Alexandra (Lexie) Brooks Carver
Alexandra (Lexie) Brooks Carver is the daughter of Stefano DiMera and Francesca (Celeste) Perrault aka Frankie Brooks. Celeste, who was unmarried and afraid to let Stefano DiMera know about his daughter, allowed the baby to be adopted by her sister, Grace Brooks. As she grew up, Lexie was very close to her “Aunt” Frankie.
While working at the Salem Police Department, Lexie met and fell in love with Abraham (Abe) Carver. They married in 1989 and lived for several years in Chicago before returning to Salem. By then a police officer, Lexie began to have feelings for Abe’s brother, Jonah, and was later kicked off the police force after helping Jonah in a vigilante effort to clean up the streets of Salem. It is said that Lexie and Jonah’s relationship never went beyond flirtation, but there are differing opinions on the matter. Lexie and Abe smoothed over the rough edges; she decided to change professions and became a resident (and later, a doctor) at Salem University Hospital.
Lexie found out she was adopted and went on a quest to find out about her true parentage. She felt that Celeste knew the truth but Celeste kept giving her false leads. In time, Lexie found out she was the daughter of Stefano DiMera and Celeste Perrault. Lexie gradually became close to both of her parents and later got involved in a scheme with Vivian Alamain to fool Stefano into thinking she (Vivian) was dying. Even though Lexie felt very guilty for her part in the scheme, it was only a foreshadowing of the many unsavory acts Lexie was to perpetrate in the years to come.
The Carvers had tried for many years to have a child but were unsuccessful so they decided to adopt. Stefano arranged for them to adopt the child of Dr. Rolf’s niece, Margo. Abe and Lexie named their son, Isaac, and were very happy with their new life. Unbeknownst to them, Stefano had switched Margo’s baby with the newborn son of Bo and Hope Brady. When Lexie realized the truth, she refused to give up the little boy she had been raising and begged Abe to help her in a cover up. When Abe refused, Lexie fled Salem with the child. Abe had already given custody to Bo and Hope Brady, so when Lexie returned, she had to give up her child. In the meantime, Glen, the real father of Margo’s baby had fought for custody of the child that Bo and Hope were raising, so Lexie was left without a child and was ordered by the court to have no contact with Isaac, now Zack Brady.
In keeping with her wandering eye, Lexie had sex with Abe and Brandon Walker on the same day and eventually discovered she was pregnant. After much wrangling and switching of tests, her baby boy, Theo, was found to belong to Abe after all. Abe forgave her infidelity and they once again became a happy family. Their happiness was short-lived, however, when Abe was murdered on the way to the christening.
In her grief over Abe and the loss of many of her Salem friends and relatives, Lexie turned to a former ISA agent, now Salem police officer, Thomas Edward (TEK) Kramer for comfort and friendship. TEK wanted more but Lexie was unable to commit to him. When she found out that Abe and the others were alive and well, Lexie prepared to welcome her husband home. Abe, however, was having problems with his vision and kept it from Lexie. They grew further and further apart and Abe became impotent. During his bout with blindness and an eventual cornea transplant, Lexie began a full-blown affair with TEK. Abe decided he and Lexie needed to work on their marriage and she was willing to give TEK up. Dr. Alex North threatened to tell Abe about the affair but nothing ever came of it and she thought she was safe. By then, the “Black Glove” was terrorizing some of the Salemites and Lexie was no exception. Abe got a message to go to a certain motel where he found TEK and Lexie in bed together. Abe decided to divorce his cheating wife and take their son. Eventually, they found their way back together and Lexie promised never to cheat on Abe again.
By chance, TEK and Lexie were together the night EJ shot John Black and fled Salem. TEK and Lexie disappeared and Lexie was found in a tunnel months later where she had been taken by André DiMera and held captive. TEK’s whereabouts were never explained. Lexie was finally able to convince Abe she had not resumed her affair with TEK and they reconciled again.
In 2008, Lexie was named Chief of Staff of Salem University Hospital. Again, the Carvers’ marriage was in trouble because of her work load and they sought marriage counseling. About that time, their son, Theo, was diagnosed with autism. In order to see to the special needs of her son, Lexie resigned her position but stayed on at the hospital in her capacity as doctor. That November, Abe was elected mayor of Salem.
Although her mother no longer lives in Salem, Lexie has tried to maintain a relationship with Stefano and her half-brother, EJ, but it is an uphill battle at times. Her beloved half-brother, Tony DiMera, had died from an accidental fall in 2009.
Recently, Lexie and Abe have been talking about having another child.
