Good morning everyone.

Looks like Muzzaman and I will be in trainings today. Hopefully, his is more interesting than mine.

Reposting the cornbread salad recipe in case anyone is interested. I like it, and I'm a somewhat picky eater.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cornbread salad is easy to make, but takes time. There are some shortcuts you can do if you buy the veggies already cleaned and sliced in the vegetable / salad / deli department of the grocery store. You can also use store bought cornbread instead of baking a pan of it. I used the store bought mini loaves today that I bought at Sam's Club on Saturday. It took 4 mini loaves cut in 1/2 inch cubes for each of mine today so 8 total.

This recipe made 2 containers that are 8 X 4, but you can make it as small or large as you want by adjusting the amounts.

Cornbread Salad

Corn bread cut into 1 inch or 1/2 inch cubes enough to cover the bottom of your dish or container.
1 can pinto beans - drained, rinsed, patted dry
1 can corn - drained, patted dry
2 large bell peppers - seeded, diced
3 medium tomatoes - seeded, diced
1 sweet onion - diced small
2 cups grated cheddar cheese - optional ( I didn't use)
Ranch dressing

Layer the ingredients in the order given.

Spread the Ranch dressing completely over the top layer . If making the Hidden Valley Ranch or the store brand packet, use all the dressing that it makes.

Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.

Morning RS and others yet to join.

RS, have fun on your training too. I think any training where I'm not reading by myself will be welcomed. Haha! And thanks for the cornbread salad recipe. I may need to show Mike this and possibly make this for camping. We were going to make cornbread with sausages in it but may need to rethink that.

Kat, we ate the chicken and vegetables yesterday. Sometimes we get in a cooking mood late in the evening and get many meals prepared so as not to make a mess in the kitchen.

With respects to crossing the border into Canada, this is what I've read on that. Currently it remains closed but there are some exemptions. If it is not essential travel, people will be turned away. If you are an immediate family member and are staying longer than 15 days here, one may be permissible to enter Canada and like Robin said, will need to self isolate for 14 days upon arrival. The loophole to this are people travelling to Alaska from the U.S. or from Alaska to the U.S. and may not stay but must continue through. If people don't, they could be fined under the Quarantine Act and, if repeatedly ignored and someone stays, the penalty could be worse. Recently a man from Alaska was caught vacationing in Banff, was given a fine and had to continue on to the states or go back to Alaska. He ignored this, was escorted out of Banff, he returned, was reported again and now faces jail time and must appear in court in November, I think. Last week another family was fined for violating the terms and conditions of the border closure. All that to say yes, the border remains closed however there are exemptions. With the amount of COVID cases right now, I can't see it opening for tourism or any other non-essential travel on Sept. 23. I think it'll be extended until such time as this begins to level out on both sides.

We currently have fires northwest of Calgary which I believe are now under control. The smoke in the air made for a spectacular sunset last night.

Well, best turn on my computer and get ready for the day. Hope you all had an awesome Labour Day and a better week ahead.

Good morning.
RS ~ your recipe sounds delicious! Unfortunately, the ONLY item in the whole recipe that I can eat is the onion.

Yea, I can't see the border opening any time soon. I cancelled my planned trip in October. I was going to go to Vancouver, but I really don't want to visit any large city while this virus is still on the loose!

Fall is in the air. Cool, foggy mornings with sun in the afternoon.

Wishing all a good day.

We also cancelled our trip to Vancouver at the end of September. One, I don't want my vehicle to be vandalized for having out of province license plates, which has been happening to people from Alberta in B.C. and two, with the daily reporting of cases of COVID on airplanes, domestic and international flights, I think I will wait.

lil0, are you seeing signs of fall in your neck of the woods? Our leaves have been turning fast in this last week and with our daytime high of 10*C (50*F) yesterday, it just accelerated fall. Thursday is supposed to be 27*C (80.6*F). My parents in southern Alberta woke up to just a light dusting of the white stuff on their lawn yesterday morning. All melted by 8am but REALLY???? LOL

Good morning, overcast, very cool here. Heard it was 37 this a.m. but it is 44 now. Yeah, a mite "chilly". Gad, I have to go out to the bank today, and I honestly do NOT want to go! Weird about leaves. Was telling myself it was nice they were staying green so long, and bingo, they were turning. mostly yellow, the oranges and red not yet. Hope the training sessions don't put everyone to sleep, at least others will be involved. Well, have to change batteries in my temp gauges. One half sits outside, the other in, and the inside one tells temp out, temp in, time & day/date. However, batteries for some reason have to be changed in both at same time. It is truly a pain especially, for the inside one, as it can easily change time zones, or whatever& difficult to get things right again. So have to be so careful. Love it when working right. LOL

Good morning everyone. It's a great day. I woke up!

Hope all is well with you.

I am going to the Susquehanna River today. My friend has a cabin there. It's suppose to be beautiful here today.

I live in the beautiful woods of Pennsylvania. Some leaves are falling, but too early for any color yet. Give it a few weeks!

Stay safe everyone and enjoy your day.

PS: What training sessions?

Another summer day. It's sunny with humidity. I went out early and did
some yard stuff. I may work in the flowerbed later in the day when it
gets shady. Cooler weather is going to start later than Wed now.

Muzzaman, thanks for the information about going to Canada. Maybe one day
people will be able to cross the border without all the hassle.

rs, your cornbread recipe reminds me of the one I used to make. It's Mexican salad.
I used lettuce not cornbread. Ranch style beans instead of pinto. I haven't made it
since I got divorced. I hope your training session didn't make fall you asleep. That
would be terrible during a Zoom meeting :)

Lil0, enjoy your fall mornings.

soapkitty enjoy your time by the river.

Poirot, are they letting you inside at your bank? My bank still has the inside closed
except for loan appt and things like that. All deposits are made through the drive
up window.

I hope everyone has a pleasant day.

Nope, no inside at the bank. Drive up window only...Makes for long lines as some folks have several different things to have taken care of. I am told if you call because of needing a face to face conversation, problem they will make an appt. & let you in, but mask & social distancing. I have not done so. One bank opened their lobby a few months ago. Only last 2 or 3 days before they closed it, back to drive up. I was 2nd car in line last week, waited 10 minutes before I got to the window. Car behind me grateful I only took 2 minutes. LOLOL

Good morning. Great to see so many of you here.

Kat, I used to make Mexican Chef Salad, long, long ago, probably similar to yours but not Ranch beans and I used Italian dressing and crushed Doritos but yes, it had lettuce..

Poirot, sometimes I wonder if some of the electronic things are worth the hassle. I'm lost since my weather station quit working but when I try to figure out a new one to buy, they all seem so complicated.

Lil0, funny thing, the ONE thing I'd have to leave out of the salad would be the onion!

Muzz, your border crossing rules sound a bit like what my son's family, in their traveling home, got into when trying to get from Pennsylvania to Vermont. They had to self-quarantine somewhere, I think before they went through New York state.

Squirrel, I hope your training isn't too boring. I'm pretty sure any kind of training would put me to sleep.

Speaking of boring. I got an update on granddaughter with Covid this morning. My son said she's doing better and now she is bored! I told him I'm not going to feel sorry for her because boredom does mean she feels better! Lol.

Soapkitty, in the mid-1970s I lived for three years in a rural area of the northeastern part of Pennsylavania--Wyoming County--near the Susquehanna River. I had never imagined a place so beautiful. Before going there, I'd always thought of PA being coal mines everywhere. I had no idea. It also was the first time I'd been anywhere in the fall to appreciate the colorful leaves, and I had never been around such a big river, throughout the seasons (I had crossed the Mississippi several times), or lived with snow on the ground for the entire winter, which it was, the first year I was there. I marveled at the big chunks of ice that came barrelling down the river in the spring, and the rock cliffs covered with huge icicles during the winter. It was like a whole different world to me. Enjoy your trip to the river.

Poirot, I went to the bank two weeks ago on a Friday. I forgot it was payday. I had to
wait awhile. I took my wipes and cleaned off the tube before I used it. Who knows how
often someone comes out to clean them? One bank in my area opened and that was
a mistake. They were robbed. They showed the man wearing his mask. I don't know if
person was a caught.

OC, I had Fritos in my Mexican salad. I'm glad your granddaughter is feeling better.

Morning...... I hope those of you stuck in trainings have survived the day.......

Not much happening here no leaves changing colors unless you count burnt to a crisp a color.....

Hunny bunny in intrigued by the cornbread salad.... but he wants to use blue cheese salad dressing instead of Ranch.... I will let you know if it works out...

the house in Sacramento has in the front year a Maple tree that goes yellow and an Oak tree that turns red..... if the conditions are correct.... of late with the drought and warmer winters the leaves just turn brown and fall off...... when the trees where new it was fun.... now it is my son's least favorite chore of the winter......he generally has over 20 bags plus he fills the garden bin two times with loose leaves.....

Happy Tuesday pretending to be a Monday....

Finally done with the training, and cleaning up from the breakfast and lunch.

My training involved people from the western end of Pennsylvania (Lake Erie & New York border to the West Virginia & Maryland state lines) who do the same job as me. A grant that our state umbrella organization, which manages our agencies' state contracts, required that we have an in person training on using the equipment purchased with the funds. If not held by October 1st, our agencies would have to pay the money back. There will be three more sessions held in State College , Harrisburg, and Allentown for people in those parts of the state to attend.

My first session this morning was a waste. The rep from the medical equipment company was giving incorrect information about how our devices work. Those of us who have done this job for years kept rolling our eyes. When he said something that would be out and out harmful, I had to speak up. Three of us ended up finishing teaching the session to the newer folks. No way were we letting them leave without being properly trained.

The second session was on changes within the state reporting database that will go into affect on October 1st. This was a more relaxed period led by the contracts manager from Harrisburg, the state capital.

robinsnest - Oh, I bet the salad would be yummy with blue cheese dressing!! Thank HB for thinking of it. I'm going to try it that way next time.

soapkitty - I probably told you this before, but every time we drive along the Susquehanna on the way to Harrisburg, we always yell out "Dip your fanny in the Susquehanny". In one town that was the slogan of an "anything that floats" parade on the water that raised funds for the United Way.

After our cool weekend in the 60s, it is already 86* here. Yikes, I don't like it. I want my fall temps. Especially since the leaves are already changing early.

Afternoon Everyone,

Cold and raining currently. I started my morning at the dentist. I'm happy to report that my new hygienist is amazing, and polished my teeth the old fashioned way rather than the sand blasting my old hygienist did. She even used orange flavored polish, which is my favorite. We had a fairly relaxing long weekend which was a wonderful break compared to our normal hectic schedule.

RS - it's a good thing you and the other experienced staff members were at the morning training so you could help with the teaching. I'd usually rather be taught by those who actually do the work than people who just like to talk about it.

Sorry I can't reply to you all, lots of work to catch up on after the long weekend.

Have a wonderful afternoon/evening

Cornbread...........Fall is coming ya'lls way! And today we're supposed to be under 100F!! After 60 days over 110F and 15 over 115F that is reason to celebrate!!

Happy to read you're all doing as well as possible in this crazy 2020 world. Thinking of you!!!
