Days stars at Hollywood Christmas Parade

And that is how Days of our Lives celebrated their 50th anniversary............ obviously sarcasm here because I don't have very high expectations that a celebration 50 years will be done very well. I can see them bringing back heavy hitters such as Willow Stark, her brother, Dr. Alex North, you know...... the popular characters. LOL!

Here's an optimistic thought......with all the disappointments that the current writers have dished out to the faithful and loyal viewing audience (resulting in ever so many no longer watching) perhaps we are in for a surprise! Something that we will really enjoy. LOL, (and of course the writers didn't realize it would be received well, or they would have discarded it immediately, lol) Yes.....:sarcasm:

Well in all fairness to both sides, this five month in advance shooting schedule is for the birds. It doesn't allow for time to revamp anything. But it would be nice if we were all a little more understanding about that. Just a thought. By the way who came up with that schedule anyway and who has the power to change it?

No one "came up with" that long 5 months ahead taping schedule. Days had their budget severely cut and as a result, they had to get super streamlined with taping episodes. No more rehearsal time, no more multiple takes for mistakes, etc. Over time it went from the usual 4-6 weeks ahead to now 5-6 months ahead.

They can't really change it because it would cost too much money to stop production for 4 months (since they have financial obligations to not only the cast, but the crew, also).

So then it would stand to reason that the writers are working double duty to put out a product within a set amount of time. More often than not, it might not be what they wanted, but their choices were limited, resulting in rushed scripts and a very unhappy fanbase. Must be difficult for them...a lot of pressure. Hmmmm...

The writers seem to be adhering to a usual schedule. Story bibles are always written a year in advance, breakdown and dialogue are then worked on. The thing is, Days films so fast, it went from 6 weeks, to 2 mos, to 3 mos ahead, and then 4 mos. They took a whole month off last July, and take one week off a month, and they still are now 5 mos. ahead, heading for 6 mos ahead. They sometimes film scenes from 3 or 4 shows in one day. Saves on calling the actors back in, etc.
Thus we see a lot of filler scenes, a lot of bad editing as the show tries to patch in scenes into different shows. For instance, Joe Mascola (Stefano) works just one day a month. So.....all the scenes of him on the phone with various people were all filmed in one day, and then shoved into various shows throughout the weeks.
Same thing with a particular set. They will film scenes from several shows while the set is standing so as to save on the expenses of tearing down, setting up again.

The other networks have cancelled soaps, and have reduced cast on the ones remaining. But they certainly have not gone as far as NBC did in their budget slashing.
In addition, the remaining soaps WERE getting some income from running their shows on SoapNet. But that channel went out of business. Thus, more lost income.

I thought he said he comes in up to 2 days per week. I think it was in one of the interviews posted here in the last 2-3 weeks.

No, each script writer is assigned one episode per week to write. There are 6 script writers, so that means they are still on the same schedule, nothing is rushed for them and they still most likely work at the same pace. They still tape the same amount of episodes in a month, around 21 per month, but they do it now in 3 weeks as opposed to 4 weeks. But the writing can be done at anytime they want, even during the dark weeks when the rest of the cast & crew have off. Some of the writers live on the East Coast and rarely even go to the Burbank studio. So, the quicker taping schedule has had no real affect on the writers.

Joe works more than one day a month, yes. But they do probably try to get all his scenes done pretty quickly when he's there, since he's been having trouble with his legs recently. Being that he's alone for most of his scenes, it makes it easier and quicker for him to get his scenes done. The two-way phone call scenes are taped at separate times, so all of his Phone Limbo scenes are taped together. And the people talking to him on the phone will tape their sides of the phone calls earlier or later, sometimes maybe even days before or after.
