Over the years, there are characters who you never forget for some reason, or odd pairings that made you cringe, while others were just perfect. Who were yours? Who is it that made an unforgettable impression, and how/why. Some of us have watched for much longer than others, makes no difference. And who do you really miss?

Patch is the one I would never forget, he got me started watching Days. The original, of course, Currently there is a watered down version, hardly seen. but the original..........oh, brave, fearless, protective, emotional as he found he had family, and a woman he loved forever.

And then Jack, so lost, raised by a rich man, but never felt love....til he found his brother, and the love of his life, Jen.

Unforgettable character I really miss.........Bart! Oh, Bart was a hoot, so much fun, good heart, and the actor played him to perfection! Steve Blackwood was terrific........oh, the character name was as well, Bart Biederbecke! LOL

Tom and Alice of course -- they were the base, the foundation, the center.
I like Susan Flannery as Laura.
I liked Susan Martin [played by Denise Alexander] I wanted her and Doug to be THE couple. [I didn't like young Julie]
I loved the original Roman and the love story between him and Marlena. Very romantic.
Eugene and Calliope were a hoot.

The show is woefully low on pure fun. I think that’s why I like the Leo character. I think it’s their attempt to have a total comic character like Calliope was in the ‘80s.

I miss Theresa as a character. I liked her and Brady and hate how they ended up apart.

I wish they hadn’t killed Arianna (Gabi and Rafe’s sister). I also liked her with Brady.

I miss Adrienne. Bonnie is not the same.

I miss Valerie as a partner for Abe. I don’t mind Paulina as much as some do, but she and Abe are an absurd couple who have no reason for being in love aside from being older and both black. Their relationship is so forced.

I miss Philip—except for how they turned him obsessive and crazy this last time. I still wish we’d seen a relationship with him and Gabi. That had promise. I want Gabi out of the endless DiMera corporate stupidity. I wish she could just run her own company with Nicole like before.

But overall, I don’t miss specific characters as much as the way they used to balance angst, drama, and terror with fun, love, and adventure. They don’t let couples be happy and have adventures anymore. It’s just get together, create a love triangle, break up or have someone die. Rinse and repeat. Whoever is on the show, I wish they’d have more plot balance and character consistency.

I do miss having a proper regular supporting cast with the Anne Milbauers, Maxines, and Rorys of the world. I’m sure it’s budget. They can’t even keep the main players on consistently, but the show suffers when they use main characters in those roles, often making them act out of character or putting them in scenarios that don’t make sense. I miss having depth in the cast and seeing whole families.

We’re very DiMera, Kiriakis, and even Johnson centered right now. I wish they’d bring back more of the Hortons and Bradys and write them well.

I miss a truly ensemble cast...not like what we now see, with two weeks dominated by a few characters, then the next two weeks dominated totally by another few, and recycle/repeat.

I miss funny and good supporting characters, such as Maxine, Anne, and Rory. Sure sometimes Rory and Anne got annoying, but that's why they're recurring. Now there's no reason given for their absence, which has left a great void.

I miss competent writing...while things weren't very good a decade ago, there was enough good on the show to balance it out. Or at least something interesting instead of endless filler.

I miss pure, good romance, like those of Sami & Rafe and Maggie & Victor. I also miss conniving couples that worked well together, like EJ & Nicole or Kate & Stefano (granted, I enjoy Roman with Kate as well).

I miss the possibility of good romances that just got missed (thinking of Brady with Taylor, Ava with Philip, or Melanie with Nathan).

I think Calliope is my second favorite character.
Speaking of Calliope, back in the 80s, some company did a line of Calliope jewelry that was sold via an ad in Soap Opera Digest. You could also get a Days of Our Lives acrylic jewelry box. I bought several pair of the earrings and the jewelry box, which I still have. (if you bought the jewelry box it came with two pair of earrings and they included an order form to buy additional styles, which were all funky)

I agree with all the above. I also miss core families. Hortons of course and the Brady family, I am really tired of the corporate stuff!!! The hospital was once the hub of the show, now there are one or 2 rooms and a nurses station. If they have budget for all the office personnel, why not have at least 1or 2 doctors?

I will always say that they need more supporting actors. And PLEASE less bad guys.

LESS BAD GUYS should be the chant.....
along with
LESS corporate garbage....
let's get back to hospital being a primary place of intrigue with the garage.... nope wait sorry Jake is dead, Ben is sailing..... maybe the school that Hope fundraised for......the writers have to have school memories..... we don't need students, we can always use the teacher's lounge....

nope wait sorry Jake is dead
Oh, c'mon Robin, they can have Rolf go to the local Salem zoo and take a heart from a baboon or bear and throw it into Jake, or heck, just grow one along with the baby orchid that is undoubtedly going to save Marlena, Kayla and Kate. Bing bang boom, Jake's walking among the living again.

Unforgettable character I really miss.........Bart! Oh, Bart was a hoot, so much fun, good heart, and the actor played him to perfection! Steve Blackwood was terrific........oh, the character name was as well, Bart Biederbecke! LOL
Poirot, I agree about Bart. He was very entertaining and deserved a far better end than to be accidentally run through with a sword during an improbable duel between Andre and Tony.

As for other lesser characters, here are a few favorites.

Dr. Richard Baker the gambling addict and one-time baby-broker, played by the late John Callahan. He really improved the whole Nicole fake-pregnancy plot and the looks he'd give her when saying the whole plan was absurd were priceless.

Dr. Trent Robbins the moral monster played by the late Roscoe Born, who was once married to Nicole. Trent was a thoroughly despicable character, but Roscoe Born did a great job with him. He practically oozed evil from every pore.

Charlie Dale was great as the socially inept intern who worked for Xander when he was Titan CEO. His interactions with Xander while the X-Man was trying to improve Charlie's chances of success with women were entertaining. Unfortunately, the writers ruined him by making him a rapist and then killed him off before he ever had a chance to redeem himself.

Also rating major shout-outs are Rory the lovable stoner who helped the hapless JJ foil Jeannie T.'s plot against him and Anne Milbauer who made an art form of dumping on the annoying, sleeveless Jenny. Why these two were written out is beyond me. Unlike some of the dud Salem newcomers that are now being inflicted on the viewers, Anne and Rory were always worth watching.

Don't know why Days has been playing games with the viewers.......you know, bring back a character/actor we have not seen in ages, pop in, pop out after a couple episodes. Pointless, but guess they are trying to hold on to what audience remains, entice those who left to return with these so called "visits".

NBC did the show dirty when it moved it over to Peacock, hoping to help that struggling venue. So now they have lost 750,000 viewers for Days after switching to Peacock, , put the time slot rating of the old spot Days held at NBC at the bottom of the heap, & lost countless viewers for the shows that followed Days on NBC in the afternoon.

Bet there are meetings galore, & why the cast members have been appearing here and there.

My goodness, Poirot...had no idea they lost that many viewers...that is terrible, especially with a soap that's been struggling to retain viewers for over half a decade at least.
