2/13/24 - Donuts and National Pancake Day

Wish I had pancakes now! I had a few spoons of cottage cheese. Somehow, not quite the same.

Well, they were right, we are getting the snow, fast and furious. But it is going to move out quickly, they said. Right now, whiteout conditions and 30 degrees. I think everyone in my company will be working from home today, not a day to drive/commute.

Everyone affected by the snowstorm, please be safe! And get some pancakes if you can!

Thankfully, the snow missed us!! So, plans for doc appt still on.

Pancakes do sound good, but the nearest IHOP is 40 miles away. So I had a frozen waffle instead. Oh well.

Wilde Woman, I have family in NY, some on Long Island and some more upstate. I hope everyone in the storm's path is safe and warm.

Good day everyone!

Good morning..... before moving here, we'd drive and visit. On our drive I was always amused by the name of one of the streets we had to turn on Pancake Blvd. We are on Pancake for quite some time. Then I was told by HB about the wonder of Pancake Blvd. Women race down the street flipping pancakes!! Wait What??? Apparently it's a thing.

We are about 2 hours from the town so I won't be seeing this spectacle with my own eyes. At least not this year, maybe next since I now know when it is.

Happy Tuesday to all.....

Snowing here, lightly, but yep.......they say flurries, but it seems to alternate between light and very very light. LOL. Roofs are covered, tho. I should try and get out to the store, only need a couple things, but don't trust weather at all. Changes so suddenly.

Gosh, I'd love some pancakes. We used to have Perkins, but, it closed. Maybe they have frozen pancakes at the store. ??? LOL

Yep Poirot they do have frozen pancakes at grocery stores...... and frozen peanut butter and Jelly sandwiches.....
If I make pancakes I make way to many for the two of us and freeze them... alas I have consumed the last batch and don't have time to make some today maybe tonight......

It's sunny and close to 60 this afternoon. A beautiful day after the snowy one yesterday. I walked later than
usual since it was in the 20s this morning. Except for Sat, temps in the 50s or 60s the next few days.

I washed clothes and worked on my studies this morning. The summary is done and posted. I haven't had
pancakes in a long time.

Wilde Woman, you're finally getting snow. I'm glad you won't have to go out in it.

rf, I hope you enjoyed the Valentine banquet.

Nameless, I'm glad your area missed the snow and you got to your appointment.

robin, thanks for the link about pancake history.

Poirot, I hope you had a safe drive to the store.

Lil0, are the daffodils early this year?

I hope everyone has a pleasant rest of the day.

Sometimes I wonder where people get such ideas for things, such as the pancake race. Clearly, they have a lot more energy than I ever did, to even imagine events like that.

Looks like most of you had enough going to occupy your thoughts today. I enjoyed reading your posts and updates, as always.

I wish I had a Cracker Barrel closer than 70 or so miles. That's where I'd be going for pancakes. I don't allow myself to have them or waffles often because I know I'm going to be "wiped out" after eating them. Leaves me feeling like I've been drugged or have a hangover. But they taste so good!

Once again I didn't get much accomplished. My niece's son came over and spent most of the afternoon with me so it was time well spent. He dug a ditch from where my water from the kitchen sink drains out---to give it a better path to downhill. I had dug up around it last week when it got plugged from grass and roots but it needed to be improved.

There was frost all over everything when I got up this morning but the sun got rid of it pretty quickly. It turned out to be a pretty day so we stood and walked around outside a good bit of the time my g-nephew was here.

Back in the wayback days..... my ex, the boys and I would go to our cabin in Northern California for the 4th of July each year.... for many reasons, the main being the Support your Volunteer Fire Department and EMS pancake breakfast on the 4th..... we would walk the 1/2 mile to the general store to stand in line and get pancakes and chat with our neighbors. It was always a fun time. Pancakes worked a magic on my ex... he would end up running the last part of the trip in an attempt to make it back to the cabin.....didn't matter who made the pancakes, Bisquick, Aunt Jemima, scratch they all had a bowel loosening effect on him.....
The General store has been sold and the people who bought it don't use it as a general store or a post office, they've turned the entire property into a yuppie dream camping spot.... but they still put on the pancake breakfast every 4th.....

Glad you had help OC digging a ditch.... a needed item and a bear to create.......

Tho Small Town America is a wonderful place to live, it does have it's drawbacks. None of those wonderful fast food places. We luck out that mcdonald's stayed, as most come, open up lovely place, which does well during summer, but once the snowbirds leave, and tourists, too....the doors close. KFC, Perkins, Hardee's, A&W, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Wendys.....very short stays. But we luckily still have Subway and Dairy Queen for some reason. Oh, we have "local" places, but when we see ads on TV or you all talk of some item at a fast food place......guarantee you........I do turn jealous. LOL

As Poirot said, small towns do have drawbacks. We also have Dairy Queen and a Subway attached to a Shell gas station. We do have a few decent local places to eat. My area is known for rock climbing but guessing they aren't big fast food eaters. We do, however, have about 2 million dollar stores. Well, that might be a slight exaggeration.

Doc visit was kind of pointless. He is an ear specialist trying to figure out what's going on with my tinnitus. It switched ears on me a few weeks ago and that is rare, like it happens in less than 5% of people. It's really more of an nuisance than a major problem but it does affect the hearing. They don't know what causes it so they don't know what to do for it. He said he could give me steroids but with diabetes, that's not recommended. Another option is an injection in my eardrum. Going to hold off on that as long as possible!!! I go back in 3 months for another hearing test. Hearing aids might be an option at some point. I'm willing to do that if necessary. But I can still hear and they don't hurt so I'm grateful for that.

G'night everyone.

I have hearing aids (very expensive) that I rarely wear. I can hear, but AM hard of hearing. However , really only have a problem when people speak very fast, or suddenly drop their voices as they talk. Like the young priest at church does..lol.
