to the extent Sami is). However, Abby has mostly been kind to and considerate of her family so why wouldn't they stand by her when she's troubled? Conversely, Sami has rarely been kind to or considerate of her family even when they tried in the past to stand by her or help her. Do you think it would be any different if they tried this time? Abby has taken responsibility for her actions; Sami continues to act in a totally irresponsible way and continues to use her children and her family to get her revenge. Which is the better person more deserving of family support?

I see two very different familial relationships between Abby and her family and Sami and hers. Not at all surprised at how this is playing out.

WE don't know that the hospital could have gotten the funding elsewhere. Twenty million is a lot, and Kayla said work was already underway. But I do wish Kayla would have called her bluff anyway. DiMera Enterprises would look ridiculous when the word got out as to the reason for the renege on the promised donation.
That said, we all do have to remember, that although Sami keeps inferring the affair is ongoing, it really ended a long time ago, Abby saying it was wrong, should not have happened, etc. etc. And Sami KNEW about it and went ahead and married EJ anyway.
This is why those she tells, when they learn it all, have more kindly feelings towards Abby. Sami is being vicious, and not just towards Abby. She is gleefully, willfully involving others. And yes, she DID involve sick children, because they would be the ones to suffer without the additional equipment, doctors, etc. at the hospital.

I don't really like all that Sami is doing but she never threatened children. He hospital takes care of them now and would continue. Her younger children don't even know what's going on and Will has chosen to get involved and publicly take on his mother.

I don't agree with Will's actions at all.......she is his Mother and he doesn't have to agree with her, but you don't do what he is doing to your parents......you just DON'T. I know, this is Salem and things don't work the same. At least Sami is a bit entertaining right now and that's what a soap opera is for......entertainment. So much better than watching Dan and Jen Jen, Rafe and Jordan, or JJ and Paige. Or watching Brady get high on drugs and booze, which apparently he will again.

Sami knew about the EJ and Abby affair and married him anyway........well of course she did. That was all part of the plan for Sami and Kate to take over Dimera Enterprises and get their revenge on EJ and Stefano. I can't wait to see how it all plays out.

Hospitals cannot get state of the art equipment, specialist doctors without big time fund raising, and that is what Sami was going to deny. Thus, the children would suffer. Being unable to detect an illness, a problem of any kind puts a child (anyone actually) at a huge risk. No, Sami did not threaten children. She threatened to withhold the money that would enable the hospital to do for children what it is unable to do now.

But this thread is not about Sami, but supposedly about Abby. No, Abby is not special at all. But she has owned up and took responsibility for something she did that was wrong, which is more than I can say for Sami. It is not pinning any roses on Abby, just noting she has responded much differently.

We will just have to agree to disagree about the hospital. Salem hospital should not be expected to be all things to all people, but maybe in Soap Opera land it is. I live close to a medical center that has specialized hospitals for children as well as every other age and illness so although I think a new children's wing would be wonderful for any hospital, it shouldn't be essential.:back:

Guess you are very lucky. I live in small town, America, and have to travel some distance for "specialized" care, or tests. Many sick people here have to be airlifted to hospitals mostly in Minnesota, and folks do have to drive far for specialized tests, etc. Even though the local hospital has been able, over the years, to get a CT scanner, an, MRI machine, and last year, finally, the ability to be able to do dialysis.
Salem is NOT a large metropolis, despite the fact that some corporations have made it their headquarters. This has happened all over the country, one has to only check where they pay their credit card bills, phone, and other items, which seem to go to small towns in various parts of the country.
For Salem Hospital to be able to have something for the children close by would be wonderful. Just ask parents who have to travel from all over the country to Specific Children's hospitals, like St. Jude, or the Children's hospitals in Boston, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Milwaukee.
Shame on Sami for using that particular funding as the blackmail to have Kayla fire Abby. She could easily have gotten Anne to do that, without the threat to withhold the funding.

I do not know how Board of Directors for any corporation operates, but it does seem that the other members of DiMera Enterprises board would not be happy at all to learn of this threat, just to get someone fired.

I will say that Sami did NOT have to take the route she did with Kayla and blackmailing her with the funding. As others have said, she could have simply gone to Anne, who would have been more than glad to go ahead with the hearing and would have reveled in it.

Sami went with Kayla because she knows how much more it will hurt Abigail that her firing is coming from a family member. I also think Sami is enjoying the power trip she's getting with all that Dimera money and power and prestige. It might just be going to her head a little bit.

So, I do view Sami's actions with that as really low and slimy when she didn't have to sink to that level. Acknowledging that doesn't lessen the responsibility of Abigail for her own actions concerning the affair.

And yes, she DID involve sick children,
The word used was "threaten," not "involve." There is a difference. I agree, however, that we don't know the hospital could have gotten the funding elsewhere and stand corrected on that one.

I like everything Sami is doing right now because she will fall that much harder when her vengeance comes back to bite her in her patootie. I want to see that!

If Kayla had agreed right off that Abigail had broken hospital policy and would fire her Sami would NOT have had to blackmail her into doing it. I know Abigail is her niece by marriage but she did something wrong and should have to pay the price for her actions. If it was anyone else that would be the case.

I believe Sami's anger would be slowing down if anyone besides Caroline showed her any concern over what happened instead of mostly supporting Saint Abigail. That's what is also sticking in Sami's mind.

Again, I have not heard on the show, or read here of anyone calling Abby a saint, or anything close to it. In fact, nearly everyone acknowledges and has said, she DID WRONG. And I have neither heard on the show, nor read here of anyone excusing what she did.
