I guess I didn't mind it because John and Abe are old friends and Val was seeing Marlena both as a co-worker and in a semi-professional capacity. Sure I want Belle back in Salem, too, but I remember how previous writers had treated John and Marlena (trying to boink Kristen to prove she's slimy, anyone?) so I'd rather have them involved in stories the writers want to tell than completely sidelined and off my screen!
