John WAS Belle's pop, father, dad....Victor is Claire's great-grandfather, one she rarely sees, not even when she was supposedly living in his house, lol. She talks ABOUT him once in a while, but not TO him.
But then, every family has pet names for various relatives......guess that is hers.
 
When Belle referred to John as "Pop Pop" it was in reference to Claire ("Claire, go sit with Pop Pop") and he asked Belle to just call him John.

Agreed, every family has their own nicknames. Our neighbors' little girls couldn't say Grandma so they call her Gaga, and now all the grandkids use the name.
 
I understand it is a name in that family. I just find it annoying and not particularly endearing to Victor. Never minded Uncle Vic as a name. Maybe it's just that Claire's mannerisms and affectations including wild eyes are so overdone that is one more thing that makes me wish she were gone and now!
