we would honestly fall for some of the scams that show up in our e-mail boxes. We all have probably gotten the ones that want to give us millions of dollars from some foreign bank, where the owner has died, no relatives, and this bank VP wants to share it with us, just give them our name, address, bank name, numbers, etc. LOL

And then there are those that talk of packages that were unable to be delivered from UPS, or Fed. Express, or our order from a famous company with which we have never have done business, has been returned, or we owe $$$ or something. LOL

Just got, IN the Spectator mail box, an e-mail from "FAX" notifying us we have an incoming fax just received. Mind you, the Spectator has no fax number/machine, etc. But this contained an attachment, which was only 53 pages, in a zip file. I could not stop laughing.
The return addy was a "no reply" one.....(I am guessing they are purporting to be an outfit that will receive your faxes and mail them to you). Honestly, this was sooooo ridiculous.......who would open any attachment from someone or some outfit they don't know?

Well, that's just like the guy who contacted me over Skype that said the machine I was on was infected with a terrible Windows malware and I needed to work with him to fix it.
1 - I was on mobile Skype so, no, not a computer.
2 - It was an Android phone so, no, not a Windows problem either.

I get spam from time to time at work, maybe one or two every other day or something... and some of them are hilarious.

Example...
I received one last week that said that I was small and no good in bed and that's why my wife is going to leave me. But if I just click this link, all my troubles would go away.

A) I'm 99.9 percent sure the link was a virus. (email was deleted anyways, I never click on anything in an email I don't recognize the domain)

B) I'm a woman. And I certainly don't have anything that would be small.

C) What do they know about my bedroom skills? LOL.... Maybe I don't want to know the answer to that one. I'll ask my husband what he thinks.

The ones that worry me the most claim to be from a bank or PayPal. I've had several that say my Paypal account is temporarily limited or on hold or some such problem because of some suspicious activity. They need to verify all the account information to make sure everything is OK. Then, of course, there is a link to click on to provide all the essential info.
Hmmmm. Well, so far my account seems to be working just fine.

Ha! And I just now found out that I can get 50% of the $9,400,000,000 that some dead gold merchant has left to some poor schmuck who can't get access to it without my help. Such a deal!

I worry about my mom. Once or twice she's fallen for the phone calls. If they can make it sound like she'll be in trouble for not doing something, she gets suckered. I tell her every time I hear about a new one, do NOT give out any info ever. Just hang up! Don't politely try to end the call, don't ask for more info, just hang up. She's too nice and too trusting. Fortunately I did not inherit those qualities from her.

I kept getting phone calls once from some septic tank company. Told them I don't have one but they kept saying I need this treatment Ridex type chemical. Then once I said I just shotgun the sewage out in the backyard!! Never got another call.

My spam folder keeps getting messages for me to get in touch with some "hot' girl who wants to cheat!!

The funniest story I've heard about "messing with the telemarketers" is this one:

A salesman had been calling, trying to get an appointment to come into the home for a demonstration for his carpet cleaning product. Here's how the final call went:

Salesman: I'd like to stop by and come inside and show you my carpet cleaning product.
Man: Ya know what? That'd be great!! I have a pretty big blood stain that won't come out. I'd really like you to come over now if you can, it's really a lot of blood and I need it cleaned up as quickly and quietly as possible. Maybe you could park down the street and walk up?

the sales man hung up and never called again.

:rotfl:However, I don't recommend making a salesperson think you're some kind of murderer. (As my husband is a technician for the phone company and has seen some things actually happening- it's crazy out there!.. that's an entire different subject though... basically, they pulled up to fix a man's tv/phone issues. A woman was crying and screaming for help from a downstairs window. My hubby and his friend saw blood spots on carpet and walls- so they told the man they needed to "get their tools" and went back to their van where they called the police.... a month later they were honored to get the chance to install the safe and healthy woman's new tv/phone service in her new home... recently divorced from abusive ex, who thankfully had a tv/phone issue.)

OH, my goodness....see, it happens everywhere. Our local newspaper (and radio) give warnings every now and then because of a few people reporting scam calls. i.e. electric co. threatening to turn off power because of unpaid bill, which must be paid immediately, and they will take credit card. Poirot gets e-mails from "hot" foreign girls who offer to keep me company or chat while naked, too. LOL

Best I heard of someone handling a phone telemarketer, was the guy (he recorded this) who pretended to be a cop, investigating the murder of the owner of the phone, pretending cops were there, and accusing the caller of perhaps being involved, wanting him to come in for questioning. The guy was 6 states away, the "cop" would not let him hang up.....I tell you, it was hilarious. Yes that telemarketer hung up abruptly finally.

The thing is NO COMPANY that is legit will call you with threats or inquiring for info they already have. And yes, I got that PayPal scam e-mail as well. No, they will not do that. But the scammers are relying on scaring someone, heck, one out of a hundred makes their day.

My mom got a virus last year that took pictures with her web cam (we have since bought those slide covers for our computer cams) They said were the FBI ...(yeah right) that her computer was locked because someone had been accessing child porn bestiality and such that she had to pay a fine to get it unlocked. Stupid Scammers.

Census Takers? Haven't filled out or been asked about or filling out one in probably 20 years.

Oh and I get some doozies in my spam and sometimes inbox

I talk to people naked on the phone all the time but never thought of asking them to pay............hmmmmmm........naaaaaah. ...I'd better not quit my day job!!

We've both gotten mails that want to "help us" with a problem... we don't click!

Got a phone call from the IRS saying they had been looking for us (we've lived in the same place for 25 years!) and we were going to be in big trouble if we didn't call a phone number right now!! We had been listening to the message as it was being recorded on the answering machine.... at this time my husband picked up the phone and said @##$$%%^&^&&*. Fill in at your leisure.

JS is it ok to say bovine excrement?

We never called number, but reported it... have heard no more.... spent lots of time laughing and snickering over phone call...... anyone remember Precious Pup from cartoons a while ago?? We were snickering like he did!!

Laughter is good for you and we got a lot of good that day!!!
