Days of Our Lives
Wednesday, August 16, 2017

Focus is mostly on the Johnson family today, as Kayla begs and pleads with Joey to stay here with all of us, our family together, Tripp won't say a word, etc. etc. Tripp agrees with this, promises. The scenes are all very emotional. Kayla finally turns to Steve, yelling at him for not saying anything now, for influencing Joey to give himself up. She rants and raves at Steve, until Joey tells her that SHE is the reason he wants to do the right thing, and then asks to speak to her alone, outside.

Eli is talking to Rafe & Hope, who cannot believe what he has told them. Of course, we are not privy, but can guess what is coming. Eli tells them to go arrest someone now. Meanwhile, Abe is leaving money to pay his bill in the square, Valerie comes up. She finished work a few minutes ago. Abe wants to go, she sees he seems upset about something, insists he tell her now, sits down. Finally Abe tells of Theo working for the DiMeras and eliminating evidence. Though, for some reason, Chad confessed anyway. Some chit chat, Hope & Rafe arrive, sorry, but they have to arrest Abe. He gets indignant, Valerie does, too, but they do their job, Abe is put in handcuffs. And of course a few people gather, their phone cameras up, evidently snapping pics. (sorry, but that little scenario looks ridiculous.

Theo & Claire are almost kissing, she pulls away, is sorry, knows Theo just wants to be friends, figures they should not talk about anything going on, should go to the beach, relax, get some sun, have a picnic. She gives him 10 minutes to change. And then, bingo, he is in swim trunks, shirtless of course, she comes out in her bikini with a light coverup, that for some reason she takes off. And now she wants him to put sun tan oil on her back. (LOL, they are still in the apt.) Theo rubs the stuff on her back, constantly muttering "just friends, we are just friends). She is fooling with her phone, gasps, jumps up, saw something on her phone, pretends it is some comment about her music. Theo figures not true, and if she lies he won't be able to trust her, so cannot be friends. She finally shows him, says it is trending anyway, he will probably see it. Pic of Abe being arrested.

At the cop shop, Lani tells JJ about ending the work with FBI, then Raines wanting her to tell him the scoop and refusing, & how she used the "my father the mayor will fire you" card when he threatened to fire her. JJ addressed Raines about it, with Lani protesting he needs to stay out, & Raines telling him none of his business. Eli comes in, tells Raines that while they don't have Dario, he named his partner, and they are about to make the arrest. Yep, someone high up. But...in comes Rafe, Hope, Abe...followed by Val. Lani is beside herself, pokes at Eli a few times, telling him off. Abe is protesting he is innocent, he is the MAYOR (he is being charged with being a party to the counterfeiting). Val is protesting to her son, Eli tells of how Abe paid cash for the jewelry, they checked,. tested. the money, and there is no doubt. Abe is led away.

Back at the Pub, Kayla & Joey sit outside talking, he cannot stand his parents are quarreling because of him, he doesn't want them breaking up, he could not stand it. Kayla insists they will all be fine, if he just stays, puts this all behind them, but then Joey is reminding her of when dad was gone on one of his adventures or something, and they were living upstairs. Gramma Caroline noted money missing from the cash register, was puzzled, and it was him who had been taking it. Kayla took him outside, right on this bench, told him he had to make it right, do the right thing. So he went inside, told Gramma Caroline it was him, spent months bussing tables, washing dishes, etc. to make it up. And Gramma never said thank you to him, when it was over, she only said he always should do the right thing.

Inside, Steve talks with Tripp, asking why he did what he did, Tripp explains about Claire, about apologizing to Kayla, about to give himself up, Kayla said not. Kayla & Joey come in, Kayla has accepted that Joey made his decision. Steve bear hugs his son.

Ron Carlivati said the murder originally wrapped up kind of quickly, but that he rewrote the ending to stretch it out and change the killer. I'm thinking Xander was the original killer and they tweaked it to show Victor talking to Brady about how he had Xander come and kill Deimos, but the plan failed.

And then he dragged out the thing with Dario's accomplice, etc. Just my theory.

Wow, the Joey/Kayla scenes really got to me. Mary Beth Evans [Kayla] delivered a great performance.

Why Hope didn't have a fit about arresting Abe disappointed me.
Because of this, I really wondered if she knew Abe wasn't guilty. I wonder if this whole arrest is staged to rope in the real guilty party.

Say it ain't so, Abe. It was to be expected that the mayor would express righteous indignation after his arrest, but if he thinks he can sue everyone and anybody in law enforcement if he's exonerated, he should guess again. Abe would only have a cause of action if there was no probable cause to arrest him. Here, however, Dario's statements and Abe's possession of large amounts of counterfeit cash establishes probable cause.

Joey should do a little more thinking before turning himself in. Kayla should drag him to state prison for a visit with Vargas who could tell him all the ugly details of Tricky Nicky's incarceration before he got some protection. He might also benefit from talk with Gabi who seems remarkably guilt-free about murdering Nick who was a paragon of virtue compared to the sick, deranged Ava. And if Joey still wants to do the "right thing" and atone for murdering Steve's crazy ex-girl friend, he should be sent to work at the Horton Center with Eric. After a week with the Salem sourpuss, Joey would surely be moaning that he'd been punished enough.

Finally, kudos to the Salem bystanders for actually noticing what was going on around them when Abe was arrested. Town Square bystanders haven't shown this much energy since the Dancing Lady did her thing.

Thanks, Poirot.

It was interesting to see how many people pulled out their phones taking video or
pictures of the arrest.

I didn't realize Valerie was a blabbermouth. She saw Hope and Rafe and
assumed they were there for Theo. Then she told them what Theo did.

The Salem PD has 48 hours to prove Abe did it. Two days in Salem might be
two weeks for us.

I think Abe protested too much. He said he was going to sue everyone there for
false arrest. Then he said slander.

Great stuff with Joey and Kayla today. I wonder what day Joey will turn himself
in. There might not be room for him since Chad, Sonny and Abe are already
in jail.

I wonder what Theo will do? Abe told him he couldn't work for the DiMeras because
of the things they do
and now Abe is arrested.

After Abe laid into Theo about breaking the law and the whole DiMeras are evil, you have to quit and confess, I for one feel it is an obvious sting operation with Abe as the plant.

LOL, Sorry, Dr. Baker, I thought those bystanders looked stupid. Not one moved their phone, clicked or did a thing except hold them up in the same position, not moving.
Sure they looked stupid. They're Salem bystanders who as a group are among the most clueless people on earth. The big difference today was that they actually noticed what was going on. Usually, all hell can be breaking out and they just wander by, blissfully unaware of their surroundings. On a few other subjects:

1) Steve was wrong when he said Joey would get off because he was underage when he killed Ava. He should recall the case of Michael Skakel who allegedly murdered a teen girl at age 15 in 1975 and wasn't arrested until 1990. He was then tried and convicted as an adult. What would save Joey anywhere but Salem is the fact that there's no longer any evidence tying him to Ava's murder -- no fingerprints, DNA, eyewitness testimony, nothing. If he showed up at the police station to confess, Raines would say, "Get lost, kid." and go back to gloating over the arrest of Abe.

2) Imagine if Theo and Claire had actually made it to Salem Lake and Beach. How would they have reacted if somebody had told them they'd placed their blanket at the spot where Willow Stark was killed by a fall while arguing with Nick Fallon.. Would Claire freak out and flee or decide to up her YouTube ratings by writing a song about it -- e.g., "The Ballad of Nick and Willow"?

Thanks for the summary. An episode that tugged at the heartstrings, between the Abe arrest and the Johnson family scenes. I think the episode was good but I'm so disheartened about the turn of events. Really wish Abe didn't have to go through this.

Thanks yet again Poirot for the summary.

I think the scene between Kayla and Joey on the bench was awesome! It is sometimes amazing what our children actually hear and learn from us parents! Don't know what Joey will do, but I'm glad both his parents are supporting him making his own decision!

I agree the whole Abe arrest stuff has to be a ploy to get to the right accomplice. Who is it? Raines is becoming too obvious at this point - hope there is a more clever solution.

I chuckled at Theo saying over and over "just friends..." - such a young guy thing! It looked to me like Claire was enjoying the touch and aware of Theo's mantra. I like them together and hope they SLOWLY regain their relationship...maybe even with honesty and respect?!

I was outraged by her lack of discretion. Moral of the story: If you are guilty of something, discuss it only with one of your non-speaking pets.

Maybe Abe just has an attraction to women who are blabbermouths. Remember how Lexie used to always be giving out patient information when she worked at the hospital?

I have to chuckle at all the differing opinions. I about gagged when Hattie attacked Roman! Lucas is kind of a funny drunk---as long as he isn't related to me! Adrienne was heartbreaking trying to convince that bozo who she really is. I do not like Claire and think Theo deserves better.

I wonder if this whole arrest is staged to rope in the real guilty party.

I think so too. I think Eli and Abe are working together and slowly adding other people to the mix. I think Rafe and Hope are in on it and possibly Lani and Valerie. I still hope the culprit isn't Raines though.

I chuckled at Theo saying over and over "just friends..

That's usually code for they'll be anything but friends shortly. But seriously I think they are headed towards a triangle with Tripp.

If you've ever been in doubt as to why Mary Beth Evans (Kayla) has an Emmy, that doubt should have been erased after watching this.

I finally watched this one and enjoyed it. I couldn't take Abe's arrest too seriously because all those people taking pictures with their cell phones were making me laugh. They looked like a bunch of zombies lurking with phones in hand. Kind of creepy looking in a funny way.

Claire has been a lot nicer lately, which has made her more tolerable for me, but she is still a little manipulator. She knew exactly what she was doing by asking Theo to put the suntan lotion on her, and she was relishing every minute of it. I've a pretty good idea why she wanted him to put it on there instead of waiting until they got to the beach. Her explanation for that made no sense.
