Since the word contenders is plural, couldn't use this great quote from Marlon Brando's On the Waterfront:

"I coulda had class. I coulda been a contender. I coulda been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what I am, let's face it."

That has come up before, (single, plural), & sometimes makes it difficult to think of what to put next in line..........so...........I suggest that if a word can be single or plural, the next word then can be plural or single. So, if a word is single, the following word can be single OR plural:, and same if a word is plural, next word can also be plural...OR single. How does that sound?
