Salem needs some new characters! Here are some ideas from me - what are yours?

Jenna Maitland - Sam (Stefan) had a daughter before he came to town. She's roughly Tate/Holly's age. Her dad walked out without explanation; recently she learned it was when he became Stefan O. DiMera. Is she a gold-digger with no heart or a misunderstood teen seeking a real relationship with her father?

Adam Carver - Jonah's son by Wendy Reardon comes to Salem University and initially stays with Paulina and his uncle, Abraham. Paulina clashes with him immediately and he doesn't think she's good enough to replace Lexie. Initially an audience sounding board, he will draw the attention of Holly Jonas. He is pressured into the medical field but his interest lies elsewhere.

Hunter Winningham - Another college freshman, he comes to town from California to study business at Salem University. He lives at the Martin House, next to fellow Californian Jeannie T when she moves out on her own. While innocently eating at Julie's Place, its owner throws him out. Why does Julie hate him? Is he as innocent as he seems? And why did he choose Salem University for his studies?

Xenita Immerdale - Sarah's biological niece comes to town for her "gap year" and to help her sister, Sarah agrees to board the driftless teen. She develops a crush on Tate Black but he rejects her. While working at a café in the Square, she becomes an object of Adam Carver's affection.

There you have it, four characters with just enough connection to Salem to have an older person to talk to, but not so much that they can't freely mix among the young set.

Whom would you create and/or bring back to town to mix with the dreadfully underpopulated Tate/Holly set?

Sebastian and Sabrina Olson, the twin children of Spencer Olson, who is the son of Steven Olson (Julie's full brother/Hope's half-brother).

They come to Salem to attend Salem University. Sebastian wants to follow in Tom Horton's footsteps and become a doctor. He's heard that by attending Salem U, he will be a full-fledged doctor (and specialist in everything) within just a few months. Sabrina's not sure what she wants to do in the future, but is interested in fashion, especially vintage fashion pieces. She stumbled upon old articles about Calliope Jones and her clothing line from back in the day, and was excited to find out Calliope developed her clothing line in Salem, and that the Horton family personally knew her.

Jason Quayle, the great-grandson of Sandy Horton. While he's a legal Horton, Jason was adopted as a newborn, so he has no biological ties to Salem. Or does he?

Gene Bradford, III, grandson of Eugene and Calliope. Turns out Calliope and Eugene had a son, but kept it a secret, to protect him from any DiMera interference in his life. He went on to have his own son, Eugene III, who just goes by Gene. Gene comes to Salem to continue his grandpa's work in time travel, but he also has quite the fashion flair, which catches the eye of Sabrina Olson.

Gabriel Douglas LeClair, grandson of Dougie LeClair, and Vivienne Rebecca LeClair, granddaughter of Dougie LeClair. They are also in the Tate/Holly age group and come to Salem (from France) after finding out that Doug Williams is their biological great-grandfather. They'd like to get to know their American relatives better. Salem, of course, is stupidly stunned to learn Dougie LeClair is Doug's biological son and he kept it quiet for all these years, but they embrace Gabriel and Vivienne with open arms.

SORASED Sydney arrives in town with her attractive, mature teen daughter, Heather. She quickly becomes a homer student at Salem High and begins a relationship with Tater Tot, bringing out the best in him. Brady is thrilled, but Holly is distraught at the loss of the Tot, starts popping pills, and takes up with Salem High’s losers. Nicole is devastated— as usual — as she seeks help from Doc Evans and the former Father Eric. EJ doesn’t like Nic’s strengthened relationship with Eric.

Geoffrey Jennings, Aiden’s younger brother arrives in Salem. A top attorney, he is determined to rehabilitate the family name, which was ruined in Salem by the misadventures of Aiden and Chase. He is quickly running rings around DA EJ as one accused malefactor after another is acquitted. He also makes a fool of Sloan in the courtroom, meaning that prospective clients flock to him instead of the boozy babystealer. This causes a crisis in Eric’s household as Sloan can’t handle losing. Things are no better at the DiMansion especially after Leo writes a column calling EJ Salem’s biggest loser.

Jett Carver returns to Salem and is unimpressed with Uncle Abe’s choice of a spouse, noisy Chanel, and Little Johnny. Paulina panics, afraid that Jett will turn Abe against her. Jett is also unimpressed with Bobby/Everett, calling him a dork a nerd and a loser, and joins with Jada to punish him for his past sins. Jett joins the Salem P.D. and his investigations quickly blow up EJ’s prosecutions, infuriating the faux DA.

Then Heather and Tater Tot are horrified to discover they are related, since Heather's granny Sami and Tater's mother, Jeannie T, are first cousins. :rotfl: Tate then decides to create an app that will help potential hook-ups determine if they share any branches on the family tree. It makes him an instant millionaire. It's called Match-That-Branch. :rotfl:

LOL......this not only made me laugh, but reminded me of something.....Have a huge spread out family on my mother's side in Milwaukee....& they all would show up at the various events, especially weddings. Was around 15 at one wedding, only a distant cousin (16) around my age. Sure the uncles all asked me to dance, but the cousin & I sort of partnered up, danced a lot (no no one but me close to his age). You would not believe all the grins and comments from the aunties & uncles, loving to see us together, and noting time after time, that we should take up with each other, that the relationship was far enough off (3rd or 4th cousins) that it would be o.k. We laughed....... Nope.....he stayed there, I went home to Chicago, lived our lives...he became a psychologist & we both eventually married other people, of course...and were very happy. But those relatives all thought it a great idea. LOLOLOL

Since Jett Carver was mentioned it reminded me that Jeremy Horton could return as well. The last time we saw him was 2007 and in that time he’s cleaned up his act after the failed Touch the Sky airline debacle. He’s been married, has a couple of kids, but just went through a nasty divorce and is coming back to Salem for a fresh start. He calls in some family favors and takes over managing Julie’s Place.

Within a few weeks, the ex comes to town and we find out that Sofia Vitali Horton is a cousin of Ava’s who has moved up in the family business after Ava left and there’s no love loss between them. Sofia has decided that Salem would be a great place to start a new operation for the family. So in addition to causing problems for Jeremy, she’s now stepping on the DiMera and Kiriakis business endeavors.

Around this same time, Noah Reed comes to live at the Pub with Grandpa Roman and Grandma Kate. Carrie and Austin were pushing him to become a scientist because he won a bunch of competitions at his boarding school, but they had a huge fight about it and he decided to take a gap year and visit the rest of the family back in Salem. Of course Roman puts him to work at the Pub, where he starts dating the newest hire, foreign exchange student from Alamainia, Ericka.

We come to find out that the real reason Ericka is in town is to find out more about the man she thinks is her father, Frankie Brady. Apparently, Frankie decided to go back “home” to reconnect with the von Leuschner part of his family since he left them in the 90s. While there, he had a brief fling with Ericka’s mother, but she never told Frankie about it.

This of course means Frankie has to come back to town from very a successful career at his high power firm in DC where this news has rocked his world and shaken up the family he has there. Frankie’s wife, Regina, thinks that Ericka is after the fortune they’ve amassed in their business together and comes with him guns blazing and ready to take the girl out. She’s a high profile lawyer who knows her stuff and you don’t want to mess with her.

Right around the time things start really blowing up, Geoffrey Alamain, son of Nicholas, comes to town to find Ericka and profess his love to her. They were in boarding school together and he’s been secretly keeping in contact with her the whole time she has been in Salem. This causes beef with Noah, who now is smitten with her and wants to move to Alamainia with her.

Now, Carrie, Austin, Nicholas, and Carly all need to make appearances to sort this out. In the meantime, Regina notices Jeremy Horton and sparks start there, along with a now jealous ex Sofia.

JS, the Tot is to be congratulated for untangling Salem’s tangled family trees. It’s a real public service. The last thing we need is Nicole freaking out because she fears Holly has unwittingly entered into an incestuous relationship. That said, the Tot and Heather can relax. They are not first cousins and it is unobjectionable for second cousins or more distantly related persons to marry. And if the Tot becomes wealthy, how long will it be before Chanel and Wendy to rethink their current relationships. (Recall that Chanel “married” Xander because she thought he was rich.)

They probably need Tater Tot's app, Match-That-Branch, since Geoffrey Alamain and Ericka would be cousins, as Frankie Brady is Nicky Alamain's biological uncle. (Carly and Frankie are full brother and sister)

Jeremy Horton could return as well
One of my original pitches (before I decided to go mostly with off-the-path characters) was a college aged kid from Las Vegas who was either Nick Fallon's, Nathan Horton's, or Jeremy Horton's child. Then I looked it up and found out Nathan wasn't on the show anywhere near the other two, and scrapped the idea (and he was going to be the daddy since it would keep the character biologically unrelated to other Salemites). So I scrapped it. I like the idea of either Jeremy or one of his kids returning, though. Kudos for bringing an Alamain back, too. Long overdue!!

Hmm. Nathan could return as well. Kayla announces her retirement and Nathan feels as a Horton he should become chief of staff, but Kayla has already promised it to favorite stepson, Trippy. The 2 go head to head and the hospital board gets involved. (Which reminds me, when is the last time we saw a board meeting there? Weren’t EJ and Kate on the hospital board along with Mr. Burns I think was his name that was part of the Craig Wesley story a couple years ago?).

If Nathan comes to town with a couple of kids, and Jeremy is back with his kids, Sonny and Will could return with Ari, plus Thomas and Charlotte, Jules and Carver, and little Victoria, we’ve just basically brought back the Horton family for another generation. We’re due for a return from JJ and Claire as well. They could come back with Theo after their business in South Africa falls apart for some reason.
