I was surprised to see a familiar face pop up in a Buzzfeed article last night. Apparently Freddie Smith (ex-Sonny) has become a real estate agent.

A few people in the comments recognized him from Days:

Did not have Freddie Smith of Days of Our Lives fame giving advice to millennials about homeownership on my bingo card.

Days' loss is real estate's gain.

But never say never. Maybe he will return in the future if Sonny has a new story line and return to Salem.

With all due respect to Zach Tinker, of course!

Both actors were fantastic in the role.

If Sonny ever returns, either actor would be happily welcomed back!

He has said he is not interested in returning at all, loves Florida.

Once upon a time, long ago, TV shows were filmed in multiple cities, in various parts of the country. That eventually ended with most out there in L.A. , a few in NY. Actors wanting to live elsewhere found it frustrating to have to constantly be making trips to the coast, or the big Apple.....when they enjoyed and preferred live in other states, towns, etc. Isn't just actors.

We had a wonderful and accurate weatherman up here (Duluth is where our TV comes from) and he eventually decided he wanted to return and live in his home state of North Carolina, so just up and moved, now is close to his family & is very happy. He fortunately was able to find employment with the TV station & it turned out well for him.

Can't begin to tell you the turnover up in Duluth, not only in weatherpersons, but news anchors as well. LOL. Living on Lake Superior means much colder weather in winter, and a lot cooler in summer. Many are just not looking for that big of a change.

While some characters are just written out, there ARE actors who just want to leave, whether just the area, or acting in itself. And as much as the show might like to get an original actor back, at times it is just beyond their ability.
