Casting call for past character

Yep, definitely a blast from the past...... I think she was gone from the show sometime in the early 1980s. (First I had 1977, but now I'm thinking that's when she broke up with David Banning.)

Why the heck would they dredge up that character again? Will they need another doctor at the hospital by the time the character airs?

For new comers to Days:
David Banning is Julie's son with David Martin. Tom Horton talked her into putting him up for adoption after David Martin died. David Banning and Valerie Grant became a couple after her family took care of him when he was in an accident. Valerie broke off their engagement after David had an affair.

David Banning and Valerie Grant were one of the first inter-racial couples on tv in the mid 1970s. Both actors received death threats.

I read up about the Valerie Grant story line and saw some clips, pretty good stuff. Wonder if the restoration of the Martin house has anything to do with her returning to Salem. They should add David Banning back make them a real couple they weren't really able to be back then because of the racism.

I only read so much, I just was surprised how much things have changed from the 70's to now with tolerance and acceptance. Sonny and Will would've made Days off air around that time, geez.

Tina Andrews, who last appeared as Valerie Grant on Episode # 2948 (7/22/77), would become the "Days" record-breaker for most episodes between appearances if she reprises her role as Valerie. Around 10,000 episodes will have aired since Andrews last appeared.

"Days" is now casting for the role of Valerie Grant, a role previously played by Tina Andrews (left with Richard Guthrie, 1975-1977), Rose Fonseca (center with Richard Guthrie, 1977-1978) and the late Diane Sommerfield (right with James Reynolds, 1981-1982). Julie's son, David Banning, first met Valerie in the fall of 1975. In 1976, the duo became the first interracial couple to share a kiss on a daytime soap, which sadly caused "Days" to receive a lot of negative fan mail on the subject. In 1981, Valerie, now a doctor, briefly returned to Salem and dated Abe Carver (James Reynolds), before leaving Salem for good. The casting call states Valerie will first start taping in May, so look for her to first show up on-air in October or November. Tina Andrews, who played the first Valerie, has tweeted that although she has "not been approached. I would not mind it, though."
 
Maybe she is Lani's mother? Since Lani is leaving the show, perhaps she is killed in the line of duty. (since TPTB like death and violence so much)!! Has it ever been said who her mother is? I don't remember. :confused:
 
Did she used to date Abe? I don't remember much about her. If so, will she date him again?
