As for gasoline, it's my understanding that the fumes are far more flammable - when you see a gasoline fire, the gas isn't burning (because you can't really set a liquid on fire), it's the vapor on the surface of the gas puddle and the vapor above it. (yes, gas can explode under certain situations where there is spark, vapor, and pressurization)
