05/12, Monday: 2.0/2,615,000
Nick arrives in the square, having been shot. When Julie asks who did this to him, Nick raises his finger to point at the crowd, which includes Sami, EJ, Rafe, Ben, Abigail, Will, Sonny, Gabi, Kate and Lucas. However, he passes out before he can identify the shooter. Jordan and Rafe tend to Nick until Hope and the paramedics arrive. Lucas and Kate take a shaken up Allie to the pub for the night. Hope and Rafe follow Nick's bloody trail to the park. Sami fears Nick was going to point to her and EJ as the guilty parties. Maggie is horrified by the news, while Ben is very supportive of Abigail.

05/13, Tuesday: 1.8/2,445,000
Daniel's still rocked by the realization that Nicole had proof that could've reinstated Eric as a priest. However, he turns his attention to Jennifer and Maggie to comfort them about Nick. Meanwhile, Nicole is overly defensive with Marlena, who suspects she feels guilty about something. After sharing a nice moment with Eric, Nicole meets up with Daniel to tell him about her engagement - but Daniel has something else he wants to talk about. Sami is so guilt-ridden about Nick that she almost spills to Eric. Marlena comes over, and Sami assures her mom she's fine. While Sami exits the room, Marlena listens to a message from Nick on her speakerphone. Sami returns in time to hear Nick's voice and drops a tray, shattering everything. Theresa learns from Anne that Hope was at the hospital, asking about how Daniel's apartment key might have been copied. Anne totally covered for her friend, so Theresa's home free. After Brady speaks with Maggie, he runs into Theresa, who wants to hang out. Brady declines and tells Theresa since they've been apart, he's been rethinking things. JJ questions Abigail, getting the feeling there's more on her mind than just Nick. JJ and Paige go off to give Jennifer and Abigail some time alone. The teens bond and end up in a kiss.

05/14, Wednesday: 1.8/2,396,000
Jennifer confesses to Eric that she's not totally comfortable with the lie Nicole and Daniel told Eric a while back (about being lovers). Later, they decide to surprise their significant others, knowing Nicole is telling Daniel about her and Eric's engagement. At the same time, Daniel confronts a blindsided Nicole with the truth about what she's been hiding. Aiden offers his support to Hope (and later to Jennifer) as Hope tries to figure out who shot Nick. As Sonny and Will discuss returning the gun to Victor's, and they are almost caught by Gabi. Gabi announces she's canceling the custody hearing. Sonny professes his belief that things will all work out, but then is brought in to be questioned by Hope. Meanwhile, Rafe confronts Will about his fight with Nick. Sami walks in to hear Nick's final voice message on Marlena's phone and is rattled. EJ arrives in time to make sure Sami doesn't give anything away to Marlena. While Marlena takes the message to Hope, EJ and Sami are interrupted by Gabi.

05/15, Thursday: 1.8/2,425,000
Nicole claims to be innocent when Daniel shows her Chyka's reconstructed evidence. But as he presses, Nicole finally breaks down and admits everything - how she found the papers and then shredded them, never breathing a word to Eric. She's grateful when Daniel forgives her - but is then horrified when he insists she tell Eric. Nicole starts to flee - and runs right into arriving Eric and Jennifer. Per Rafe's advice, Will admits to Hope that he threatened to kill Nick. Hope later questions EJ, confronting him with photos of him and Nick. EJ maintains his innocence... and is later followed by a mysterious person. Meanwhile, Will confides in Marlena his feelings about Nick. Earlier, a guilt-ridden Abigail blasts EJ, believing he went too far to keep their affair a secret. She later runs into Ben, who comforts her as she breaks down. He then gently pulls her into a kiss. Earlier, Jordan warns Ben to be careful - a lot of questions will be raised if the police learn about his unregistered gun. Later, she meets up with Rafe.

05/16, Friday: 1.7/2,227,000
Daniel insists Nicole come clean with Eric - and at that moment, Eric arrives with Jennifer. Nicole's on the spot but finally convinces Jennifer and Eric to leave and allow her and Daniel to talk privately. Daniel warns her he's not going to stand by and let Eric remain ignorant of what she's done. Nicole promises she's going to tell Eric... but in her own way. She asks Daniel to hold off telling Jennifer anything until she can do that. Later, Eric shows up at Nicole's place, and she takes a deep breath, knowing it's the moment of truth. Hope sits down with Abigail, who is rattled when Hope brings up Abigail and Nick's fight. Hope's interested to learn that Ben came to Abigail's rescue during another fight with Nick. Later, Abigail apologizes to Ben as she warns he'll probably be questioned soon. Will tells Marlena how angry he was with Nick. Meanwhile, Hope continues her investigation and questions Kate, who's happy to admit she owns a gun and is not at all shy about admitting her dislike for Nick. A seemingly unworried Kate informs Lucas how it went but when she goes home, she discovers her gun is missing. Hope calls Lucas into her office. Earlier, Sami and Lucas worry about Allie's trauma. Concerned, Sami calls Marlena over to talk to her daughter. But Allie, exhausted, quickly falls asleep as Marlena and EJ agree she needs her rest. Later, the hit man spots Sami in the square and follows her to a private location where he confronts her and says she isn't going anywhere. Though totally committed to each other and their love, Will and Sonny each privately suspect the other may have been involved in Nick's shooting.

Thanks….I really don’t know what it’s going to take to bring up the ratings, Will/Sonny wedding didn’t do it, Nick getting shot brought a one day spike, but viewers should want to see new developments on the shooting instead of turning their back on the show! But the constant for the rest of the week was the “golden couple”! They are just saturating the air waves with these two and the viewers are saying “NO”!

deleted post because poster cannot follow board rules, even after repeated warnings....JS

It was one of the worst sweeps period, and this week's ratings showcase it. The only exciting thing that happened this week was Nick dying on Monday with all of the suspects surrounding him, and the ratings show that it was the best day of the week. The rest of the week focused on the aftermath of the shooting, without really moving the story forward, and Daniel and Nicole with the shredded documents, which could have been done in 1 or 2 episodes. Instead, it dragged out all week and still continues to drag on.

The current writers are terrible with the way they drag stories out to the point of no interest. They also brought on two characters almost a year ago which have had no character growth (Theresa) or background (Jordan), and have taken so long to give an explanation for these two that the audience no longer cares for them. These current ratings are showing that the audience is not interested in the stories that the writers are telling. Is it possible with ratings like these, TPTB will consider hiring new writers that will write character driven stories?

Thanks for posting

Looks like another Days sweeps should have been just swept away

At the very least, they need to move stories along quickly.

But I must say how shocked I am on comments at Michael Fairman's soap site regarding the ratings for Days. People keep saying that is is paced right with fresh stories, that the soap is "on fire", the others pale in comparison, etc.

After this sweeps period, I would really hope that the TPTB would take a look at their head writers and get someone else that can really write good storylines. There are plenty of writers left from the cancelled soaps that should fit in nicely.
You hit the nail on the head with this one. There are plenty of characters they can bring back to drive storyline - Anna & Carrie, Belle & Shawn D with Claire, Philip, Chloe, Andrew Donovan, etc. The executives at NBC as well as Sony need to wake up and realize that centering the show around Jennifer/Daniel/Nicole/Eric is simply not working. They can backburner those four for a few months (if not longer) & I wouldn't mind a bit. Removed spoiler info in non-spoiler forum....JS

They need strong characters to take front & center...but given the RIDICULOUS taping schedule (they're what, 5-6 months ahead by now), the Powers that Be need to do something soon & hopefully, they get someone who can salvage what Tomlin has done. My vote would be for Lorraine Broderick - she's on staff & knows the characters fairly well plus, she did a pretty good job with AMC when she wrote (they made her head-writer after it had been cancelled, she didn't "cause" the cancellation" - that was done by executives who thought they knew who/what the viewers wanted to see...sound familiar?).

Oh one can only hope that will happen. We need to get back to the basics of story telling and this 5 month ahead schedule is killing this show too. Mistakes cannot be corrected. Time to bring all the current story lines to some form of conclusion or altleast movement:) Are they waiting until the golden  couple exit the canvas before they start to focus on the rest of the cast? big mistake if that is where the show is going

Let's say that Days DOES get smart, gets rid of the present headwriters. They are filming 5 mos. in advance. This means that July sweeps has already been filmed, and they are beginning to film end of October and November is sweeps month. Scripts are already written for all of November and into December.
What Days really and truly needs to do is to slow down the filming pace, take a 10 day or 2 week hiatus every month, and get back down to filming just 3 months in advance. This pace is ridiculous.

Losing rating points means sponsors pay less money. This means less income for the network. While the fast paced filming is supposedly because of the budget, in the long run, it hurts the show. The network will want to pay less again, the show will have to cut costs AGAIN, etc. etc. Vicious merry go round.
